Mass Effect Andromeda FIXABLE? What's Bioware Doing About It?

Game News: Mass Effect Andromeda FIXABLE? What's Bioware Doing About It?

Mass Effect Andromeda wasn't even out before it started taking the punches for wonky animations, glitches, and impossibly weird character faces. By the way, none of that stuff is minor in development terms. So is it even fixable? And what's Bioware doing to address the complaints? Can Mass Effect still be saved?

I'm holding out on buying the game until I see a patch.

I'm excited to play this game, but not until it's actually ready to play. I'm sick of the AAA game industry releasing un-finished games.

Massive RPGs always have bugs, and when you consider it's an algorithm using the adjustable face you made and moving dozens of tiny points to lip-sync with audio files in real-time, it's actually kind of amazing it even works at all. No Bioware game has ever had amazing lip-syncing

To be fair, when they don't release games before they're ready, the get death threats for delaying them.....

Gamer3427, that is true, because gamers suck. Dam gamers! They ruined video games!

It took me 10 minutes to make a good female ryder, no problem at all and the faces look fine to me, some of them are a bit stiff and could use some polish but they are fine.  I can't figure out why the hate train is so big on this one.  It's not perfect but It's not bad either. Have people forgotten that in Mass 2, or 3 I can't remember, fem shep looked like she had a log between her legs when she ran.  None of the games have been anything close to perfect so I don't know why people are expecting it here.

I think a lot of it is because people let their nostalgia for the other games make them forget about the imperfections, so when this one came out and it wasn't as perfect as their memories were, they started hating on it. I agree that aside from a bit of stiffness, and occasionally the eyes being a little to "big" looking, the faces aren't really bad at all. My one problem really, aside from a little more polishing needed to the menus, is with the hair and beard options, and just general options, being rather limited in my opinion on the Male Ryder in character creation. Beards in particular have next to no options at all aside from light stubble, and the hair only has one option really for anything even slightly long, and it's not a good option.....

I think the problem is not only the nostalgia, but the synergy of the trilogy. 2's gameplay, 1's atmosphere, 3's story, the scale of the action in the DLC... Together they make a perfect game but each part is flawed, and after 5 years it's hard to admit that. Before this week I hadn't played seriously in maybe a year, but already the games weren't as great as I remembered them. Don't get me wrong. I love all four.

To say it needs to be fixed implies that it's broken. I think because it's been 5 years since the last ME and 2 1/2 since the last Bioware game, people are forgetting they're never graphically caught up with the times. Compare ME1 to Halo 3. They only came out 6 months apart. This game did need a few more months in development, but it doesn't look terrible (frankly it looks beautiful and I can't stop filling my hard drive with screenshots), and it's only a little more glitchy than the other ME games are even now, 5-10 years later. This week I've been playing ME2 and it's very glitchy too, which is just a problem with games this big. It's not a big deal to me personally, and while I get that different things are important to different gamers, If you're looking for good graphics and think graphics ruin a good story, maybe you should shy away from Bioware. That being said, it does need work.

Honestly, the facial animations aren't as bad as people are making it out to be. They're not great, but they're not THAT bad. As for me, I'm 20 hours into the game on PS4, and the only bugs I've encountered at all have been one time when an enemy got stuck in a wall, (which is a pretty common bug in any game), one time where my weapon didn't unfold fully during a cutscene, a couple of camera glitches when talking to NPCs, and one issue with not being able to pick up loot from enemies until I closed the game. Aside from the last one, none were issues at all really.....

While I am loving the game, I do have a bit of issues with the interface and a couple of weapon augments however, as well as the character creator which they did bring up, and which is currently horrible. The main problems with the character creator are really just a flat out lack of options, and what options are there, don't do very much. Particularly though, the hair and beard styles are VERY limited, and most just look horrible. The interface issues though range from tutorial pop ups not staying on screen long enough to show you what you need to know, or items, (mainly crafted ones), not giving enough detail about what they actually do, or being inconsistent in how things are described or shown. The main issue I have with the gun augments is that aside from one or two, the ones that change the weapon's projectile type are completely broken for sniper rifles and only serve as a drastic decrease in damage, up to reducing it by about 2/3 or more for a single shot rifle. There is also one augment that specifically says "charge the shot for a more powerful attack", but has no ability to charge it when using it on any gun. Over all, while the augment system itself is interesting, and does provide additional incentive to craft, it needs some drastic reworking to the functionality of some augments.....

Over all though, I do still enjoy the game quite a bit, and definitely feel it's a worthy entry in the series. I feel like the main problem is that the game was rushed out, and could have used a few more months of polish. From what I recall about a lot of the release info prior to the game coming out, they seemed like they were being pressured to release it sooner, instead of waiting until they were fully finished with everything, which is probably the main reason we have the issues we do. I do recall that at one point, they said that it'd be out in March, but they were willing to push it back a bit if they absolutely had to, which does seem like they knew it still had work to be done, but they were likely being forced by their financial backers, as well as likely fans, to put it out regardless of the state it was in......

@Gamer3427 Just wondering, are you on PS4 Pro or the newer edition? I'm wondering if the glitches are just on launch Xboxes and PS4s and I've had a ton of glitches (Not enough to stop me from loving the game)

@DavidtheWavid I'm on an older PS4 that I've had for about two and a half years at this point. I suppose everyone's experiences are different when it comes down to it. I'm mostly getting at that a lot of the complaints of glitches and odd animations are a little bit overblown.....

Might just be my old gen Xbox then. Not an S or anything. I've had plenty of glitches, but only a few face problems worth noting. (Below) Nothing compares to the time my sister's Shepard loaded without eyelids though. Bioware games are so big they'll always have problems.
