What led me to ask that second question is, a few months ago I was playing KOTOR 2 and Halo CE and posted about them on social media, and nearly everyone was asking why I was playing old games. Just kinda irked me.

Check out Adam Ruins Everything - Why People Think Video Games Are Just for Boys

it really does explain it. As a guy I like playing with Girls more than guys. I'm a  co-op RPGer mostly and guys have a bad tendency to let the sports/ego competitive and trash talking get in the way of the team work. Girls I find are in it for completing and story which is what I enjoy. There was one girl who she could tank and I could heal and vice-versa and we could hold a party because we meshed together.

I try to be supportive of the lady gamers I come across. I don't point out that they're female, instead I converse with them like they're a person who enjoys gaming. I try to treat both men and women equally in this regard because gaming is something that should be for anyone who's interested in it. How good you are at a game is irrelevant to your gender. Your skill in a game comes from your dedication and the passion you have for a particular game, and a bit of a carryover with any games you've played before. My best friend is a chick from Canadialand (yes, that Canada) and she can stomp the shit out of me CoD (she took a break so I might stand a chance for the first half of a match), but I will destroy her in a heartbeat on Halo (H3 specifically, 4 and 5 sucked). Different styles for different people, it has nothing to do with the gender of either of us. I feel like there's a long way to go before being a "girl gamer" is not something that anyone would be concerned with, but for now it's at a point where there are plenty of people who will support a girl or woman who wants to get into gaming. One thing I will point out, it's very obvious when a person has been playing for 5+ years compared to someone who has just started in the last year or so. Whether they're male or female, new gamers stick out like a sore thumb. Try not to be discouraged if you happen to be new. As they said in the post show (or pre-post show cause the space-time continuum is weird with podcasts), everyone sucks when they start out.

personally graphics not really a big deal so going back and playing a lower graphic game doesn't really effect much it more so the story and how fast going thru the game recently went back and played borderlands one and felt like i was remembering more about that game then there was felt like i went thru faster there wasn't as much story as i thought there was but also went back and played the fist witcher and had a blast graphics did not reduce it at all

Well, I've been gaming since the NES and I know there are plenty female gamers out there, but people may have had a bad experience and it stuck with them(not a good excuse but it may factor into it) I remember one time in middle or high school(over 10 years ago) I was talking with friends about a game and a group of girls then proceeded to mock us because "gaming is for lame guys to play" we ignored it and moved on(one of my current best friends is a female gamer) but Im sure if someone had this experience and didn't realize that those people were just jerks and from then on thinks "Well these girls called me out for being "a lame guy" so I guess no girls play games" Not that I'm giving them justification, but trying to get into their brain using my own experience. But yea people need to get over the "female/male" stereotypes and realize everyone is their own person and some people are just mean jerks.

It's funny that you say that, because I didn't know that stereotype was a thing until I was an adult because growing up my cousin was into most of the same games I was.

Nintendo holds up really well, it helps it's stylized and better game play. Current gen realist stuff that are very cut scene heavy, ages poorly though.

I gotta say Nintendo does great for being able to go back and replay games since their games hold up quite well over time.  Though that's mainly thanks to the art style but still it's great.

The whole if you are a girl you don't play games came about with the streamers who don't accutally play the game and know horny teens will just watch their boobs and they make money. If someone on the internet who is primarily watching those streams will just think all girls act like that because they can't differentiate someone who is trying to just make money and a girl who just likes games. Everyone likes everything, you are never alone in something. Video games are for everyone regardless of gender, race, or religion. On the going back to old games, I have a ps2 emulator with dragon seeds, i loved that game as a kid. More recent for me would be Fallout New Vegas i play that still to this day.

That's definitely not where it started. I remember that effect since long before streaming was a common thing. It's more of a holdover from the same thing but with comics, or music. This has been a thing forever.

I can see that where some people might get the idea from, but I've heard of this dating back to pre-internet days so before streaming was even a thought. Like Refrash said its gone on with ALL types of media. The same way that video game/music/comics/tv were all blamed for violence(and sometimes still are), they have also been segregated to male/female genre(only women like romances/guys like thrillers etc. even though everyone should know ANYONE can like or dislike ANYTHING its all personal preference)

Alright, i should have said 'became more virulent' instead of 'came about' because they didn't start the stereotype, but i will say they definitely propagated it to a new extreme. But of course there has always been a weird divide between boy and girl activities, some people think one thing is ok for one and not the other when that simply isn't true.

one of my favourite games from original Xbox was Jet Set Radio and the game looks great but suffers from a lot of issues with old games. They demand you explore the world and give you a timer each stage limiting you, trying to grind you are reliant on the game to assist which it really doesn't and a tutorial that may be one of the worst I've played XD not ruined but looking at it critically now does change my view

I replay a few of my childhood games occasionally. Castlevania Symphony of the Night easily holds up, even if the voice acting is atrocious. Resident Evil 1-3 are still playable, but I think that is my nostalgia pushing me through. Metal Gear Solid 2-3 HD re-releases hold up surprisingly well, and I think they might be the best re-releases I have ever seen. For a game made in 2001, the MGS2 remaster looks fantastic. And MGS3 is still very playable.
