So while Burnie complains about the PS4's and XB1's respective sleep mode and low power mode, he seems to forget that the Wii, Xbox 360, and PS3 all have a similar feature where they remain in a low state of power consumption until you press a button on the controller to remotely turn it on.

Rocket has been pretty public about why the DayZ Standalone Alpha hasn't been released yet. The December 2012 release prediction was for their initial plans to simply release the mod as a standalone executable, which would make it much easier for users to install and for the devs to update. This was after about a year of Rocket consistently updating and refining the mod.

During that process, they realized it would be much better for everyone if they instead rebuilt everything from the ground up to make it more of a legitimate game rather than a standalone mod. Since then, there's been a ton of updates and videos on their devblog site detailing their progress (Rocket also tweets pretty frequently about the current state of the standalone). Nothing from the mod is being ported into the current DayZ Standalone. Its understandable why its taken almost a year to get to the point they are on the standalone and what they've been showcasing recently (crafting, weapon/player customization, intuitive inventory system, redesigned client-server architecture) is looking pretty neat.

The game they're working on now is almost nothing like what would have come out a year ago, and as someone who's been following the development pretty closely, I feel that it will be worth the wait.

    Link to their devblog:

Specific devblog about missing the December 2012 date:
    dayzdev.tumblr.com/post/39933141266/where-is-the-standalone-release-i-suppose-i

Great episode, by the way! The new intro looks pretty cool.

About the Titanfall PS4 controller pic, is it at all possible that the guy was playing on the pc and he was simply using a PS3 controller? Some folks don't like using mouse and keyboard after all.

I don't think many Americans care about controller support for more than 4 controllers, but in Europe it's really important! I'm sure that I'm not the only one who teams up with 6 other friends on a PS3 playing FIFA before a Champions League-game!!! :)

This has been bugging me the last couple of podcasts(both RT and Patch). The conversion rate of Microsoft points to US Dollars is 80 points to one dollar. In response to the whole "games must have DRM so companies can protect against piracy" thing - GOG.com seems to be getting along ok without it.

I think the critical thing is both availability and goodwill. People are going to pirate regardless, but Steam showed that convenience and low prices combat piracy, and I think GOG is showing that if you take a principled stand for something you can build a loyal fanbase that is willing to pay to support a business model they agree with. After all, RoosterTeeth Sponsors don't need to pay to watch RT's content, but they/we still do, because we want to support something we enjoy.

It comes back to choice, which is what I think upset a lot of people with the 'always online' requirement for the XBox One. It's not that it existed, it was that you were forced to use it, regardless of whether you wanted the features or not.

It was yet another step in taking a little more control of their purchase away from the consumer.

Are RT News videos not being posted on roosterteeth.com? If the size of the current audience isn't being appreciated by publishers, maybe nothing short of a full RT News site would change that.

I also feel that Microsoft has really dropped the ball with their marketing and PR. I have always felt that this was a problem for them, even back to the Vista and Zune days, But it seems to have gotten a lot worse recently. Everything from Adam Orth, to where we are now with the X1, seems to read like a " What not to do when promoting a new product " handbook. Sadly they don't seem to learn from their mistakes.

It's still boggles my mind that they haven't removed the Netflix, Hulu, TV functions, and other subscription services out from the XBL paywall. It makes sense if you look at it from the subscription perspective, as that seems similar to how MS runs it's business services, but with all the negative press with the X1, a simple way to get good press and increase the allure of the X1 to non gamers. Get the X1 in the person's house and the subscription to Live will come eventually.

Just to clarify is anyone is wondering, the PS4 has no external game INSTALLATIONS .. not storage, always look at the question asked.
Also its natural that the PS4 requires a Online connection to DOWNLOAD games, It can still be setup and played totally without internet straight out of the box.

Now when it comes to News.. I fully support a RT run News site, but i think it would be better to have it on a separate site and youtube, same RT community just 1 extra link at the top of the page. I could quickly see that becoming the default RT startpage, and a Separate Youtube channel with lets say a daily quick news "broadcast", video reviews and well great place to host The Patch.

