I've watched RVB while cleaning my room, folding laundry, doing art, browsing the web, playing with the cat, writing a resume, packing for a trip. It's great background noise once you've seen it once.

I believe the reason Twitch is now using a delay is actually so that when you are playing an online game such as Halo 4 or even better, DayZ, players on your server that are also watching your live stream have a harder time tracking you down. The Elgato Capture Card does this in case you are live streaming but it's only a 3 second delay.

I do American Civil War reenacting. I've seen plenty of black powder muskets and pistols fire, and have fired plenty myself. That amount of smoke it about right, but it's the wrong color, and a little too dense. But the volume of it is pretty good.

I must say that I'm playing Euro Truck Simulator 2 whilst listening to this podcast. It's more enjoyable than you might think. It's relaxing anyway. The scenery is amazing.

Caboose: Stop folding your wearables we are trying to make a show for you.
Church: Caboose! Stop! You can't break the 4th wall!
Caboose: What?! There is a wall? Where, Church I don't see it? Am I doing something wrong, why is the wall breaking? I'M SORRY WALL I DIDN'T MEAN TO HURT YOU.
Church: No, God damn it Caboose! There is no wall. Just shut the fuck up. You can't talk to the audience.
Caboose: There is people watching us?! Where?! I don't see them. Are they invisible like the wall?!
Church: No Caboose. Just. Shut. Up. Thank god for our editing equipment. We'll just cut out these past few minutes.
Tucker: Yeah, about that. Caboose kind of broke it a few days ago. So, we can't really edit. We we're supposed to do this in one shot.
Church: WHY THE FUCK DID NO ONE TELL ME THIS?! GOD DAMN IT!
Tucker: Simons sent out a memo to everyone dude. That is your fuck up. I even took time to stop watching porn to read it and I don't read anything thats not porn. I just take my work very seriously. Chicks love a working man with priorities.
Church: You know what. Fuck. Fuck you guys. Fuck the audience. Fuck them. They can deal with all this bullshit. I'm done. Bye.
Caboose: Church! Church! Where are you going? Church! Chur----
Church: SHUT THE FUCK UP CABOOSE. I'M GOING TO LIVE IN A GOD DAMN CAVE WITH A FAMILY OF GOD DAMN BEARS BECAUSE IF I GET RIPPED TO SHREDS THANK GOD AND IF I DON'T I GET TO LIVE WITH FUCKING BEARS AND THATS COOL AS SHIT.

Youtube is a really unstable place at the moment and I think there algorithms need to have more of a human input and common sense to stop large corporations censoring videos. But at the same time copyright is still important, it's difficult when you think that copyright laws were made before youtube could even be conceived let alone thought of as an issue.

Holy cow. Totally made up for the PC love fest from last week with a much more balanced (albeit maybe slightly more console talk) podcast this time around. This cast was great too, though I love Gus, but it's cool to get a change of pace for an episode every once in a while.

the point of the new ac4 smoke is that its meant to be used as part of being an assasin and using the smoke as a way of distraction. and as for realisism the amount of time it would take to load etc with a musket, way to long. its not meant to be a case oh look i cant see anything its a case of quick escape, however most gamers dont sit there and your right its a level of over the top realism. its a deterant and there is a line

EA Sports' NCAA Football franchise was discontinued after they and the NCAA were sued by former college football players for profiting off their likeness without compensation. Also, the NCAA itself did not elect to renew the contract with EA when it expired in July, and several major conferences withdrew their support from the game. Moreover, after EA Sports settled their lawsuit with former players in September and announced they were ending the series, the NCAA turned around and sued EA Sports two months later!

With all that in mind I'm thinking it's safe to say we're not going to see any new collegiate sports games anytime soon...

