KOTOR Getting a REBOOT? New Leak!

Game News: KOTOR Getting a REBOOT? New Leak!

Knights of the Old Republic is one of the franchises that put Bioware on the map. Now EA's got the Star Wars license for video games and a new leak says Bioware is hard at work on a KOTOR reboot for the new canon.

    I thought that BWATX was BW's MMO-focused branch. Is it possible that this is just another SWTOR expansion? Drew has worked on SWTOR expansions already.

    Remaster sounds nice. A new KOTOR game made by Bioware, unfortunately, does not.

    I'd love to see a KotOR-style game, but I'd hate to see it being just another remakening.

    I hope Disney let's kotor be canon, it was my first actual foray into rpgs, and the first game I completed. Also the lore that was with the game was really good imo

    I was thinking recently that I would go back to play kotor again. I'd be down for this myself.

    I would pay so much money to see this happen.  The KotOR games were what hooked me on RPG's so I would love to see some sort of reboot of the series or even a third game in the franchise (even though I know the chances of that are basically zero, lol.)

    This may get a bit long winded and may contain SPOILERS to various Star Wars content.

    I personally love the prospect of them making a new KOTOR up to the new canon because there's a massive debate in many fan communities over just how not canon KOTOR actually is.

    While it is true that everything in the Expanded Universe was made not canon, with KOTOR falling in line, it is NOT true that everything but the movies was rendered Legends as the TV shows - Star Wars: Clone Wars and its sequel series, Star Wars Rebels - are still canon. In these shows, we got to see various things that were once only in the Expanded Universe, such as Darth Bane, Darth Maul's survival, Grand Admiral Thrawn, Bendu, and the entire planet of Mandalore.

    The list goes on.

    Though Disney's Lucasfilm have repeated gone through Legends to make things canon in the new lore, an example being the Kyber Crystals (the source of power behind light-sabers, the Death Star, and its spiritual successors) repeatedly mentioned in Rogue One, it isn't impossible for even the smallest of things to make it through. Since these shows are canon, a lot of the fandom have, unfortunately, taken the habit of assuming entire sections of Legends are canon simply because a piece is mentioned. An example of this is Darth Bane being canon, who created the Rule of Two system that Palpatine and Vader are apart of. Because of Bane's appearance, people believe ALL of the Sith Lords from the Rule of Two are canon in their entirety, such as Darth Plagueis being a Muun, which isn't exactly specified in anything canon.

    Why I mentioned all this in conjunction with KOTOR is because there are strong speculations and hints about KOTOR in the season two finale of Star Wars Rebels where a Sith Holocron is being sought after on the Ancient Sith world of Malachor by the cast. The Holocron speaks in the voice of Darth Traya, or at least the same voice actress, who was the Master of Revan - the main character of the first game to any who don't know or did not remember.

    So, that brings a rise to the question, is KOTOR already canon, and if not, just how much of it is or isn't?

    Regardless of my needless post, I still would love to see KOTOR brought out of Legends in a REBOOT, I just hope that it isn't an exclusive (unless it's Xbox - Hey, I'm not perfectly unbiased) or a cash grab from EA.

    I love those two games with all my heart, but I hope it's more either an exact remake with every conversation and location identical, or a spiritual successor in the same timeframe with a completely different story (Snoke and Maz Kanata maybe?), rather than retconning the first two games. But it's probably just another TOR expansion.

    KOTOR remake or reboot is a smart idea, can get all that fan money. I have the first one on steam it's not a good game. I wont play the sequel and after Fallout 4 I mean Mass Effect Andromeda, I'm not really interested in any game BioWare is making. They would have to impress me quite a bit with what ever they are making next. A new IP would be at lest be worth a look or Jade empire 2.( I'd buy that game) It is just a rumor so maybe there is a new hope.

      Did you really not like it? I've genuinely never met a person who didn't enjoy it, even friends who aren't gamers (as long as they got help with the combat).

      What's wrong with the game?! What could you possibly have against it?

      I gave it a good go, 5 to 10 hours. I only made it to the under city. Just couldn't get into it. It might be because i played it well after the sequel was out, I all ways heard it was good and going in with that expectation was NOT a good idea. If i played it when it first came out i might have a different opinion on it. I hear the sequel is much better but why play that and not the first one. I am glad they made it and people liked it so much because it lead to Jade Empire and Dragon Age Origins! I wont hate on it, but i wont say it's good ether.

      @subliminalrecords1

      As someone who's played KotOR an embarrassing amount of times I will say that the game gets infinitely better after Taris.  The first 6 hours or so of the game are a bit of a slog (especially if you haven't played the game before and don't know exactly what to do or have the nostalgia factor associated with it) but after that it really kicks into high gear.  Not trying to tell you what to do but I'd look up a walkthrough just to blaze through the undercity and get to Dantooine which will take maybe another two hours or so from where you're at.

      Also it's cool to see another Jade Empire fan, that game is badass and does not get anywhere near the amount of praise it should IMO.

      @cmitts93

      I do own the game now, so maybe someday i will give it another go. Got my hands full with P5 right now though. And yes jade empire is great. I only ever had two games for xbox and that was one(morrowind the other) if they announced a sequel i'd per-order the game and expansion pass that day! The best part is they could do anything they wanted to with a sequel.

      I mean Jade Empire was like Avatar the last air binder before Avatar the last are binder.(think about the magic combat) plus just imagine what it would look like on today's hardware. I love the art style of that game. The twist at the end was great.(the first time)

      If they did make a sequel, I think they would fuck it up though.  After inquisition(was a let down in the story) and mass effect andromeda which i will most likely not finish.(I hate the Fallout 4 dialogue syndrome in games where you are supposed to have choices) so i want it and i'd buy it but it would most likely suffer from the same faults as inquisition and andromeda. And my hype would be off the charts so it would never live up to my expectations.
