Here in Holland (The Netherlands)you can pre order online and even get it sent to your house for a small fee and sometimes free. So you don't need to go anywhere to buy your game. It gets delivered to you. And some sites you can pre order for free.

On the topic of the brick vs bottle. You can also use the brick as a melee weapon to kill enemies, you can't with the bottle because it breaks after 1 hit. That's why I prefer bricks.

Well that's more of a spin-off than a sequel, seeing as it has nothing to do with the original game, apart from them re-using the creature creator.

I want a The Last of Us spoilercast! The game is freaking epic.

    SPOILERS!

The Winter section of the game creeped me the fuck out, especially with David (played by Nolan North btw) and his clan. And the last section might be one of the most profound storytelling moments in videogame history. The sections with the giraffes, and Joel's selfish decision to save Ellie's life were so poignant that I left the game feeling a sort of cathartic melancholy. Despite a cliched backdrop of a post-apocalyptic world, the game has powerful characters; Joel being a brutal anti-hero, who's so institutionalized by the world's end that he's willing to sacrifice humanity's hope for a cure, just so he can stay in this world with his adopted daughter. I mean, that's my interpretation, and Naughty Dog made so many things vague and ambiguous so players would interpret things in different ways. I would love to know what Gus, Burnie and anyone else at RoosterTeeth thought and what they took away from it. What I will say, is I don't want to see a sequel. As much as I loved the gameplay, I think a sequel would cheapen it. Anyway ramble over, keep up the good work!

Burnie, people like to actually have a sense of real ownership for things that they pay for. Why is that so hard to understand? And why are you SO against people wanting to do things differently than you on this? You're usually not this closed-minded towards people's preferences. People want to have something physically in their possession so that they don't have to feel like they're leasing a game.

Part of the reason physical media still exists is because it is its own, self containing storage. This is most relevant with movies. Even though HDDs are getting larger (capacity wise) and cheaper, movies are also getting larger in capacity usage (since we gradually use less and less compression). That't why, at least for home use, it's nice to have physical copies. Especially if you do not want deal with quality loss from increased compression (as most digital music and video is more compressed than it's digital media on-a-disc counterparts).
However, on the flip side, compression technologies also keep getting better at reducing the file sizing while minimizing loss of quality. In some cases, you can theoretically (if not actually) get a higher quality compressed audio file than on a CD (look up Red Book Audio, if you're curious). This drop in file size, while maintaining a fairly high quality, is what started the digital music revolution in the late 90's (but you already knew that). It is also why movies are becoming more and more prevalent in digital ONLY form (because even when on a disc, they are digital). They take up less space, and it is becoming easier to display content on your TV from "non-traditional" sources (i.e. your computer, phone, tablet, etc).
Now when it comes to video games, the "it is its own space" argument is less valid, as many games nowadays are required to be installed on the HDD (I'm talking about consoles; installing has been mandatory on PC for as long as I can remember) since the read speed of the disc is not fast enough to adequately load the game. You may be saving some space, but not all of it. And while disc read speeds are improving, they aren't improving NEARLY fast enough to keep up with HDD's.
This is different on the PSVita and 3DS, as they both use cartridge based data. There likely won't be any difference in load time between physical cartridges and downloaded games (I say likely based of experience with other cartridge based systems and my overall understanding of technology; if I am incorrect, feel free to let me know). In this case, physical media has the "it is its own memory" advantage.
At the end of the day, it's all taste buds

By this way, if you read all this, I tip my hat to you.

Discs are still very important, especially here in Australia, because our internet speed is slower and nearly all plans are capped. We're in the process of upgrading broadband across the whole country but we're not quite there yet. Without discs it would take hours to download each game and most of us could only buy a few each month.
If we had the speed of US internet and no data cap, I would choose digital over disc, but for now discs are the better option.

