I need to rewatch it since the theatre I watched it in had technical difficulties and visually it looked like garbage. Hopefully I will like it more in the second viewing, since a lot didn't sit quite right the first time. I agree that the Casino plot line seemed out of place with the rest of the film. I get that it was there to show Finn's character progression, but it was so ham-fisted and awkward! And while I liked the actress who plays Rose, the chemistry between her and Finn is ZERO and that kiss was almost as bad to watch as Luke drinking that milk

Here's a scene from Episode 6: Return of the Jedi -

Following the completion of their training with the last old Jedi master, Luke travels to Vader and willingly gets captured to confront him and the Emperor. Luke is handcuffed and escorted by Vader where Luke says he believes he can turn Vader to the side of good. Luke is presented to the Emperor, who proceeds to torment and harrass Luke. Luke watches helplessly as the rebel fleet in view is decimated by the Emperor's forces. At the pivotal moment in the scene, as Luke is staring death in the face, Vader betrays the Emperor at the last second, killing him and saving Luke in the process.

Now replace Luke with Rey, Vader with Kylo, and the Emperor with Snoke, and I have just described the red throne room scene from TLJ just about perfectly. But sure JJ is the only person who copied the original trilogy and Rian Johnson didn't copy a thing and this was all sooooo original. Keep shilling for a garbage movie.

The way I was ok with the cruiser hyperjumping through the First Order was that is Rogue One you see Vader's Star Destroyer jump in the same area the Rebels are trying to flee, and all their ships stop dead in their tracks meaning they were still partially physical in that moment. My guess is that there is typically some programming with the hyperdrives that if there is an object in the way, it cancels the jump. If this were a thing, and she canceled that program it would mean the scene was feasible. I know it's a long stretch, but it's a way I could justify it

Ok.! i have to throw my two cents in hear !. 'cause i know a guy thats married to a friend of mine that works for Panavision that worked on The Phantom Menace when it was filmed on the dunes at Stockton beach at Newcastle. and that after the 3rd one came out that there was said that there was never ever was going to be any more Star Wars Movies made again after the 3rd one.  When they made the Forces Unleashed 1 & 2 games they said that if there was going to be any more star wars movies made? that they were going to have (Star Killer) come in it 'cause he is the only one that is powerful enough that can defeat  (Kylo Ren) if they don't bring Star killer in to number 9 then they will have to kill every'one off !!!   sorry guy's but that's my personal Opinion on the new star wars saga

To begin; I am a very average movie goer; there aren't many movies I don't enjoy. I am not by any means someone who looks into a movie on a deeper or character developmental level or even someone who can plainly see/realize what a deeper meaning a movie has. I usually have to look up what a movie means after I go see it. Lol

I am also just an average Star Wars fan. I like all the movies, but I don't adore any of them. I like the story for the story and seeing where the characters go and how the universe is established.

I came out of the movie disappointed;  not in the film itself (I actually liked many parts of it), but in my expectations. I thought I knew the entire plot, but almost everything I expected was thrown out the window. I have never experienced this feeling before, so I felt the movie was just okay. After I heard the gang explain the story and twists in a more narrative fashion, I appreciate it much more. I can see where the director wants to take the series. I may not like where it is going exactly, but I still enjoy seeing someone's vision become reality. I believe Episode 9 will make this movie even better, and I'm excited to see it!

There are a few things I wish would have happened or wish I could change:

Open where we left off with Luke and Rei. Have the First Order battling The Resistance take place a few months to a year later so Rei and Kylo Ren can be trained. Rei and Ren have visions of each other during their trainings, like in The Last Jedi.

