Crytek OUT OF MONEY (Again? Still?)

Game News: Crytek OUT OF MONEY (Again? Still?)

It looks like Crytek has stopped paying their developers. Again. For the last six months or so. It's not the first time the Crysis developer has been in hot water over wages, but it's looking increasingly difficult to pull itself out of this one.

ouch, that really sucks for those employees. But I don't think it's as simple as "lol, why are you working with no pay? that's just silly". People are desperate to get, keep, and maintain jobs, and HOPING that the standard promise of income associated with having a job will come through in the end. Management is just abusing that desperation and hope, while discouraging any kind of communication on the matter to suppress awareness from both inside and outside the company. I know we don't have all the facts, but it looks pretty despicable on their end.

Was going to mention CIG had an office in Frankfurt but you mentioned it. That office is also mainly staffed by former Crytek employees currently working on the Procedural planet tech and personal weapon designs.

    That sucks.

I agree Ashley, if the employer is not paying you, you don't work.  Nothing is free.

Why would anyone use the CryEngine given the existence of Lumberyard? Now, Lumberyard ain't no walk in the park, but CryEngine is like trying to walk in a park where every blade of grass wants to kill you if you try anything funny and nobody wants to tell you the rules. CryTek did a stupid by letting Amazon release the source code to Lumberyard. Amazon's Lumberyard is gaining the support community that CryTek could never manage to foster. Amazon keeps tacking on more social features into Lumberyard -- recently adding the ability to grant multiplayer access to selected active twitch viewers of the player's channel. Amazon's never going to run out of money to throw into development of Lumberyard.

If CryTek was hoping the CryEngine was going to save them, well... they definitely have something to cry about now. (What? Too soon?)

I think that the developers' best bets are to leave CryTek and try to jump on board with someone else now, like Amazon (as I think Cloud Imperium is full up on engine devs).
