It sounds crazy for Rift to be more played than WoW but the reason is more Rift players use Raptr cos they get in game incentives for using Raptr like a free pet or something.

Not sure when The Patch Video Game Awards will be taking place, but when nominations happen they should break apart the Best Downloadable Game Content category into DLC, game digitally delivered/indie game, and best mod. There are so many great mods on PC that don't get enough love from people who don't run in PC circles. For example, that modder who got a job from Bungie made Falskaar (which is one of the best mods ever created) is just one testament to the quality of the (Skyrim) modding community. But there are dozens of other modders who make mods of that caliber and I think they should be recognized in the awards.

Listening to the patch the last few weeks has really illuminated the state of the Video Game worlds for me, and it's pretty cool.
I've always been an avid gamer: but my interest has tapered off the last few years and I'm more of an observer.
Games used to be a static experience; buy a game and take yo lumps. You'd never find an issue and say or even think, "This is going to get better" because there was no way it could! So awesome to see devs back their product and how a game can evolve after it's been purchased, shipped, played, broken, etc.

I think we should stop using words like "microtransactions" and even "DLC" in favor of words that are more descriptive of the actual content that you're getting. Microtransaction really just means you're not paying much (increasingly incorrect) and DLC just refers to downloading the game (which is pretty much all games now). For example there's "playable content" like new worlds in Skyrim or "accessories" like new items in Saints Row, but what games like Forza are now offering is the "pay not to play" model where you're actually just paying to have the creator let you not play the game.

Did you here that the walking dead season 2 is not scheduled for release in Ireland or New Zealand on the 360 due to rating issues even though Ireland shares rating with UK (PEGI) and season 1 and 400 are available on 360.

Gonna start a forum thread cause Adam had a really good point about wanting to have objective and rails in a game cause the open world stuff can get stale quick if you're not lucky about stumbling onto things. I agree, would rather have more objectives and then go off the rails along the way to interesting side quests instead of constantly free roaming randomly. Curious how everyone else feels about this as it can be a really important balance issue

-edit- Apparently I suck at linking forum threads, but it's called "More guidance or freedom in gaming?" under the Sponsors threads

C'mon Ryan...the first Fable was really good. To each their own, but still, given the time frame it came out, it was pretty impressive. Although agreed, they did kind of go downhill with the sequels...not that they really got worse, just didn't do a whole lot new.

I hate when people talk about a games experience without actually playing the game. The people that are complaining about Forza microtransations in this case have not actually played the game. When you just read off how much it is it sounds bad, but when you actually play the game it is a much different experience. The game rewards you for using the same car by increasing your manufacture affinity which gives you more money per race when you use that car. This does 2 things, gives you more money and encourages you to not buy a new car, which makes you more money. You get free money when you do not play with your driveatar. You can "sell" car paint jobs and car tuning kits. There are many many many ways to make money. I have played the game since day one and have never felt that it was making me spend more money. The loss of test drive is lame, although you can test drive some cars but not all, is lame, and day one DLC is also lame, but day one DLC is the norm now.

Before people try to sensationalize something it would help for them to actually investigate the game, not necessarily The Patch guys, they are just some guys talking about headlines. The issue was sites making the issue seem much worse than it actually was.

    • RVBCheckmate

It's true that the actual experience is different to the headlines or opinions of others, but there are some things that need to be addressed.

1.) Are people really going to put down $60 on a game they have no idea about? Unless you've got a lot to spare, most people will not. Intelligent people will rely on reviews and first impressions on a game to have an indirect understanding of a game before laying money on the table.

2.) You made the right point that people should not rely on one source to make their decisions, and they shouldn't. Look for multiple sources, read up on the game, watch videos, and then think about how what you saw would be for you if you paid for the game.

You don't necessarily need to play a game before you can decide if it's bad or not. You just need to be smart to know how you think games should be, how the game meets your play styles, and whether the game does things you know are indeed good for yourself and consumers in general.

I like the idea of Video games having a legitimate awards show, but don't like how spike is handling it. So I'm gonna need you guys to make a better one. Maybe you could do a mid year awards at RTX, and see whee it goes from there.

I think that The Patch needs someone that forms their opinions based on their experience with a game rather than the latest news headlines. Burnie would be great he always brings up games that he enjoys, games that i haven't even thought of buying become games that sound really fun (State of Decay. Dead Rising 3 and the Wii U). They don't have to be as tech savvy as Ryan or Adam but at least i would find them relatable, which is why I started watching things from Rooster Teeth in the first place.

I like Ryan and Adam, but I really wish they actually cared about consoles, because it never seems like they do. I'd like to see more balance between console love and PC love. The last few episodes have just been so PC heavy... The second Fable starts to be talked about it feels like they don't have much to say. Gus seems to lead the console conversations while Ryan and Adam gush over PC. That's just how it feels to me. Don't get me wrong though, I love The Patch and this is a good episode.

