Bottom line here folks is that people (including myself) spent money on backing this game not out of expectation for something wonderful, but because we believed in the developers and game creators. I put my money on the line because I wanted to see how well this extremely ambitious game fared when all was said and done. I don't mind delays at all, I actually feel like I'd rather see a game delayed than released unfinished. Even if it is a flop, I wont regret spending money on this project.

who made put that list on wikipedia it's full of errors xD

But seriously, can someone explain how you can spend thousands dollars on a game that doesn't exist, has been in development for years. You don't even know if it is a decent game or just plain old crap. I've seen and played a lot of space simulator like games and only a few of them were good games, and those weren't the games with the highest development costs for sure.
It's basically like paying for irl tickets to go to space, we'll get to space someday but no one knows when. Still a lot of celebrities are already paying millions of dollars to get to space.

I play a lot of E A games on steam and when people don't like a game they paid $15 on they're already going mental. I hope star citizen will be able to deliver or else a huge shit-storm is coming their way.

The problem is that the question should be more like "How can someone pledge thousands of dollars to a Kickstarter for a game that isn't out." And the short answer is that it comes down to believe in the Devs and desire for it to succeed.

Okay look. The gameplay and trailers etc they've realeased so far. Well... The game looks janky! It looks unfinished painfully so. It's been in development for 3 years with one of the highest budgets ever. It should look better by now!

All transparency, I've not backed this. Neither do I plan to. I plan on picking it up in a steam sale for £5 less than a year after release. Why? Because it's going to flop

Jaw dropping...waste of money. Thousands of actual dollars...I-I-I...Whaaaaaaaaa?! Schadenfreude drew me back from the event horizon of sighs, guffaws, scoffs, and palm faces. I would rather give money to SpaceX so they could build actual space ships to travel through actual space. What the actual fuck?!

I was very skeptical about his project when it began, but got involved the more I watch the development.

The whole scope is large and is coming along; however the game and its creator seems to have developed both a strong following and dedicated detractors; with one extremely vocal guy that I won’t name out of fear he'll come here and try to ruin RT.

Never the less, coming from a person that is interested in the project, CIG, has been very transparent about the progress and outlines current development and future plans; far more than most developers. When the Star Marine model was delayed it was addressed and spoken as to why by Chris Robert personally. Typically developer founders or presidents are not so open unless a release is a catastrophic failure. For any other triple A title they aren't outside of a typical development time, spanning years.

Are criticisms justified? Yes they are. I personally believe that CIG dev teams needs to spend more time finishing the game and less on developing new ships. Or making the "Mile High Club" (an exclusive in game club for backers the spent $10k+ (yes they do exist)), all assets that could be added after release and not pulling resources from core development. CIG really shot themselves in the foot with their initial release window all those years ago. So as the project grew, naturally the time needed did as well. As well as shifting from story based game(SQ42) to Persistent Universe (online) main focus and SQ42 taking a slight step back.

There should not be the two camp system of all for, or all against the game. In the end it’s a game meant to entertain, something nearly anyone can get behind; and should have the to opportunity to succeed or fail on its own merits.

Also I would like to see Gus attempt the Spoole, 1 dollar 1 hour on Star Citizen!

Sounds like they have an awesome development team but poor project management. You have to put limits on your ambitions or you'll never actually release a final product. You can always expand at a later date.

Explain to me how RT sponsorship is any different? From where I'm sitting the only difference is that RT has had 10+ years to establish themselves. Where as CIG is just now getting staff/equipment/procedures in place.

The RT sponsorship sees real benefits, watching some content early, live streams etc. Star Citizen has been a 3 year money drain where the people who originally donated haven't seen any turn around. the game has been delayed repeatedly and as mentioned in the video may be very different from what the original funders supported if it ever gets released.

I backed this on Kickstarter years ago...and gave up on it last year. It just seemed like every month was something new to buy... it was just disheartening. At this point, with all that money. there's probably going to be a lot of 'overrated' comments due to some expectations from the hype, and then those who will love whatever it is since they're into it for so much already. I'll just ignore it until I get my box and come at it as a new game.

    Also...Meg makes Jeremy look tall.

I'm not interesting in SC. It's got way too much hype around it and sure it may have a $100,000,000+ but from what I've seen and heard (let me know if I'm wrong) the buy in for the game isn't small. I don't spend that much on games nowadays (I buy maybe 2 games a month) so I feel like if I have to buy a $100 ship to play I would rather just play ED. Most of the stuff SC has it seems like ED is also going along the lines of the same content but I can actually play ED.

For the price of 45$ you can get a basic game package which includes access to a basic ship, The single player campaign (Squadron 42), and the persistent Universe (Star Citizen). The caveot being you will have to wait a little in order to play all the content.

Oh I see. Well thanks for the info. I didn't know there were cheaper ships like that. I also didn't realize that there is a single player campaign. It still seems like it's going along the lines of any early access games. I was one of those unfortunate saps that bought Stomping Lands and while I have bought early access games since, I am super cautious before buying one. I usually prefer to wait till the game is actually out and with SC I have no idea when that could be. Then again, I could be very ignorant in everything I've said about SC

While I haven't spent as Gus I am a huge fan, hell I'm part of a fan run radio station, so I spend a lot of time centered around this game and I am one of many who really want it and defend it. As a long time fan of RT as well, I always hate when they talk about SC because it always just kinda annoys me. I understand all the criticism around it but still most new articles about SC make it seem like there has been no game made at all, and that always kinda bothers me because I play SC at least once a week. It's probably my fanboy speaking but I just wish people would have the faith the majority of the community does.

@IanMacIntyre The Star Citizen Alpha 2.0 has just been released which introduces the first small sector of the larger universe, in which you can do fps, ship combat, some simple missions etc. This is going to be the test bed in which the rest of the game will be built. Last year the released arena commander and racing, in this you can also fight other people or bots, and racing in multiple arenas. 2.1 is going to release by end of year which revamps the animations, some local physics, and improves; fps, netcode, and player count.

700 dollars in currently, been following for 2 years, the whole development of Star Citizen is a complicated thing to report on if you haven't followed the minute details of the game, that being said I find this hard to watch. The mindset of the more expensive ships is your PLEDGING for a game to be developed and in return you get a ship, once the game goes live you will not be able to buy the ships with money and will use ingame currency. Also some tiny false details in the video....I say this as a huge fan of Roosterteeth.

I don't want to be "That Guy" but just a quick point about the idea that the game continues to get bigger: CIG did put a lid on adding new features some time ago. Any "announced features" lately have just been more details on vague, overarching ideas that had already been decided on.
