Mass Effect Andromeda ALREADY A MEME

Game News: Mass Effect Andromeda ALREADY A MEME

The trickle of warning about Mass Effect Andromeda is becoming a roar now that the game is out on EA Access to offer a timed demo for subscribers. So much so that it's getting memed all over the place thanks to plastic humans, clunky animations, and a general inability to walk (which we still think could be caused by cryosleep... WE JUST WANT IT TO BE GOOD, OK?).

To me it feels like people are searching for a reason to be upset, for after five hours it is noticeable, but no different then any prior BioWare game and complaining about how other developers are doing things gives us wonderful game things like Dragon Age: Inquisition and its Skyrim like side quests.

Eh, I'm not playing BioWare games anymore because of the people who work there.  There are some very not nice folks who are very openly not nice folks employed by BioWare, and *I* make the choice where to spend *my* money.  I'm not going to lead a crusade against the company, but I'm not having to search for a reason to be upset by what has become of what used to be my second favorite studio.

@Oregonaut ONE not very nice person who I believe was fired for those comments.

Bad animations and tons of exposition? It almost sounds like a Bioware game.

I've been playing DA: I to ramp up for ME: A and yeah it's a Bioware game. Varric's face looks like plastic and Cassandra walks like she is wearing a chain mail thong.

@peckpogydah Honestly, after 8 hours in Andromeda, I see where the complaints are coming from. Don't get me wrong, I love it, but Inquisition, which is now 2 1/2 years old, looks better. In terms of realism, at least.

Edit: That was like 7 commas in one sentence.

@DavidtheWavid That's unfortunate. I was right there with Ashley hoping it was people overreacting. I'll be finding out for myself after work.

@peckpogydah NONONO It's a good game and the stylistic choices make up for it. You'll get used to the weird face animations. Just as enjoyable as the OT except some of the sidequests can be frustrating to find.

I just came off about 3 hours right now and yeah i am with the memes. The characters look downright scary. I spent a good 20 minutes trying to create a char that didnt look dead on the inside. I am legitimately shocked that they have arguably worse facial animations than a game from 2007. I used to complain that ME1 had bad animation but andromeda takes the cake. BUT all that aside i am definitely enjoying the game. Its probably just because im a huge ME fan but i find the game fun and the story compelling.

I'm still holding out hope for the game. Graphics and visuals have never been a big deal for me. Yes I like for stuff to look pretty and will point it out when a game does, but I also don't get upset about it when games don't look pretty or have visual glitches which is almost certainly the case with some of the walking animations at times. Honestly, it's pretty rare these days to not have some sort of visual weirdness in a game at it's release. As for the other complaints such as too much exposition and possibly clunky menus, that's just a part of RPGs in general. We saw it less and less as the original trilogy moved away from those RPG elements pretty heavily, (particularly with inventory and menus), but from what I've heard about this one it's diving head first back into that, as well as being more of an open universe type situation, and not pinning you down to specific items and powers based on class like most RPGs do. So of course, there's going to be a whole lot of stuff to deal with in the menu, but I'd rather have that than most RPGs that limit you to only using certain weapons based on your class, or give you a linear skill tree to work through. The exposition all being near the beginning also makes a lot of sense to me, since the game is meant to be pretty "go where you want, when you want" sort of thing, and that could make for very distant instances of learning what you need to know about the universe if it's not given to you at the beginning......

Do I think the game will be perfect? Of course not. No game is and they all have their flaws. Do I think it'll still be a good game and I'll enjoy it? Definitely. Mass Effect fits a very niche section in gaming in my opinion, and it's hard to find other ones that come close to filling that need. Unless they made it completely unlike a Mass Effect game, then I'm sure the good will outweigh the bad.....

I'm enjoying what the game wants to be but yeah the clunky plastic characters feel like a WWE game animation. I have faith they'll get it worked out for the next game otherwise I'm here for the story and gameplay and those are really good so far.

Memes and bad animation is just that. Not a deal breaker, but I haven't got my hands on it yet. However I will as soon as it's available.

I'm glad to know I've not just gone crazy. Downloaded the trial around midnight yesterday and immediately took issue with the facial animations. No joke, RT's animators could've done a better job. I know BioWare could afford to put a mirror in front of their animators so they could maybe learn that more than the mouth moves in conversation... Still fun though, I enjoyed it, but gonna get Nier and Horizon first I think.
