Windows 10 Is RANSOMWARE?

Tech and Science News: Windows 10 Is RANSOMWARE?

Epic CEO Tim Sweeney's got a beef with Windows, and now he's stepped up his game. In his latest rants against the platform, he's saying that Windows is going to start holding your PC games hostage. Probably not with a gun, but MAYBE.

Um... quick fact check: you don't have to pay for a license for Linux... just saying.

Edit: or BeOS or a miriad of other OSes out there that are badly supported... at least with Linux there's some support.

The reason why developers aren't wasting their resources porting the games to be linux compatible is because almost no one uses it. Also the reason why even Mac ports aren't very common. Doesn't matter if the OS is free if my shit doesn't work on it.

Um... you've not come across Unity then... to make a game Linux compatible requires you to tick an extra box and upload one extra file.... serious resources that people are needing to put into that... might also mention that another couple of favourite; Ren'Py and Love, can both be made Linux compatible (or are Linux compatible by default) very easily.

Part of the reason is that a lot of the people building these use Linux, even if the players don't... or the Indie dev's that come from that (less educated) player base.

this guy is an idiot, if he really believes this why isn't he accusing apple and Linux for the same thing.  after all you can't play all your games on those.

In the case of Linux that's more due to developers conspiring not to release compatable versions of their games! ;) :P

It seems like Tim didn't do his homework when he was making his tweets.  That this OS is for making or playing games.

But not surprised.  Tim has been against Windows 10 since the beginning.

    I agree zoombinis was great.

Some people haven't been Windows people for decades - the takeaway is that nothing will change their minds.

yes it locks you out of installing stuff in the same way i cant use steam on my chromebook (and i suspect my vhromebook has enough power to run some steam games) which is probably a better comparison than an actual pc.  I cant see many people building a games rig and then installing windows cloud it wouldn't make sense in the same way that you wouldnt install chrome os/linux (probably) on a games pc.  I know hes protecting his livelihood but surely the lockout on ios is much worse and mac os is going the same way they want everything bought via the app store why should ms be any different.  It also cant be impossible to make steam a uwp app anyway and have it serve uwp games out

It's probably the issue of Windows being (in effect) a giveaway when you buy a new PC, if the new giveaway becomes this cutdown version of Windows then you'll have to pay a couple of hundred extra (as it has been in the past) for the Windows Pro upgrade then that'll cut into the hardware you can buy with it... of course the solution is to stop trusting Microsoft with all your stuff and paying them to rip you off every upgrade cycle (making thing look pretty and then charging you for the new standard they just creating is an abusive monopoly practice... they already been convicted of that - leopard, spots?)

But who would want a secure, modern, cross-industry and worldwide supporting OS? It doesn't have hundreds of game releases every week so why run Linux? (But then I grew up where the release schedule for Linux is about ten times more prolific than my first machine and costs... of wait - the majority of Linux games are free! And the rest are less expensive than they were back then... kids these days :D ;) :P

Edit: Seems smilies are not something people here understand?!? :D
