Honestly i am not surprised that loot boxes are kinda in the middle. I get all the rage especially for loot boxes in single player only games. If a game has loot boxes BUT they don't provide any pay to win possibility, and the boxes are still acquirable by just playing, then i am okay with it.  Loot boxes so far are only cosmetic so i don't care if someone decided to drop 100.000.000.000$ into a game just for loot boxes. Doesn't affect me at all. If they want to spend that much on loot boxes then more power to them.

As long as its not pay-to-powerup loot boxes and as long as it doesn't shove the loot box pop-up adds in my face... im also fine with ignoring loot boxes.

Yeah, it kinda doesn't mean as much if all the data comes from big-name titles and known succesfull IPs. There's people like me who'll just buy any new main-line Halo game no matter what because it's Halo. There's lots of people out there who'll do the same for Star Wars, CoD, etc... I'd be more interested in seeing data about new IPs attempting to include them.

Often said, people will still buy it if they have no other options. The problem will arise only after other options are available.

Which is why EA holding all the Star Wars cards... not the Battlefront cards... figurative cards... is going to be a bad thing until other companies will be allowed to distribute Star Wars games.

This is why we have anti-trust laws in the USA - no alternatives means no competition means consumers take only what's given to them, competition means consumers dictate what they get - but as with everything, there are ways to get around anti-trust and exclusivity. Sadly, EA has the megabank of lawyers on their side. Any loopholes to break their effective legal monopoly will be difficult to find and keep.

It not that surprising that popular games are popular. Jim Sterling had a video on it, and cited WCW as a warning. WCW major mistakes came when they were dominating WWF/WWE, and by the time they noticed that their actions were hurting sales it was too late.
