I got spoiled on Bioshock Infinite and... gotta say, I'm actually pretty glad about it. Fuck that game's ending.

I bought the mini NES and have preordered the mini SNES. The reason I got them is because I never had them growing up because I had Sega and Atari.

But, a few weeks ago I went to a friends place and played the SNES and it was really fun! It was a console I've never played before and DKC is a great game. Same with the N64 I never had one of those but we played a bunch of games and again super enjoyable.

I enjoy playing these older titles so it's why I had to get my hands on them. Also lets be real, I'm a sucker for Nintendo.

Fixing computers ~30:00... We learned by breaking our dad's PC and fixing it before he got home. FAT and the 8088 instruction set were simple tools in those days. Yet, we've lived through the evolution of PCs and know the science behind the magic.

Old person rant: Kids these days can use the machines but they don't really understand how they work. Environments are being designed for less tinkering and more automation with each iteration. Even the more popular Linux editions are slowly working their way toward closed shells. One day in the future, a majority of Linux users might not know a command line any more than the majority of Mac and Windows users do now.

Reminds me of when I learned AutoCAD. Before we were allowed to touch the PCs, we learned drafting on a table with pen, pencil, paper and guides. We learned how to manually do what AutoCAD does automatically for us to understand more of how it worked instead of just how to use it. Had an instructor in High School that taught us vocabulary through etymology, learning how words became what they are instead of just remembering a list of words and their definitions. I wonder if these things are lost on the quick-gratification "just tell me how to use it" folks that seem to be growing up today.

I have to disagree with Ashley's stance on remasters. Changing mechanics in a new addition to an existing series can be refreshing and welcoming. Granted it can also kill said franchise. However, if you're doing a remaster/remake of an existing game it needs to feel and play as close to the original version as it can. Adding additional mechanics to a fully realized game that existed before can potentially alienate the people that loved the original as well as being an unfaithful recreation for anyone new to the game. Crash Trilogy thankfully kept all of it's bits intact and while it has a few small things added (the ability to replay bonus levels if you fail them, and a very occasional extra checkpoint box) it's 99% a perfect remaster of the original games.

On the whole point about younger generations not being good at computers despite using them because their parents know how to fix them.....It's daly very accurate. My dad is in IT and barely know how to fix any problem because I always go to my dad for help

Man I love that The Patch is back. Funny how it's both more structured but also more relaxed (on time, at least).  One little correction for Adam (who I especially enjoy being a regular on this podcast!) : You absolutely CAN bum cheese in Darkest Dungeon.  I just started playing it this last week and reflexively alt-f4'ed after my best (and only) Man-At-Arms had a heart attack after six sequential AI attacks all targeting him alone.  Opened the game back up and it was a few rounds earlier in combat, managed to save him.

    Watch Dogs downgrade

Far Cry copy and paste map with 4 and Primal

For Honor's lack of dedicated servers and reliance on microtransactions

The Division's lack of post-game substance outside of PvP

Assassin's Creed rapidly having a new game every year in a CoD-esque fashion (thankfully, hopefully fixed with Origins)

It's no wonder so many gamers want to see them "crash and burn."

Personally I don't think there's a whole lot that will keep me coming back to Ubisoft titles. I think that every new IP they introduce is incredibly unique and always pulls me in, but honestly their brand is about as soiled as EA was a few years back for me. Props to Far Cry 5 and AC Origins for looking like a valiant effort to give the fans what they want in gameplay, but I don't see myself trusting their new IPs unless I get the games at a major discount.

Nintendo is saying they want us to buy less stuff to enjoy their games, yet they have and excessive amount of accessories and physical add-ons/amiibos. They should change that statement to "we don't want anyone have to buy any 3rd-party items to enjoy ours games". I actually laughed out loud when I heard this...

If anyone really wants a SNES Classic, you can get a Raspberry Pi and install an emulator for Nes and Snes games and buy a usb SNES controlle . My roommate did it when he couldn't get his hands on a NES Classic last year, costs about the same and you can get a bunch more games on it.

I remember having the problem that Ashley talked about with "I want the new Nintendo." This was back in the 90's those when Nintendo came out with the game boy color I asked for that on Christmas and when I opened the gift from my folks it was a red game boy. I wasn't mad because I finally had a portable gaming device and it came with 2 games.

I'm with Ryan, the fact that the Switch has done so well for being such an underwhelming system that is surprising and Ashley is wrong about needing nothing else for your switch. You may not need a memory card but you really should get a case and screen protector and you'll need another USB C to charge it away from the dock as well as if you plan on using it a lot on the go you'll probably want a heavy duty external battery pack. None is necessary but you really want to get that extra stuff if you're a worrier like me who drops things and wants to use it a lot portably. I'm so split as to when and if I'll get a switch. The stock shortages really make me less interested. But boy do I wanna play BotW and Mario Kart with everyone.

Adam is really bad at explaining games, this is not the first time I noticed this, but he made so many small mistakes and left a lot of thigs out when describing Darkest Dungeon, it painted a different pictture of the game than it actually is

You don't need a 4k monitor... until you have a 4k monitor. I had one, but I broke it and being back at 1080p is a pain. I never needed 1080p until I had a 1080p screen, 1280x1024 was soooo freaking sharp, and 1024x768 was so sharp before that.

I feel so old when talking about gaming and my console history, I had my dad's Magnavox Odyssey, Sega Genesis, Game Boy (only got tetris though) PS2, PS3, Xbox 360. But always have been a PC gamer, even though I went from a Commodore 64 to Windows 95 pc. My first pc game I bought was an expansion for ms flight simulator 95, having no idea about expansions and not realizing I wasn't able to play. Also didn't have the money to buy the base game. Ultimately I did buy it and then I realized it wasn't a game but a sim. I could take off but no idea how to find a destination airport. So I learned how to fly and have been a sim gamer ever since.

I always feel completely out of touch with gaming culture, even though I clearly am a hardcore gamer, but I completely missed out on any Nintendo IP, and even my Sega Genesis gaming was limited to what happened to be at the store. The only sonic game for example they ever sold was Sonic Spinball... But I also had no idea I was missing out on big titles, because we had zero resources about what was out there, the only thing we knew was what they sold at the small rack in the office supply store...

I started with the Magnavox Odyssey and learned how to spell on its keyboard way back in 1980 as a kid. I agree with you on all of this (except being a primary sim gamer, I'm rpg for life) :-)

Probably not.  She's been sick since E3 (bronchitis, I believe), so she's likely on a bunch of meds.  Meds make a lot of people wonky.  Didn't really notice anything in this episode outside of her voice sounding like she's sick, though.
