Adding to their Splatoon 2 discussion. Splatoon 2 is a wonderful, and very polished game. It is NOT a wonderful, and very polished ONLINE game. It's extremely fun, but the online matchmaking/friends can use a lot of work.

I think something missing from this multi-console conversation is the user base.

"Powerful and cheapest" leaves out marketing power and social network. When you play multiplayer games, all the games your friends play online will decide what direction you go.

Congrats on beating Persona Ashley! Its hard to find the time to get through games like that, and Im happy to hear you're going back for Persona 4, its just a bit shorter than P5 but remains my favorite out of the franchise

I really hope they keep at Pyre, because it is an amazing game, even if the beginning is super exposition and narrative heavy

I do not understand any business model that includes the concept of "I do not want their money."  I want all the money.  To me exclusives are stupid.  If I develop a game I want to make it totally universal so I get all the money.  The idea of I don't want their money is alien to me.

It's a lot less work to make something for only one system and most developers are being paid to keep it exclusive or are even owned by one system. Apparently that offsets the lack of sales and it's still good for their business in the long run because they wouldn't still be doing it if it wasn't.

Ryan is not kidding.  He always goes naked.

    The Naked Challenge.

Winning the lottery is typical a terrible solution.  Even if you win the lottery a great number of us don't have great or even good money managing skills.  People usually lose friends, family and lots of money after they win.  All they're left with is broken lives and lots of debt.

I find it interesting that people are able to understand the free market and competition when it comes to consoles and games, but are unable to apply what they know to the internet.  (Yes I'm referring to net neutrality.)

God, Fortnite looks like total ass. It's like they took a pretty interesting concept for a game and said "Lets make it the most complicated and least user-friendly piece of junk of all time." What the hell was Epic thinking?

    good episode guys.

To speak to the value of console exclusivity, I used to be an xbox kid, had a 360. I was happy with mlb2k and not paying 600 for a console, and enjoyed it as long as I did. Then the 2k franchise folded up, and the only console option was the show on PlayStation. I sold my 360 and games to get a PS3 and have never looked back. I was a one console person, now a 2 with the switch and can safely say that what kept me in particular ecosystems were the games I saw there. For PlayStation I got my mix of the show, goodbye action adventures ala uncharted, and somebody good jrpg fun, and nintendo for well Nintendo. Xbox meanwhile for me was always a shooters and multiplayer platform which I didn't care about and caused me further reason to leave ship and not look back.

I'm proud of Ashley for finishing Persona 5. Especially since the Glitch Please Pilots started with her gushing about the game, it's a really happy moment to hear she finally finished it.

Everybody is making an argument that if all consoles had equal libraries, then the only two options would be the cheapest and the beefiest, but I'm not sure if that's true. Take a look at PC. No matter what specs you choose, you will have access to all games. They might look better or worse, some might not run at all, but there is still a huge market of components to meet everybody's needs. Neither Nvidia/AMD/Intel have exclusive games, but there is still a (somewhat) healthy competition between the platforms, each having benefits and drawbacks, and all of them have their own fanboys, just like the consoles.

Still, I believe that exclusives are fine, because there are games that simply wouldn't exist if a publisher didn't pay for it, like all the ID@Xbox games.

Funny thing, I actually had a dream that I won the lottery. It'd be awesome to be a gamer and win the lottery. But I don't play so it's a little difficult to win if you don't play.

Honestly the reason I have stuck to Playstation is because of the exclusives it offers. I find that they offer games I want more. Whether is Horizon, Persona, Little Big Planet, Street Fighter V ect.

The only game I nearly bought an Xbone for was Forza Horizon 3 but ultimately decided against it because there isn't really anything on that system I want. Especially now where nearly all of the Xbone exclusive games are on PC and my PC being decent enough to run them.

Then there is Nintendo, I love my 3ds and the games they have to offer. While I don't have a Switch currently, I do hopefully plan to get one again for those exclusive titles.

