Tech and Science News: Oculus Defeated in Court, Rift DEAD??

The trial for virtual reality has just been decided by a jury... and Oculus lost. Fortunately for them, Facebook will help cover the damage, but less fortunately, ZeniMax might move to stop the Rift from being sold. So what does this mean for VR?

I'm happy Zenimax got awarded the compensation fees and the Jury found Oculus to be infringing. Honestly, it's not the best public look for Oculus at the moment, and this might push VR use back by a few years, but using others' tech and stolen files is just ridiculous.

That's like saying electricity would die altogether if Tesla sued Edison. If Edison was pro-slavery.

This isn't petty bullshit. This is like someone breaking into your house, reading your journal, and then copying it down and selling the resultant book, all the while claiming that it's an original story. Yeah, the guy didn't literally steal your journal, just as the guy in this case didn't literally steal the rift; he just took technical data developed for Zenimax, in violation of his contract, and used it to build something for another company. That's pretty dang illegal.

Rift was already obsolete when it launched. No wonder. The technology was stolen and couldn't be updated. No matter how you look at this, Luckey is a terrible person.