Luke doesn’t want to train Rei because he is angry at himself for allowing Ben Solo to turn to the dark side. He does his normal routine/training to see her resolve. Once she proves herself, Luke takes Rei through the Jedi training (similar training from Ben Kenobi in A New Hope and Yoda in Empire Strikes Back). She studies the original Jedi texts as well. The training lasts until the First Order and The Resistance battle. Rei senses her friends are in trouble and is eager to learn her final lessons. Luke then takes Rei to the outlook over the ocean where he teaches her what The Force is: a balance, a connection between life and death, not only the Jedi's, etcetera. Once he discovers her immense strength and curiosity of the dark side, he’s angry that he didn't see this coming and reluctant to teach her anymore. She then goes searching in the deeper part of the island. She discovers the part of the island where the dark side of the force resides. Luke has refused to go to this place. Rei looks into and touches the mirror-like wall of stone and is given visions of light and dark battling for control until the last glimpse is over light and dark in balance (In reference to LEGENDs: She is on Tython and is shown time flowing backwards leading up to the Force Wars and ending with the Balance of light and dark and the original Je’daii Order). She returns to tell Luke what she saw. When Luke won’t train her anymore because she is tainted by the dark side, Rei believes the last hope is to turn Kylo Ren good again. She leaves to find him.

Kylo Ren tells Rei that her parents were junkers: confirming her fear that she comes from nobody/nowhere. But Snoke reveals why Rei and Ren see each other in visions: 1st, Snoke is a revived Darth Plagueis. He found the power of immortality by transferring his essence into another. Anakin was to be his next vessel until Sidious killed him.  Snoke slowly regenerated himself until he was strong enough to not be rivaled. 2nd, Before Ben Solo was born, Snoke infused Darth Vader’s essence within Ben. 3rd, To balance this, The Force infused Anakin’s essence within Rei.

Rei's hope is restored as she learns that her past doesn't define her and that she herself is strong enough to become someone important. But she isn't stronger than Snoke so he overpowers her easily and tortures her. Kylo Ren tries to betray Snoke, but Snoke takes his lightsaber and tortures both Rei and Ren. When the Resistance starship light speeds into Snoke’s ship, this gives Rei and Ren a chance to get their sabers and fight the Knights of Ren (Snoke’s Red guards). Once Snoke regains consciousness, he fights Rei and Ren. Rei and Ren embrace the power of the light and the dark sides of The Force and are able to kill Snoke together.

Ren wants to rule the galaxy with Rei using the power they have discovered. Ren is obsessed with destroying the past so beings like Snoke, Sidious, Luke, Han, etc. won't affect the future he desires. Rei understands the necessity of balance in The Force so she refuses to join him. They each try to get Anakin’s lightsaber using The Force, but the powerful pulls cause the lightsaber to split in half. Rei is able to use this time to escape. She will build a new lightsaber for Episode 9 using parts from Anakin’s.

On the *touches ground and tastes it* salt planet, Luke appears to fight Kylo Ren (with a GREEN lightsaber), and once Ren discovers he is using an astral projection, Ren says something along the lines of “You fool! You’ve doomed yourself. This act will kill you and the Jedi will die with you!” Luke responds “Hope, not the Jedi, will always live on.” Then we see the Millennium Falcon fly off. We shift back to Luke and Ren. Luke says “And I will always live on in the Force.” Ren dashes towards Luke as he disappears. Ren is left devastated as his hate boils into rage causing the ground to crack under him. Luke, exhausted from the astral projection, looks onto the two suns as he fades away.

Eliminate the entire casino part. No point.

Fin and Rose get onto the ship to destroy the light speed tracker. They get caught by Phasma. Fin and her fight in a lightsaber-esque fight.

For a time right now where people are so divided and very polarized on certain subjects, I believe we need a movie to prove that things aren’t always black and white. Balance and grey are needed. And that one person can make a huge difference, good or bad (Much like Star Wars has taught us throughout the years).

I think of it this way, George Lucas planted a Star Wars sapling and with the help of others it grew and blossomed into a beautiful tree. Then he went back to it alone and poisoned the trunk with the prequels but it still had some flowers blooming in 2D Clone Wars, Darth Maul, video games etc. Afterwords he sold the tree to Disney and they brought in a good caretaker in JJ Abrams who knows what he's doing and nurtured the tree to sprout new branches and new roots to try and bring forth new budding flowers and more support for a bigger tree, then comes in Rian Johnson and cuts off these new branches so we never see what was beginning to blossom from these new branches and instead adds artificial flowers that don't fit well, he cut away these new roots along with the old that would hold up a bigger and better Star Wars tree because they aren't needed for the future. Now JJ Abrams is gonna have to come back and try his best to restore the tree to the way he left it but it will never be the same. It can never be the same.