    • RVBCheckmate

Well, considering that their entire company is console focused, I think it's fair they get the Patch to discuss PC gaming. Of course, they should talk about both evenly, but like @Scyth0r mentioned, there's been times when they heavily focus on consoles only. They have been doing that for a long time, and they should still consider PC gamers, because a lot of them are part of the RT Community.

I think they just need to swap people out more here and there. The first few weeks of the patch were literally nothing but PS3 and XBox, almost no PC at all, and people complained about that as well. A week with more console people, then back to PC-oriented people the next week, that kind of thing. Swap around a bit.

There would be other factors involved in who is on, of course - who is in the office, not on holiday, has time to read up on topics beforehand, and so on.

I would have loved to hear you guys talk about Youtube's ContentID system.

    • YMIHere

Is RT is it's own MCN with all the associated channels as managed? If that's the case then they may not have even noticed a change. I know they said goodbye to Machinima a while back. The ContentID system seems like a mess right now, but the reason it's got so much attention is because some networks realized they could get a cut from people without actually doing anything and just signed people like crazy.

There's a good Address the Sess video on Youtube with TotalBiscuit, FarFromSubtle (this guy was never with a network), and a couple people from game development studios talking about it.

I think a lot of the anger at Forza's MT's are just the hive mind of forums getting angry about a game 90% of them haven't played. I bought the game day one, after 3 days of playing I felt I was progressing nicely. I had 7 cars each from different classes, including 2 that were gifted to me because I had played previous forza games. Then all this MT thing happened and people acted like you cant progress without paying, which is far from how it felt to me. I started with a 30,000 car and had just bought a 110,000 after 3 days and around 7 hours of gameplay. That seems like a reasonable speed to me, I never had to grind or repeat races. Were people expecting to be driving the P1 after the first 30 minutes? Since then they gave out huge amounts to dedicated forza players, I got given 3million credits and now I have dozens of cars and still around a million left because of this backlash. And they are reducing prices of cars and increasing payouts. Honestly I don't think it was too far wrong in the first place, the game is trivial now and progression is a joke becuase I can buy a car in any class I want.

I do have a complaint though, the day one DLC. I don't like that some of the most popular cars like veyron ss and the LaFerrari have clearly been held back to be made part of the day one dlc. And I don't appreciate that they are so heavily featured in "recommended cars" basically making it seem like you need to buy the dlc to be competitive.

I know my opinion may not be the same as everyone who has played the game, maybe others felt it was slow to progress. But it is clear that nobody on this weeks show has played forza and judging it based purely on reddit posts is a poor way to form an opinion.

    • YMIHere

I don't have an X1 so I can't really comment on how it felt, but the news from it just seemed so overwhelming in terms of price. $60 for the game, then $50 for the DLC, and then the option to pay whatever amount to get the car you want.

I just wish they would disregard the price point, because the current alternatives seem much worse. The season passes are a gamble, personally I just haven't had enough good experiences with DLC that I've ever wanted a season pass. The non-cosmetic microtransactions have a huge chance to impact the actual gameplay. The cosmetic ones can even be detrimental to games that place an emphasis on style if overdone (see The Sims 3). I just want to buy games, not invest in them.

I think they're not going to fix any of these problems until the new website is up and running. Pretty sure this is a case of "Why fix version 1.0 when we're about to move everyone to version 2.0?"

Seeing as how there is no official Tea Party or a head of the Tea Party (e.g. just a bunch of core beliefs that your party must live by rather than an actual political party with a head, party organizer, conference, party program, etc...), I think you're splitting hairs.

The National Liberty Federation identifies with the Tea Party ideology and grew out of the Florida Tea Party. Maybe some racist things they said brought bad publicity to the Tea Party movement, but the majority of their ideology still parallels that of the Tea Party.

Even the article you supplied states, "Wilkinson, one of the original tea party organizers in Palm Beach County" so obviously at some point he (and the rest of the NLF) was associated with the "official" Tea Party before they "disowned" the NLF. Which begs the question who are these "tea party leaders" who are disowning Mr. Wilkinson and what are they disowning him from if there is no official party?

The NLF(National Liberty Federation) headed by Everett "Dirksen" Wilkinson and is not associated with the Tea Party movement in general.

It's kind of weird considering how he opened the show. "I'm not 12... now onto Fable." =P

Of course, Nintendo should be happy anyone mentions them at all because of how bad they've been with copyright enforcement. The best advertising for video games is free to the publishers/developers right now and not only are they missing the train, they've occasionally destroyed parts of the track.
