Anyone else hear Kara (I think) in the background around 6:20? She tells him to move the water jug if you listen carefully, lol. But seriously, major audio distractions in this podcast.

You guys talked about losing completed status by downloading DLC. What bothers me is buying a game and the DLC achievements are already included. So the game I just bought can't be 100% unless I buy the DLC and complete it too. I know it's not much but it's still annoying. My only completed game so far is Minecraft.

I'm more with Gus on the idea of achievements. I used to be really into collecting them and competing with friends to complete the harder ones but now, if I want to sit down to play a game, I want to be fully immersed and play it through to the end without having to worry about doing something specific at a certain time or knowing which option to choose at some point. This is why I actually prefer multiplayer based achievements, because I'm competing with other players to earn it, plus I can also try to get it at any time and won't have to replay a campaign if I fuck up.

Wasn't the wii launched with The Legend of Zelda:Twilight Princess ? Because I can remember being inundated with ads for the game and the console at the same time. And I think the console sold out pretty quickly because the game looked quite amazing.

What DLC for Bioshock 2 was Michael talking about? The one that introduces new maps that they don't have a playlist for? I have Bioshock 2, but only played the multiplayer a couple times. I got a couple DLC's for it, but not all of them. Wondering if I have the same one he's talking aboot...

Some examples of people who have no guaranteed broadband connection, drawn from about five minutes thought. I'm sure there are many more:

    * Service-people in the military stationed overseas (really bad PR move, excluding them).
    * People who take a console on holiday for their kids.
    * People who have a console at a holiday home/cabin, etc.
    * People in other countries whose internet is not as cheap or as stable - as an Australian who works in IT and has relatives who live outside the major cities, this is something I see all the time.

Agreed. Lets not forget people who can't afford to have great broadband connection. Even here in the USA there are several places where the best connection is still dial-up.

And then there are places where weather conditions come into play much more often, to the point where their connection could be out for days or weeks at a time.

What Burnie was saying about catering the lowest common denominator, the same thing happens with consoles does it now?

With the upcoming Xbone they plan to last the generation for 10 years (Not certain if correct may just be dumb rumour I picked up) regardless of it being correct or not, graphics cards get outdated really darn fast. The current games that come out that aren't exclusives are held back on the PC. The PC can run a lot greater things than the console does but it's forced to play a slightly better version of the console version.

    I'm buttravenged about this concept.

Just signed up to leave this comment. I download the mp3 to listen to on my ipod while I do other things, and the last couple weeks the final minute or so of both the patch and the regular podcast has been cut off and instead replaced with a repeating loop of the penultimate minutes. The m4a files don't have this problem. I haven't seen any comments on the issue so maybe it's just me, but I haven't been doing anything different on my end so I thought I'd bring it up.

It's not just you there have been other comments about it, also I find it odd that the mp3 is less compressed than the m4a version

Saints Row 4 looked like Saints Row 3: Blood Dragon, but these guys say otherwise. I guess I'll pick it up.

    • Gibsonites

I don't know, I bought it somewhat based on their recommendation, and I kinda regret it.
Saints Row 3: Blood Dragon is a perfect description of what it is. It's literally the entire vanilla game of Saints Row 3, but with super powers tacked on.

  • waterchem001

My apartment has built in dsl internet. That when it works tops out at 2mb/s. So, I have high speed broadband from the cable company which is pretty good. Except for the times the cable is out for 8 hours such as yesterday, and the dsl didn't work that entire time. So, spend that time to work on the 100 feathers on ASCII.

The buzz noise is making this podcast unbearable to listen to. It's actually hurting my ears.

  • melkomorgoth FIRST Member Star(s) Indication of membership status - One star is a FIRST member, two stars is Double Gold

What is with the fucking buzzing? I love the videos (often can't watch the livestreams) but...I'd like to be able to hear what you're actually saying, too.

    • melkomorgoth FIRST Member Star(s) Indication of membership status - One star is a FIRST member, two stars is Double Gold

Possibly...it was really annoying. There's a healthy amount of white noise in the audio for the usual podcast as well...I'd honestly prefer them to go back to the old roundtable, fixed-mic set-up if it meant increased audio quality.

from 6:13 to 6:31 does anyone else hear a lady talking in the background?
maybe its the control room or maybe im crazy but you can clearly hear "... on your left..." @ about 6:20 and than "...thank you..." at about 6:30

    • JAGxTERA

Yeah there's some cross-talk going on. There are a few reasons for that. But yeah i know what you're talking about.

  • ediskrad327

about DLC removing completed games i think it varies from game to game. i've seen that some games add the DLC achievements to your gamercard regardless of you having the DLC in the tittle update but other only add the achievements after installing the DLC and booting up the game

The point of the DRM boycott isn't just about our connection, the servers on their end is also in question. How many games that claim that their always on connection is better for the player? Now how many of them actually got better? Now how many screwed people over? Just off the top of my head: Diablo 3, Sim City, Defiance.

    • Burnt2Shreds Metal Gear

While I agree with you on Diablo 3 and Sim City, Defiance was set to be an MMO from the start, so always-online is a core component of it. Horrible MMO servers are a completely separate issue from always-online DRM that's supposed to somehow improve player experience, but instead hinders it.

  • JAGxTERA

They're still trying to work out the bugs in their production. Yeah, sometimes its a hit-or-miss as far as the quality of the sound but in time they'll have it all worked out. I hope.

For a second I thought it was just my crappy speakers. There is definitely something funky going on with the audio for the podcasts.

      It's extremely distracting. :(

  • antartiguy

also about the always online thing, it's not that we don't have broadband it's that they might not upkeep their servers to match, so you can't play games because their servers are down.

    • waterchem001

Another would be monthly data caps that some providers have. The one I use is putting in one by next month of 350 gigs/month for the highest premium service.

    • antartiguy

that's a fair point but sim city thought they could keep up with their players and they couldn't with always on, how would a console with even more players? and then their is things like natural disasters and updates and maintenance etc to take into account, it's a lot of effort money and inconvenience for absolutely no advantage to the customer. :)

They invested close to a billion dollars in their server infrastructure, so I can't imagine that server offline time (aside from possibly infrequent updates and the occasional power outage) will be a big deal at all.