I disagree with Gus' counter comparing Luke and Yodas 1st impressions. Yoda was testing Luke's patience when he was acting like a clown. Luke on the other hand wasn't. He wasn't trying to teach Rey patience or anything he was serious about his actions and just wanted Rey to fuck off so he could be left alone to grow old and die.

However totally agree with Eddie's criticism about Luke being out of character by giving up on Ben so easily after thinking he could turn Darth Vader in the past

I also agree with Gus' criticism of Canto Bight. I felt it brought the movie to a crawl. Along with Andy comment about the comedy being cringey and/or too much for a "darker" themed star wars movie. Personally think Rogue One was way darker then TLJ

If Kylo Ren is seriously committing to the dark side he'd better have yellow Sith eyes in 9 otherwise they're completely disregarding the sith lore George Lucas has created from the 1st six episodes.

PS. Overall I think its severely overhyped cuz its title Episode 8 and made by Disney

PPS. WHERE THE FUCK ARE THE KNIGHTS OF REN

"Darth Millenial"  joy also, fun fact, the porgs were never intentional, they realized that it was easier to mask the puffins that actually live on Luke's island with a cg furry critter they could sell as opposed to trying to key out every bird and there nests and making it look like Henry Cavill's upper lip.

I've only seen it once, but I plan to rewatch it, and I think I'll probably like it a lot more the second time through.

The more I think about the movie, the more I like the plot. I was initially pretty meh on it, but it's grown on me a lot. At the same time though, I've grown to resent a lot of the comedic parts more (Poe and Hux's whole thing, most of the things involving BB8, etc). I think what hurt the movie the most was all of Casino World. I love what they were going for, and I think it's a great idea to explore how these conflicts affect those who aren't fighting them; seeing who profits and who is exploited is great and adds a new layer to the story. BUT, I feel like the way it played out on screen was just this bumbling mess of terrible jokes. The drunk alien mistaking BB8 for a slot machine, filling him with coins, and BB8 later shooting those coins at the guards (and then blowing the smoke off the end of the thing) might be worse than Jar Jar Binks in my eyes. Speaking of Jar Jar, he really wouldn't feel out of place there, as some menial worker in the background or something, and it hurts me to think that.

That said, plot-wise, I'm a big fan of most of what happened. I loved Poe's arc; he gets to see that his actions have real consequences. Most of the resistance deaths were because of his actions; people died because he didn't want to sit around waiting and trusting that Holdo knew what she was doing. Speaking of Holdo, her death scene is goddamned amazing. Even though I wasn't really feeling the movie when it happened, that moment sucked me right back in and really blew me away. That is easily one of the best moments in the entire franchise, I love how it was pulled off. I like that Rey's parents are no one, and while the Dark Side Cave/Hole/Mirror wall thing didn't do anything for me at first, looking back I think it really pulled off showing her fears. Luke was afraid of becoming Vader, but Rey is afraid of being alone. That's all not to say that I liked everything about it. I really wish Casino World had been handled better, and Rose stopping Finn from sacrificing himself kind of felt like a misstep as well.

I think one of the biggest things that led to me being disappointed the first time through was Snoke's death. I had heard through reviews over and over that we see just how powerful he is, so after he got cut in half, I fully expected him to somehow shrug it off and then kick ass. After all, as far as tossing people/things around with the Force, sure he did it more than we usually see, but that didn't necessarily have anything to do with power. (After all, moving a pebble and moving an X-wing are the same as far as using the Force is concerned.) So when he was just dead, it really annoyed me, though I like it better now, as well as the implications for Kylo and the First Order.

To be fair, regarding the X-Wing, that thing had been underwater and probably hadn't been maintained for what must be well over a decade. Even if Luke was able to get it running, trying to have it go into hyperspace would've very well destroyed it, killing Luke in the process. So I do think the movie does adequately set up why Luke had to Force project himself.
