TLDR; If I buy a game for sixty dollars (sorry sixty pounds - you think we get a discount here!?!?) then I WANT it to last a good long while, I don't have that many sixty pounds to hand around to publishers so the game better give me a hell a lot of time playing (and since it's OMP PvP it better have great matchmaking - ha! like anyone is ever gonna figure that out - or keep people at about the same level). I happen to be a completionist but then I also don't have a problem with only playing a few games a year - because I can't afford more and because I don't have time for more (yeah, I'm a big grown up, so what of it, we play games too).

LDR; Okay... I'm sorry but forty hours for one character that is completely OP if you're not fighting others with those types of chars? That's not ridiculous, that's positively minimal.

If the games really takes 4,500-odd hours to 100% completionist complete (which very few people do with any game at all, especially once they have their favourite loadout) then that's pretty much in line with a number of games I play... see Steam tells me this so I know what I'm talking about:

    Flash-style Zombie game: ~1/3 compete - 7 hours, so about 20 to complete - reasonable for a flash-style game

    Flash-style Flying game:~1/3 complete - 10 hours, about 30 hours to complete - a little long for a flash-style game

2D shooter:~1/2 complete - 93 hours, about 200 hours to complete - reasonable if a little light comparing to a sixty dollar game

2D Tactical RPG:~1/3 complete - 135 hours, about 400 hours to complete - maybe a bit grindy for the genre but not bad so far

3D space shooter (PvE & PvP): ~1/2 complete - 550 hours, about 1100 hours to complete - still pretty fresh out of the box with new ideas still showing up and still less grindy than most 3D space games, e.g. EVE, Elite etc. - new updates may add another 500 or so hours of content by the looks of it though.

3D shooter: ~1/2 complete (maybe, might be more like a third) - 1600 hours, that's about 3200 hours to complete - still fresh with new ideas and challenges coming up.

And none of these games cost anything like sixty dollars - not that stopped me enjoying putting huge amounts of time into them (should note that these are all games I've recently played (i.e. last six months) with about half within the last two weeks).

Maybe the problem is that everyone wants to be the hero and EA is telling you, you can't be, and how could every fighter in a war of thousands be a hero? Most of you are just cannon fodder (now there was a great game from the days of yore) and there is nothing that can be done about that because you don't have time or money or passion to be better than that; in other words we can't all be Ray or Alfredo - deal with it and go cry about your "too much gameplay" somewhere where people throw money into bonfires.

grinding characters is not adding gameplay or content. you are still doing the same shit over and over and over again League of legends doesn't have a lot of gameplay nor does overwatch it has replayability but it doesnt have a lot of actual content.

second 4500 hours is absurd thats 5 hours a night 5 days a week for 180 weeks that is a half time job for 3 years a single game shouldn't monopolize that much of someone's just to get access to the content that came with the release of that game not including any later additions to the cast or changes that may occur.

I'm not defending grinding but I've not played the game so I've no idea if it is grindy or simply very replayable... I'm guessing they did at least a little play testing and judged that it was at least partially replayable! Maybe it is LoL or Overwatch like?

How many people have seen all of the content that there is in WoW? Or any other of hundreds of AAA titles that are not intended to be completed to 100% completionist level? I don't get this double standard here... it's okay for some types of game to have a million players but only a dozen or so who have do it all 100% and other genres are required to have games that the majority of it's playerbase complete to 100% - what gives? (And if you're having trouble with a genre that almost no-one completes consider RPGs like Diablo, Morrowwind and Baldur's gate... this genre has so many items and such huge maps (some of them randomly generated) that it is difficult to define what 100% can even realistically mean; never mind the Rogue-likes...

it likely has replayability because it is a multiplayer shooter and those are replayable by their nature. You shouldn't compare something like this to WoW because in many cases WoW is an addiction an escape into a large and fantastic world to ignore real life. shooters arent like that. Shooters are generally designed to be tests of skill and twitch reflexes. The games you are describing as having loads of play time are massive open worlds where people explore. Estimated campaign time for battlefront 2 is 5-8 hours. Basically this game is it's multiplayer.

So you compare it to other multiplayer shooters like say Overwatch 40 dollars for pc version 60 for console with some extra goodies and you get every character that comes on release and then every character that will be released in the future and every map and every game mode. lootboxes are literally just for cosmetic random bs. You also have CS:GO which is dirt cheap(also old) so much so that people cheat because they can buy a new copy for so cheap and lootboxes are cosmetic(fact check me on that im not 100% sure) and you have tf2 which is free and you unlock new weapons that are not that different from each other to the point that i have never really noticed not having one. Let's even compare it to Destiny 2 another multiplayer shooter with microtransactions that is very new and full priced. 60 dollars for a 20 hour campaign access to raid content, pve group play at end game, and 3 kinds of pvp over various maps. micros give bright engrams which give you ships(which you have one at the start of the game for free), speeders(which you get one free at the end of campaign), shaders(which drop like candy and are cosmetic), weapon ornaments(cosmetic adjustments to specific weapons), and weapon mods which are the closest thing to changing gameplay but when you reach endgame the mods you get from micros are irrelevant because you need better ones which can only be gotten from a vendor. The shit battlefront 2 is pulling is so out of line with all other games of its type that it is completely understandable how bullshit people are about it.

why is it so terrible to have to play for some time to unlock something? if thats not the case people will be off the game after to 2 weeks like destiny 2...

It would take 4528 hours to unlock EVERYTHING in the game.

This isn't just people having to grind a little bit of time to unlock something, but a preposterous amount of time to get full access to the game you already paid upwards of $60 for.

is this an issue? yeah sure it is but not as big as people are making it out to be. During my trial time (make to get an extra 9 hours due to a 2nd account) and the recent price slash I was able to unlock Luke, Chewie, and The Emporer. Not to mention had purcased around 4 crates with in game credits before I started saving. So the projected time to earn is a little bloated.

wow, really obvious scam. start with a completely unnacceptable premise, and then "fix" it to sound like the good guy. There's no way they didn't know this would happen.

I'm curious to know if the people who actually bought the characters at the initial prices got any kind of refund. I assume mostly the only people who actually bought them were whales. If they didn't get a refund, then I guess I was wrong, they aren't just trying to cater to whales, they wanna screw them too. Well, that's equality for ya.

From what I hear over on Imgur EA also (quietly) reduced the amount of credits you get for completing the the campaign by 75% as well, from 20,000 to 5,000, and capped how many credits you can earn in a certain amount of time, which has people pissed off all over again. https://www.vg247.com/2017/11/14/star-wars-battlefront-2-has-reduced-the-credits-awarded-for-finishing-the-campaign/

Yeah, I've been seeing stuff about that too. EA has really gone way to far with this game, and in multiple ways, it's really fucked up.

Did they ever give a reasonable answer why they would include something in a game that they figured people would pay to skip? It sounds like they purposely designed an awful game.

it isnt that the game is awful, it's the progression system that is in question. I'm not one for a huge grind wall when it comes to playing my games. The negative consequence that is most likely to come out of all this is that every player will have everything unlocked and max upgraded in less than 2 week's time. This is the problem Destiny 2 is having right now, people consumed the content too fast.

Is the outmoded progression system that puts everything behind a grindwall desirable? No, but it is present in many different popular games. Rainbow 6 Siege is a situation that's either buy operators with real money or grind forever. While the P2W scenario in BF2 has been castrated (it still exists in star cards progression) it is more of a super short shortcut to get star cards as the credits actually earn come quick as well do the crafting parts

The last time I checked the progression system is apart of the game and should effect how people rate the game.
