I think a big part of why people are so upset at EA is not jsut the lootbox system, cause that's not the first time that something like that was used in a game, even if it was extremly poorly, but also cause of the shutdown of Visceral Games, people were excited for a Single player Star Wars and then it got shutdown and they immediatly put out BattleFront, which is quiet a dissappointment (compared to what could ahve been with Visceral) from a Single Player point of view

EA didn't have to change anything. I'm not at all on their side but you've got to give them credit for actually addressing the issue and apologizing. They could have stayed quiet and raked in all that Star Wars cash very easily. It should be a challenge to be able to play Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader. It really doesn't take that long to unlock one of them now anyway it shouldn't be handed to you on a platter. Don't people enjoy unlocking things anymore?

As for another game in The Witcher universe, Geralt isn't much of a spellcaster. Witchers use a magic system called "signs" and they have very specific uses for the tasks he is charged with. I would love to see a game where we get to play as a significant spellcaster, maybe someone from the Lodge of Sorceresses in a different age, or before there was a lodge, who can sling fireballs and teleport and summon beings back from the dead, all things that Sorceresses already do in The Witcher games. Would be cool to see the game as it was hundreds of years prior, where Witchers are plentiful and humanity is greatly struggling to expand their cities and fight back monsters.

I always thought the Witcher series would work well with either an MMO or a Dragon Age type game where you created a character from scratch. I do agree that Geralt's story is finished and depending on the ending you got in 3 Ciri might not be avalible as a playble character. That being said, I'd love a remaster of the first Witcher if it was on consoles, because I prefer console for games like that.

Ngl I actually really liked the format and setting for the "cut-away" talk on Battlefront II, really enjoyed just the three sitting at a couch.

Hey Adam, if you want a SNES classic GameStop sells a bundle that is available. Its the console and a special book to go with it, it is however 125 bucks

This whole battlefront situation hasn't surprised me at all. EA already said they were moving away from singleplayer games because multiplayer games are far more monetise-able. It was pretty obvious that that meant their upcoming games would be loaded with micro-transactions. Personally I just treated their shift in focus statement as one that said EA is no longer making games. I've just washed my hands of them. I won't buy these titles when they've got such egregious pay-to-win elements. Even buying the game and not participating in the micro-transactions is still rewarding them for doing this. So just imagine it like this, Battlefront II is cancelled along with every other upcoming EA game, you'll be so much better off.

Ashley mentioned a post by a guy who worked with designing microtransactions in f2p games, but I don't see it in the linkdump.  Any chance that could get put in there?  It sounded like a really interesting read.  Thanks!

Damion Schubert. I didn't see it on his Twitter/Blog so I'm curious where he posted his statement.

p.s. He is a local Austin(ite?) and it would be totally boss to have him on an episode of Glitch Please.

I personally have no problem with micro-transactions but only if they're purely cosmetic. If it has even the slightest effect on gameplay performance i not interest in it one fuckin bit especially if its in a full fledged $60 game.

As far as games for switch, I'm really excited for the mainline Pokemon and the mainline Fire Emblem games coming to it. FE is scheduled for a 2018 release, and I hope it does well.

A good way EA could have damaged controlled would be by placing the character unlocks behind a campaign progression wall instead of a multiplayer grind progression wall. Makes people who would have only played the multiplayer play the luke-warm single player and doesn't take that long to get. Complete the 5 hour campaign and have all the hero unlocks, then have normal battlefield style multiplayer progression.

If the heroes are locked behind campaign progression, then they can be unlocked in 5 hours. Their whole idea in having a long grind for heroes is so that everyone keeps playing the game, and therefore more likely to purchase micro transactions.

And that idea is inherently flawed because the only reason people put up with grinding is if the grinding is tolerable and the game is free. I don't see how they could have expected people to grind to that extent when Battlefront 1 had 0 player retention.
