Game News: Star Wars Battlefront 2 PAY 2 WIN DEFEATED! Or Is It?

EA has made a HUGE change to Star Wars Battlefront II by removing microtransactions... TEMPORARILY. Does this mean they'll be fixed going forward? Is the game worth buying now?

I'm with Jon's expressions as Ashley explains the finer details during the outro.

I'm hoping that Disney managed to find a way to tell EA to cut it out. I get the feeling that Disney hasn't been happy with things EA's doing - such as the loss of the single-player story experience, which is the Star Wars exclusive to EA (as other kinds of Star Wars games can be developed by others outside of EA, but not the single-player story experience). EA essentially had one job and has decided that it's just not going to do it.

Given Kennedy's comments over the years before and after the Disney acquisition, I doubt she'd agree with that decision (especially with the loss of Ragtag - she seemed rather excited by the concept). So, there must be something tying Disney's hands on this. EA is the king of the bad deals - like "Cuphead deal with the Devil" kind of bad deals - though I would pay microtransactions in a game to play as Disney characters beating the snot out of EA executives.

If EA isn't going to do the one thing that's exclusive to them and Disney can't do much about it (as I suspect), Disney's gotten into a bad deal.

Sure, EA brings them money, but Disney's invested in a long-term interest of Star Wars. EA doesn't seem to believe that Star Wars will last beyond their current contract. If EA keeps this up, it might not last. It's in Disney's interest to put a stop to EA's mess. What sells the most about Star Wars are its stories.

They're going to bring it back once everyone has forgotten about it and people can't return it... Also initial purchases are a major part of what their high-level investors look at, so they're trying to keep them appeased.

I'm curious to see how this incident will affect other new games going forward (if at all).

the move is smart... people will buy the game now and EA will just switch the buying of gems back on... nothing will change! don'T buy it until they really really change something drastic

I really don't have that big of a problem with loot boxes but I do have a problem with paying full price for a game with them that contain anything other than cosmetic items. Here's my question for everyone though.  If you're not going to put in the time or the effort to be good at the game, and you're just going to pay your way to the top of the leaderboard, why even play the game in the first place?  What are you getting out of that experience?  The game is no longer about skill at that point but instead who has the bigger pile of disposable income.  Which is fine, I guess, but like I said I'm not paying full price for that experience.  I don't know maybe I'm missing something in all of this.

I don't think you're missing anything. It's just how some people play, but usually they're only on the Fremium phone apps and not in massive AAA console games.

My thought's are this. We know there is going to be DLC, because that's what games do now a days. You can either get away with paid DLC or micro transactions. EA can't keep both without an even more massive shit storm

What I think, to quote Admiral Ackbar: "It's a trap".
