Call of Duty Goes... MODERN?

Game News: Call of Duty Goes... MODERN?

This year is all about World War 2, but could Call of Duty be returning to its Modern Warfare/Black Ops era next year with Treyarch? Signs so far point to... likely! Especially thanks to this shiny new job posting for Treyarch.

Infinite Warfare's problem wasn't space, Black Ops 3 was practically in the same future setting they just made an actually good cod that wasn't gimmicky and played off of core cod gameplay instead of being weird and trying too hard to be different. Plus who the fuck decided healthbars were something cod needed lol

COD Black Ops 4 confirmed seems to be the gist of this latest news roundup.  Since Activision wants to milk a franchise like Call of Duty and return to the modern era, this doesn't come as a surprise to me.  I haven't enjoyed a decent shooter from this franchise since the first Modern Warfare installment.  unamused

Strict qualifications for a lead position to milk a yearly cash cow.  Infinite Warfare sucked so much despite Activision swearing they would never take the series into space.

Triple A performers still mess up the formula every now and again.  This a wait and see move, because the November release for COD: World War II is right around the corner.   If that game gets a Game of the Year award from critics I'll scream bloody murder.   We want more content in standalone games not sequels upon sequels, or remastered versions of the classics..   .

More like Black Ops 1.5 since 2 was a slightly more futuristic approach to combat than actual modern technology. But I think that it'll be probably the best one they've had since BlOps 2. I haven't cared for them at all in recent years and BlOps 2 was about where I last liked the setting and tech. And you say that "we" want more content in standalone games, but the few major titles that aren't sequels or remasters tend to flop. About the only one that's done well in recent memory is Horizon Zero Dawn. I can't think of any other game in the last year that's original that's been received well that isn't a sequel or a remaster. Also, game of the year from critics is completely useless. It just means the people who are paid to review a game thought it was a well rounded and polished product. Hardly anyone is critical of a game these days.

I haven't played CoD in a while, but when the hell did they add Freckles? Did Infinite Warfare just go full-on Halo?
