Obviously the best place to be a gamer is where you want to be. I like my PS4, you like your Xbox or PC? Good. Have fun. I am and you should too. I have to say the "biggest" games of the year were not ones I played and don't really want to. I don't mind though. If we count new games only, then I praise AC Syndicate and Need for Speed. Purely because I was really looking forward to them and they delivered. Not new, Uncharted Remastered was an amazing experience for me as I hadn't played them. I don't buy many new games a year but in 2016 I'm looking forward to Uncharted 4, Far Cry Primal and eventually getting Rise of the Tomb Raider. Hopefully this year is one for all of us.

SO many games were pushed from holiday or q3 in 2015 to early 2016 so that may be why there is less 'great games" this year.

Now that I own both consoles, I do have to say that I'm a still just a tad biased towards Xbox over PS. I think the multiplayer on it is still arguably better, but the PS4 has made some huge strides to catch up.

The party system is there for both and they work fantastic, but the privacy settings are a little obscure for the PS cause I can't find a way to open or close it. I'm still new to the system so maybe I'll find it someday, but the Xbox party interface is so simple and intuitive and to top it off, easy to access. Not to mention that you can do a party on your computer as well.

I prefer the gamerscore over the trophies still because that's an easier way to quickly compare someone's long term gaming career. While trophies are nice and the harder ones are easier to distinguish, the numerical value makes gamerscore simpler to read when glancing at their profile.

All that being said, the PS4 controller is better and the touchpad (when it's used) is so much cooler than the generic layout of the Xbox One. The gyroscope/motion sensor (whatever it is) is pretty neat too. For some reason, I'm not a fan of the bumpers on the Xbox controller. It doesn't feel right. Maybe I'm just too used to the 360 controller cause I've had that the longest out of any other.

As for the exclusives, I can't say I'm a fan of the PS lineup. I think Uncharted is alright, and PS does get the exclusivity for certain things in Destiny, but I prefer playing on the Xbox when I can and it's hard to argue against Halo. The latest iteration of it has been a little weird, and I have a gripe or two with it, but still a very solid game that I was happy to buy.

In all, I think that the console to own goes against metacritic cause I love my Xbox One. The main reason I got the PS4 was to continue playing Destiny with my one friend cause she's always had PS. But as I've explained to her (she didn't understand why I wanted both), I'm a gamer. I play games. Give me a controller and I'll play whatever is in front of me. Sure I'll have to make some adjustments when dealing with one layout over another, but they're minor cause the main setup is always the same (unless you're talking about Nintendo, they like to think outside the box).

I came here just for the comments. Surprisingly, yet happily, disappointed to not see any console hate.

Having neither, yet wanting both, I've been heavily weighing both. I'd still probably buy an Xbox One, but I'm a fanboy and I love the exclusives! I can admit the PS4 has more great games, but they're just not the ones I really want to play. That said, I'm starting to lean towards PS4 for reasons I can't seem to remember.

As far as the video goes, I'm surprised the Xbox One, PS4, and PC all scored so similarly on average. Fuck the hater fanboys!

Kinda pertinent to the video, is it just me or is anyone else not seeing these "great, explosive" games lined up for 2016 year? The one I'm most excited for is NMS, but that could still flop big time. Maybe they're just not games that interest me, so I haven't really noticed them.

    Annual releases of a franchise.

Too much variety in game types taking away from polishing the base ones. (Cramming everything and the kitchen sink into every title because each worked for other games so now we have to, etc.)

DLC that felt like it should have been in the core game

microtransactions and changing the game to encourage you to purchase.

Basically, AAA studios aren't worried about making perfect games, only about getting something out that we'll buy and how to get us to keep paying to play it.

We could repeat the North American video game crash of 1983 in 2016

    • MacroMac FIRST Member Star(s) Indication of membership status - One star is a FIRST member, two stars is Double Gold

I don't think that's a very realistic possibility. The crash was caused mainly by the overabundance of unique platforms vying for a smaller market relative to what we have today. The way games are developed and produced is also vastly different from the way it was then. There may end up being a kind of depression for some of the biggest game companies at some point in the near future (similar to what happened around 2000 to a lot of the "old guard" companies that had been around since the 80's) but the medium is just a bit to ubiquitous at this point for it to suffer anything quite as bad as that.

Having said all that, I will finish with a message to the big game makers. You do you. Make the big blockbuster AAA titles that you crank out every year or so. Make that dollar, sure, ok. Just don't stop trying to crank out unique and new concepts on the side. If the market gets bogged down with too much of the same safe, money-making, creativity-stunting yearly releases and remakes, you'll just end up like Hollywood. And who wants that?

I think it is beating a dead horse that is reducing the number of great games.

Developers are making the new cod, new AC, new battlefield but very few new games.

I love Jeremy, he's great in almost everything. But reading from a script is not one of them. Maybe it was just this one video, but, for me, it was not good.

Superiority complexes are just a psychological defence mechanism in which feelings of superiority counter or conceal a personal feelings of inferiority. Why are you feeling so inferior, MrDumpty?

Do you guys not know what a joke is? You are so prepared to attack someone that the fact that it's a joke didn't even cross into your mind did it.

I take exception to this, mainly because it feels like two statements that can be taken as being mutually exclusive. My thoughts on the supposed superiority of any particular gaming platform aside, it seems that you are stating that, as head nerd, we are all lesser nerds in your eyes. This troubles me on many levels, due in part to the fact that writing such a comprehensive and, ultimately pointless, reply to a comment on this fabulous site is an incredibly nerdy thing to do.
