EA and Dice won't do anything about it. They don't care about the fans. Just profits.

I feel like this is in effect a split in markets... I don't understand how it's going to work out (but I suspect there are enough rich, stupid whales to make it work) ... there is going to be a split where a new category of market is going to open up which are just P2W games... and that's just how its going to be - in essence there is already a market something similar to that with FPS games which are dominated by people on PC's with keyboard and mouse, high quality headphones with Temaspeak and very high resolutions and framerates that give those players advantages over people who play on a bog standard PC with the settings turned down so it'll run at a reasonable speed without stutter (or even with stutter) and nothing else running with bog standard headphones or speakers. Those latter players then will miss people coming around a corner or not see them for a few fractions of a second longer and suffer slightly for it, they will miss signals like gunsmoke, muzzle flash, footsteps and co-ordinating with teammates; all of which will make things harder for them - personally I consider those less important since with good strategy and tactics you should only suffer against players very close to you in ability but still it all matters and it's all a matter of money... and it's not like it's any different on console (I'm looking at you Elite controllers and (again) nice sound systems and headsets), never mind the whole different consoles in the same generation thing.

So I'm happy for it to happen, let the stupid fight each other for a slice of their own pie and the rest of us can watch and laugh as they try to outspend each other while we play our own games where skill matters more than real life (often inherited) success.  smile

I don't mind Loot Boxes in games, the problem is having them be able to be bought. I like the feel of seeing what i get at random, but for a person to just buy them is kinda scummy. If Battlefront 2 just had it so you couldn't buy loot boxes I'd be fine. but honestly i don't care, i can get the crates from playing so I'm not stopped from getting them and they don't seem to overpowering when i played in the beta. The main thing though is that it's just a way to pay money to skip content, but I never understood why people buy loot crates, why buy a game to then pay more to skip it's content?

You might want to take a second peek at them. I think the main reason they didn't seem overpowered, is that nobody was able to buy them, so you didn't run into someone with all tier 4. Instead, most people had like 1 or 2 tier or 1 or 2 per character, and that was it.

If you look at the stats, some of them absolutely get very powerful by the top. For example, imagine running into a bomber with +40% health, +100% defensive ability AND -40% primary overheating...compared to your say +10% health and +15% defensive ability.

It gets worse too. Gaining cards in-game is painfully slow in the beta, but it will be WAY worse at live. In the beta, they have it turned up so that Tier 2 is the most common. When that goes to tier 1, OUCH.

Also, there will be substantially more star cards to get. I don't know if existing characters will have more, but at the very least, there will be way more characters: 12 more heroes ( Not sure if hero vehicles are counted in this 14 or are separate. Currently, only Han and Boba have star cards. None of the vehicles did ), more weapons and their mods, cards for the special characters and vehicles. So, it will take way longer to start getting repeats ( this is where you get the crafting materials from ), and you'll be way less likely to get one you want.

As far as the crafting mats: You only get about 1/4 of the value out of repeats. Crafting T1 costs 40 crafting parts, but you only get 10 from a T1 duplicate. It also gets way worse: T4 is 480!!!! I have spent a lot of the past 4 days playing the beta, with the boosted drops, completed all of the challenges, and I still have only ever gotten about 200 crafting mats.

All of this ignores the cosmetics that come in the same system. There are lots of those that aren't in the you'll get way less actually useful stuff as well.

At around 2 hours of for 1 crate, you're looking at MONTHS of hardcore grind just be close to what a rich person is...but he's still noticeably better than you. ( If you look at the cards, tier 3 to 4 usually has the largest increase in power...typically a 10-15% improvement over T3. ) Don't even think about grinding out everything to tier 4. <shiver>

To put some more of this into perspective, I added up all of my cards, of those available. ( Ignoring cosmetics, extra weapons, and weapon mods...this is just star cards. )

      STILL missing: 24

      T1: 12

T2: 19 ( This really shows how they have it turned up for the beta. It's not that I've passed T1 overall, as you can see I'm still missing 24 )

      T3: 2 ( Seriously...imagine when this is T2 )

      T4: 1

If we take a rough standard improvement of 10,15, 20, 30% per tier card, then divide by the total, I have a strength of about 8.2% .... versus a rich kid that would get the full 30%. I tend to sit near the top in most matches, but richie rich would have to be pretty bad to lose to me with that kind of advantage.

I also read that you must keep up with the majority of players or you will be unable to play with the majority of other players even if players your own level are the majority in a match. Albeit, it's from one source who I know personally at this time. If true, it's not just pay-to-win but flat-out pay-to-play.

I think twice about everything these days. All of this is making me feel like rethinking even more times - already pushed over to the non-consuming for this game, but I was hoping for some new hope because Star Wars. It is not happening, yet.

Every single person I know that played it, loved the game itself...and will NOT be buying the game because of this crap. It's a horrendous grind with the boosted beta numbers, and it makes a huge difference. With maxed out cards, someone can turn themselves into a bullet sponge death machine. Richie Rich would have to be downright terrible to not at least compete with the best of the best running 1 or 2 tier 1 or 2 cards. ( The majority of players will get stuck there. )