To truly understand what came even before MMO beta and the sorts and showing things at cons and then them never becoming fully fledged products, the best example is the really late 90s. The late 90s and EGM and E3 really taking off and having mass coverage. Nintendo would show so much content looking the same and so many games in development and then show and so few of them ever make it out the door and thats not just games alone. Thats consoles as well. Like the Nintendo DD although released solely in Japan was almost a beta in itself, testing rather to push the current format or to scrap it and push something else in the works thus the gamecube. For those of us that were old enough to remember (keeping in mind i was only 12 back then) reading up on E3 and all the demos that would come out from nintendo so few would make it to market in its original form with its original name. Ive always found nintendo to release a lot of early content and then put it in other games and change the name and back then how it was recieved really dictated the market and future titles and even the feedback from journalists in the gaming magazines at the time held a lot of power.

I had to show this to my bf. He bought me Day Z ON Steam as part of my birthday coming up and i went on a rant talking about it still being in alpha and how i dont have the time to contribute to a game development etc and he got real upset ( i didnt know it was a present yet) and i got my other gift taken back which was a REALLY expensive necklace and ring. Had to show him this he didnt understand what alpha really meant in terms of game design. So thanks day z for ruining my god damn birthday!

About the 60 second delay on twitch streams. I may be wrong, but I'm pretty sure it was put in place for games like League of Legends and Dota 2 so that other players cannot open a stream for someone who may be in their match and hear or see what the enemy is up to. That's why spectating in those games(via the game's client) also has a 3 minute delay for the viewer. In the high brackets of ranked league of legends there are very few players so it wouldn't be hard to say, "Oh hey this guy is a regular streamer" and pop open his stream and know what the enemy team was up to the entire time.

    • umcookies

You are indeed wrong, the delay was put in place to help people who were struggling to watch the higher quality streams when they had more than enough bandwidth to do so. I believe I remember it being referred to as a 'buffer' and help fight against dropped frames and streams that just wouldn't load for some people.

Twitch already had the delay feature built into their existing infrastructure.

This is most likely the reason, catching someone out in a game like league, especially late in the game can cause a massive shift in balance, although I don't know why Twitch can't restrict these delays to only streams of games like League and Dota.

That's fine, I think the question is why is that built in to every stream without the option to opt out.
It's really annoying on Ray's Streams (Twitch.tv/roosterteethray) that the chat and video runs at that delay, it made getting into a game during his halo 4 playdate completely random (I didn't get in :( ) and served no purpose, he has even brought up how annoying it is

I have to say that while I love that they once again have a gaming specific podcast, I don't like the time limit. When I realised this was an episode without Gus, I thought we might get a podcast with some freedom for the participants, but instead of being cut off at the usual one hour mark, this episode isn't even an hour long. I don't understand why Gus loves the time limit other than it makes less work for him, but everyone is getting paid for their work, and I'm sure the sponsors wouldn't mind being associated with a podcast that doesn't have a hard(sometimes early) cut off point. Please extend the patch.

    • umcookies

I can't believe I'm actually going to say this but there's been a few times I've been short on time and actually enjoyed there being a time limit, I often choose the patch over the regular podcast in those situations so I don't have to pause mid-way through and forget everything they were talking about. But as I said this has only happened a few times, every other week I want the damn thing to be longer!

I assume it's a business decision. The Patch is more general than the RT Podcast, it's designed to appeal to a wider gaming audience, not just sponsors. One of the ways they do that it by making them in easily-consumable lengths. An hour is a good size for a standard podcast, you can listen to a whole episode in the car, on a bus or on a lunchbreak without having to stop in the middle.

That being said, I agree that it does often feel too short, I know they miss out on things or skip over stuff too fast. I wonder if an hour an a half would be better, or maybe just be more flexible depending on how much news there is that week.

I don't like the time limit either. I mean, I understand they might have other things they need to do since thave other projects, but an hour is way too short even for that. I'm hoping they extend it sometime soon; still having an hour-long Patch by the time E3 2014 starts would be a big mistake in my opinion.

The Patch has steadily become one of the more notable podcasts in my weekly podcast listening routine. And it's insane to imagine we're already at week thirty-two of the series. So thank you so much to all of those who both appear on the show, and to those incredible behind-the-scene workers who truly make the series happen. Merry Christmas, and thank you for (nearly) a full year of incredible gaming information/misinformation and opinions!