Exclusives i do believe are a good thing. I only ever got frustrated at an exclusive when it was Rise of The Tomb Raider and it was timed for a year. Aside from that I'm super happy with what I get with my console.

I'm almost the opposite. I've been with Xbox since the start because of Halo. Forza Horizon 1 and 2 have been kinda fun, but there isn't much else I'm looking into. And there's never really been anything from Sony that I wanted after the PS1 era so I'm glad I've been with Xbox for so long. Outside of Halo, most things are multiplatform now so it's not as big of a deal for me as it used to be. However, I was patient and eventually got both so that's sort of a moot point. Horizon Zero Dawn has been fantastic, but mostly I'm up to play anything.

as @OniZonda ive been xbox since the first one ive owned every ps and they have always been a 2nd/3rd/4th console but this year ive dumped 100s of hours into persona5/zero dawn and ive not turned my xbox on since the forza horizons hot wheels expansion i played that for about an hour on day of release and thats been it.  forza non horizons is dull (i might get it in a sale but nanas to it at full price horizons 1 was ok 2 was great 3 was ok.  tbh i dont see anything coming up fot the xbox i couldnt play on my ps4/switch ive even considered a ps4 pro but onex i just cant see a single reason to cough up for.  Pc games been there done that and id rather play on a console even though i have a game capable pc forza 3 i dont think its gone more than 10 mins without bombing out

persona 5 i literally started new game+ as soon as the credits ended.  never finished though i got to the end missing 1 convo and 1 mementos trip which was frustrating after another 80 hours and wasnt going to do a 3rd run

exclusives are fine if its like halo/zero dawn the game is only available on x console stuff like destiny is doing is imo a step too far its basically saying you can have the game but a crummy content poor version that odds on costs the same

Sorta. The armor set wasn't anything special and the guns were mediocre at best. The strike was kinda fun but the ship is cosmetic so there wasn't really much missing between each platform (I forget if there was anything else). As for the window, it was only 1 year (sort of. I believe some content is still missing from xbox after 2 years of not having it) so it's not like it was a huge deal.

The one thing that exclusivity does hurt for Destiny in particular, is cross platform. Not saying it's a possibility, but if they were to ever look into it, they'd have to go Xbox/PC or break the exclusive content window because in order for the game to function properly, you have to be able to utilize all aspects of the game. Which means that if PS4 has something that Xbone/PC doesn't, they have to at least program the content into the game in order for Xbone/PC to interact with PS4. Then that brings up the argument of "I'm paying the same price for the same thing, they have something I don't" (which is an entitled opinion, but still vaguely valid) and it becomes a problem.

Full game exclusives, even timed, are a decent idea. Content exclusive is not.

WoW has my "game time played" barometer a bit skewed. I am at 266 days 50 hours played. So spending less than 200 hours just does not seem significant and less than 80 hours seem like the game is not worth buying.

Don't forget to readjust for the cost: Base game, expansions, monthly sub.

I agree with the concept though. It's not like a hard "$1 per hour" or anything, as it varies quite a bit by the quality of the game...but I have completely given up on most FPSes, as I would spend $60, and get like 9 hours out of it.

The main campaign for an FPS is likely to be 9 hours or less on most difficulties, but the value tends to be in the multiplayer side of things. You'll spend 9 hours to complete the story then 800 hours playing the competitive side before they introduce the next installment. But in general, I'd say that if you can get ~$7/hour out of your game for the core story, it's worth it. That's roughly the cost of a movie (without snacks). I know that doesn't quite break down exactly right, but it's kinda close at least. Also there are exceptions such as multiplayer only games and party games so it's more of a good time/value guideline. Your mileage may differ.

Bit disappointed with the Pokemon go fest info that they stated, most of it was just wrong. Niantic had WIFI connections all over the event, most of the people were on WIFI and not phone networks. Also the phone networks had almost no problems, there was a small problem but most of the problems were solely from Niantic's servers not being able to handle the load.
