i mean, if the trailers were any indication of how this movie will be comedy and character wise (which seem to be what a fair amount of the reviews are saying) then it will be going for cheep laughs off of gags that try too hard or go too far. Character developement wise it seems like they opted out of subtle "tell you who I am through my actions" type story telling for a blatantly direct approach where every literally states who they are, and where the only black women in the film states that she isn't as smart but has a car, which is not what winston was in the originals in any way shape or form. He was the grounded and normal person just looking for a job, even stating "I'll believe anything you want me to if there is a paycheck in it". As well the ending seems like the unfunniest thing in the world considering not only is it a blatant redone scene from the first movie, but instead of just shooting the damn thing they shoot it in the crotch, for some more cheap laughs. I have not seen it as of yet and I probably will, but no way in hell am I taking a chance with around $40 of my own money.

I was surprised to hear this was a reboot... Was it that much of a stretch to say they were a group inspired by the originals antics and wanted to try their hand? Anyway, despite reviews being all over the place I might check it out, but not really setting expectations too high. Perhaps the trailers don't do it justice, but I got more of a sketch/spin off vibe than a standalone film.

I think the idea was they were going to take the movies story more seriously then the old ones did and they didn't want to be shackled by rules created for movies that didn't care. That's just my opinion as a writer though.

I can already tell all these "good" reviews are from women desperately trying to like this god forsaken movie

This movie HAD potential... as a concept. They could've made it a sequel, tied it in to the originals' canon, all sorts of things. As a complete reboot, however, it just screams out as a pathetic attempt by a bunch of bigoted old rich corporate bourgeoisie fat cats trying their hardest to pretend to be inclusive.

For an example of how a gender swap on main character can go WELL, pay attention to the end of the current Marvel Comics event where Tony Stark is expected to hand the reigns of Iron Man to a black woman.

From what I've heard, she's not really an established character right now. I'd say Wolverine getting switched with X-23 is a better example because it made sense in universe.

Wait....Jurassic World was a home run? The best comment I ever heard about it was, "meh....I should have waited to rent it at home and watch it." I don't think that's a home run or did I miss something?

Okay let's be honest for a second, No matter who the cast was people would of still hated it because it wouldn't stand up to the original movies which lets be honest once again they were alright movies, not worth all of this hate over.

People have rose colored glasses for movies like that. Titanic and Forest Gump are god awful, but if any reviewer were to say that, they'd never work again.

By the way, just as a follow up to that reddit post, the person that made it was just a troll post made by someone that actually wanted the film to do well, you can see their reaction to everyone using their post as "the poster child of reddit misogyny here.

Oh and the post itself was voted down and got called out on on r/ghostbusters, but it's not like anyone will acknowledge that part.

Sony's viral marketing division has been hard at work for quite a while now, well before the movie came out. Whether this reddit poster was one or not I have no idea.

If The Martian can count as a musical comedy, I think this movie passes as a comedy, even solely based on the trailer.

I watched the movie, and it was worse than ghostbusters 2. At least Ghostbusters 2 had more of a dark sense of humor, instead of terrible slapstick humor jokes.

I was never a big Ghostbusters fan at all and since watching Identity Thief and that cop film that I can't remember the name of I just can't stand Melissa McCarthy. I don't enjoy her at all and so I won't be seeing this film and I'm sure some people will think it's just because she's a woman I'll point out that I avoid Jim Carrey movies or movies with Will Ferrell as the lead for the same reason.

Thank you! Someone else who feels the same about those "comedians". I know that there's people out there that find them funny, but I don't and refuse to waste money on any of their films.

Now, I grew up on Jim Carrey so I love him, but I can definitely agree with you on Will Ferrell. I can't STAND his style. Embarrassment comedy is what I call it (classic cartoons Doug and Hey Arnold were kings of the style), and it always just makes me uncomfortable.

I have a similer thing with Seth Rogan. I don't think I've ever seen anything with Melissa McCarthy, so I might rent Ghostbusters one of these days if I hear good enough things about it.

I never really understood why Ghostbusters 2 gets as much hate as it does. I mean it isn't as good as the original, but I never say it as being a bad movie.

A lot of people say it was a bit too lighthearted compared to the original and it was more trying to be family friendly. And given that the Real Ghostbusters animated series was extremely popular as was the toy line at the time Sony probably wanted to bank on getting all those kids in the seats and wanted a slightly softer movie.

Another issue is the plot hole if one could call it that, of the Ghostbusters being seen as frauds for the first movie, and having to win back the trust of the New York government and it's people.

Well it's either admit that ghosts are real and there is a life after death, or throw four somewhat shady guys under the bus and claim it was all a hoax or a mass hallucination caused by them. Humans have an amazing ability to ignore what is right in front of them. Plus in the first movie, Peter's unwillingness to at least explain how their containment field works and tossing the EPA worker out is what eventually caused him to shut it down, which caused until amounts of damage and a literal god to summon a giant marshmellow man.