Infact The Patch would not be a bad name for a Gaming News site. Just make sure that the reporters are unbiased

      @25zerotwo

These are on Rooster Teeth's Youtube channel, I usually just check every couple days to see what's on their Youtube account to make sure I'm not missing anything

Which also makes me wonder... why are there some videos that you guys aren't uploading to Rooster Teeth 's website? It would be kind of nice knowing when a new Full Play/Game Time/News segment would come out. I understand going to Youtube so you guys can continue growing your fan base, but what about your current fans?

@burnie Missed something here. Where would I find these news snippets?

I sponsor, I subscribe to the LetsPlay Channel, Patch, RT Podcast and SpoilerCast, but despite checking your front page cannot track down these news Vids. Knowing that you want to evidence an online presence and community beyond RvB, worthy of better industry engagement and collaboration, should you perhaps make it more 'in your face' so that you can maximise views / subs etc.

Don't get me wrong, with a little effort I am sure I can find it, but wanting to assist your goal, could you make it easier?

Well if you look at how SourceFed does their news segments, separating each news article to a different video as to have one discussion at a time, would be much more appropriate for video games. That way fanboys have a choice of the system the news is about. And there would be less pollution from the console wars. And more likely a civilized conversation.

    • burnie FIRST Member Star(s) Indication of membership status - One star is a FIRST member, two stars is Double Gold

The recent trend for our YT presence has been "build up, roll out to a new channel" -- I don't know what will happen with news but I do know that RT needs to do something to better communicate the enormity of audience to the videogame developers and publishers. There's a lot of industry people who still see us as "the Halo guys"

  • Gibsonites

I don't see their point about the PS4 "requiring" the console to be always online. It goes without saying that if you're buying a digital copy of a game your console has to have some sort of internet connectivity. The difference is that the online features aren't required to use the console. Someone without internet will still be able to buy a physical copy of the game, they just won't be able to download the digital one. Exactly like the current generation and nothing at all like XBone's initial design.

    • Gibsonites

That explanation actually makes a lot more sense in retrospect. It seemed like Ryan was correcting you and you were just ignoring it, but now I understand that you both (and I) were just talking about different things. I definitely agree that Microsoft is doing a bad job of marketing the pros to their policies, and seem to be focusing too much on the cons. I never did (and still kinda don't) understand the benefits that users would get from the console being always online. As far as I understood the only pros to that policy were playing games from the hard drive and "cloud computing," though the practical use of that was also not very well marketed.

    • YMIHere

      @burnie
I don't think splitting the two (features vs restrictions) works though. Nobody was upset about new features, it just would have made the backlash come later and probably much worse (since people would have to buy it first). You even bring up the point that Sony could be hiding that they have the same restrictions, and that they'll catch hell for it later if so. I think you're spot on about your assessment except that it's a marketing problem for MS. I just don't see it as a marketing problem for MS to be upfront about what their system does, and I think Sony will get hit much harder if they've just been hiding stuff from us. If you just don't think their marketing in general is as good as it could be, it's a really hard time to dissect what kind of damage it could do because of how big of an impact a hardware restriction had on the reception of the X1.

Have to defend myself a little here. In no way did I start that conversation to talk about Xbox's original plans. I was trying to do an apples to apples comparison of the smartphone/wake-up feature and how the two companies responded differently while saying basically the exact same thing. I was trying to show how MS has yet to learn from their communication mistakes.

But then Ryan butted in with his manly good looks & dreamy eyes and turned it into an "always on" discussion, which I completely understand is the main reason people despised the Xbox One announcement. I kept trying to come back to the apples to apples "wake up feature" discussion but I wasn't very good at doing that. By the time I finally read both tweets, the whole point was lost. Comparing the smartphone feature to the 24 hour check-in makes no sense whatsoever.

I can confirm that if you redeem a point card, it will add the cash amount into your account.

But it is starting to get confusing with all the promotions that MS has running ( Bing /XBL rewards, Pizza Hut, ect ) that used to net you points, as now there is another level of points needed in order for those promos to continue working, and it doesn't seem as there is any uniform value to any of the points in the promotions. So the Bing points now have a different value than the XBL rewards value, which all have a different value from the old MS points that Pizza Hut is using.......and now I have gone crosseyed trying to type this all out.
