Loot Boxes NEW HERO

Game News: Loot Boxes NEW HERO

Governments and gambling regulators have turned an eye to video games and loot boxes following increasing complaints from players. Once, the video game industry stepped in to regulate itself and keep governments out. Now some insiders are trying to self-regulate to keep governments out of games.

I don't think that any self-regulations would work for this. The ESRB simply rates games and then puts it back into the consumers hands on whether or not they want to purchase it. But if the problem is people becoming addicted to pseudo-gambling of loot boxes, then they aren't in the right minds to make that decision. I seriously doubt that any self-regulating body would actually ban or limit loot boxes the way that a government would, since they would still want to make as much profit as possible while keeping up the appearance that they are the 'good guys'

This announcement should really be reported with a humongous grain of salt.  https://www.forbes.com/sites/erikkain/2017/11/28/the-national-committee-for-games-policy-was-created-by-a-troll/#f3aa7a42521d

Only two public profiles at the NCGP site (as of 6PM US CST 11/28/2017). Only those who allow their membership to be known can be seen.

I would like a bit more transparency than that. I'd like to know who has what stake in the policies that they propose.

It was started as "by invitation only" but they are now accepting requests. I find that curious as that could mean that there is not enough interest among the invited.

We are now allowing applications for membership in addition to our invitations. Send your details to the vice director or general contact to apply.

I think The Know, AH, and RT Games could benefit by having representation on the committee for policies about game news, game showcasing, and game developing and publishing.
