Game News: EA CLOSES VISCERAL! Star Wars 'Reworked' into Games As A Service

Remember that cool Star Wars game Visceral has quietly been working on? The one headed up by Amy Hennig with some star industry talent working on it? We're due to hear great things about it any day now, right? Nope... it's now being totally reworked to include Games As A Service elements and Visceral getting shut down.

Well as a former SWTOR player I can say that EA screwed over that game with the whole loot boxes and Subscription business method making it a very expensive game to play if you wanted to have any of the decent looking gear or join the F2P ranks. My opinion, probably I won't play just because it's an EA game.

    Dear EA,

I hate you. You ruin good things. You're a money grubbing corporation that cares not about the products you create or the people you create product for, only for the potential money you can make. Stop ruining good companies that make good games and stick to your sports games.

Seriously EA, just let Bioware make a Knights of the Old Republic game again and all will be right with the world.

It is very telling that Slightly Mad Studios's CEO has not been taken to court for his comments about EA... sounds like they would have difficulty in proving that his comments are unjustified... that is very bad indeed (it probably means they are even worse since their lawyers are very good and well funded given the amount of work they no doubt have to deal with with all these buyouts and closures and so good at spinning the truth). So it's official: EA are assholes.

Studio heads REALLY need to stop selling out to EA - they are destroying their own reputations in doing it because those studios just won't last the next few axes that fall and their artistic visions will be wreaked time and again... EA only cares about the $$$ and the safe play, not art or taking the risks that make memorable games.

A lot of good people out of work.

I would like Disney to reconsider its exclusivity with EA before 2023. EA is going to give Disney a bad rep. Kennedy has expressed interest in the 1313 style calling it "gold". Doesn't seem like this is a Disney decision. Has EA managed to tie Disney's hands on this, too?

Why do people turn to EA as a distributor? I can understand Microsoft's problems with their exclusivity, but EA's heavy-handed meddling and trigger-happy nature is well-known. Are they the only people left for USA distribution?

I get that anyone who wants to do Star Wars has to go through EA because of that contract business with Disney (likely a leftover from Lucas' regime who also stated EA was going to be their only provider), but how do they sign away their lives to EA just to distribute a game?

The thing about this Star Wars story, it wasn't going to be more of the same Star Wars. It was to explore a different side of Star Wars that must exist but that we haven't seen outside of (Legends canon) books. It sounds like EA is going to distill parts of what is the well-known and established canon. It sounds like whoever is making these decisions is looking at $$$ for cheap and not having faith in the greater Star Wars experience... which is the same thing that Lucas tried to do with his prequels with less-than-stellar results, but money was still made.

There has been the prediction that Bioware will not survive. I can see it happening, too.

EA has sucked for decades but they make the dollars by buying popular franchises and sheeple buy the games without a second thought making them the money that keeps them on top and gives them the ability to destroy good studio after good studio.
