YouTube Calls Out Nintendo

Game News: YouTube Calls Out Nintendo

If someone's got to call out Nintendo for the need to communicate and work better with video content creators, it should definitely be someone who knows what they're talking about, right? Like... YouTube? Huh. I mean, I guess they do know a thing or two about needing better communication...

I'm not particularly concerned about how Nintendo handles video monitization by their players. They're not preventing people from making videos with their games, they're preventing people from monotizing videos of their games. That's their call.

They have a different approach to video gaming in general, and for better or for worse, that kind of thinking is what makes them Nintendo. If that ends up up being their downfall, so be it, but right now, it seems to be serving the pretty well.

Bit misleading to label one youtube employee (even though he is an exec/department head) making a statement as "youtube" making a statement. I understand the point you are making but it's a bit too fox news / cnn spin for my personal taste.

This is a senior YouTube employee, the  “Global Head of Gaming”, making an on-the-record statement in an interview with a widely read games industry news outlet.  He speaks for YouTube as much as if YouTube had issued a press release with that statement.

Say, if Ashley were interviewed by Variety over some The Know related bit of news, her words would speak for the entirety of Rooster Teeth as a company.

You just proved my point and disproved your own at the same time. Ashley does not control what roosterteeth does. She can't make a statement for roosterteeth because she is not in charge of roosterteeth. Matt H is. Best she can do is state her personal opinion. That is not by default the opinion of the company.

Of course, they would attempt this at a time when Nintendo's riding high and might think that nobody else's opinion matters as often happens when someone gets a cash cow.