  • The_Marauder

As someone who buys used games almost exclusively, I can honestly say I've never bought a game for more than $30, and most I get are $25 and lower. Why would I want to buy something that's double the price? Especially if it's something that's been out more than six months to a year. Also, I must preface I wholly support digital downloads, but physical media should never completely phase out. What if, twenty years from now (I'm twenty), I want to give my kids the experience of the halo trilogy or some other franchise that's been reduced to only a digital presence? There's no guarantee that the xbox live marketplace, or any other e-market, will still exist that long from now. And even if it did, there's no guarantee that it will have the specific games I want. That said, it's always nice to be able to get hold of physical copies for the sole reason that everything on the internet is extremely fickle. Downloads are nice... until you find yourself looking for something that's no longer available.

  • Jaer

So I just watched a little bit of a let's play for Last of us, and the pictures that is shown in every gaming news site is from pre-release generally or concept art. While there's *still* a very SLIGHT resemblance to Ellen Page (generic brunette #15), Naughty Dog modified the model after they realized the likeness (as they had already stated). Either way, the entire thing is technically over and done, and Page can slip back into obscurity where she belongs.

  • MrSups

I think you guys are missing the point of Used games. Most people who buy used games don't get newer releases. Some people don't have the time to play a game when it first comes out. Most retailers have mainly new releases or popular titles but GameStop has a wider and cheaper selection.

    • Jaer

Used games are nice for your reasoning, but if done right, digital can do that just as well. The issue is that when it comes to consoles, there's no competition for digital releases, so you rarely see prices drop or sales similar to the Steam/Greenman Gaming/GoG sales that are so prevalent.

This is where the major flaw happens for consoles, until companies like Microsoft and Sony (I honestly don't know the pricing structure of Sony digital games on PSN) allow for competitors (e.g. amazon digital, etc) to sell digital distribution (which they won't, and why would they?) the pricing structure won't be able to actually compete against physical new/used copies of older games.

I can't believe that they've banned Saint's Row IV in Australia just because of an in game weapon. The whole franchise and its content is so ridiculously over the top and not meant to be taken seriously. Whoever made the final decision obviously has zero sense of humour. Good thing I don't live there and don't have to worry about grumpy old people telling me what to watch and listen to.

thats the thing though, there is no problem watching or listening whatever you want, as long as it isn't in a game. As soon as it is, the 'people' in that deal with the clasifications just deny it, even though 99.9% of gamers who play it would understand that it is in jest.

I just figured E3 was so big this year because of the new consoles. Obviously Sony and Microsoft are going to go all out, but the number of exclusives announced added to it as well.

Plus the console stuff means that other companies have to push their stuff harder for it to get attention.

I expect that next year's E3 will be way less ridiculous than this years.

  • STM_7

Publishers are going to get people onto digital regardless of whether or not Microsoft or Sony or pushing for it. Burnie is right about one very thing though: Always have physical discs available. Not because you want to give consumers the "choice" but you want to show them the disparity.

Digital games are released much earlier than physical discs.
Physical disc supplies to brick ad mortar retailers are reduced. Either sold out or simply not in stock. Online retailers are fairly well stocked.
$100 Collectors Editions slowly phase out "normal" editions. Diehards who want physical copies will have to buy the very much more expensive collectors editions.
Publishers have just saved a ton of money on print marketing, physical disc production, transportation and unsold stock. Best of all: No need to change your prices unless a competing publisher does it.

Consumer's "choice": Going to buy digital.

burnie is right. retail is an absolute hassle. streaming/downloading movies has made watching movies instant and easy. gaming should be the same way.

the only positive for running out of supply of a game is that it induces demand for a game. but that benefits the company itself, not the consumer.

My xbox has a spotty internet connection so when I buy games for my xbox I always purchased the physical copy of a game because I can't Downlaod it when I want to. Also the games on demand rarely has a game day one. Also if the dev of a specific game goes under and you have the digital copy then your SOL and probably can't play it any more.

Technically it's the official unofficial Patch group. It's the only group for The Patch and so far I think it's being ran just fine. If Rooster Teeth wants to make their own or commandeer the already existing one than so be it and then that will be the new official group. The reason why it doesn't say official unofficial Patch group is because then people would assume that there's already an official group and that this is just a copy. Sorry that i'm trying to have a spot where people can talk about the patch :/
