47:20 "allot of timeshifting mechanics" Funny you say that because this game is a complete rip off of a game called time shift and they pretty much just 1 to 1 copied everything and slapped on a coat of paint and said "look at your awesome new innovative game which we totally didn't just rip off from a game 10 years ago from the original XBOX

Gus get a OLed vita with Borderlands 2
Its amazing. I actually sat at home with my X1, ps4 and gaming PC and just play BL2 on the vita for like a 3 weeks straight. Its only gotten hate by people who haven't played it. its really good and I'm a xbox fanboy.

In another note gus, why the fuck did you compare a arena railed don't even move game like infinity blade to an open world mission game like bioshock. That's like saying skyrim looks like shit compared to railed game like crysis. crysis 3 would look like crap in an open world game. like crysis infinity blade compresses its resources to what's on your one single screen. not rendering 10 miles of the campaign you have to go through. Also mogor is release a 360 Bluetooth controller for $20 bucks that works with bioshock on the phone.

I think Sony messed up by putting tearaway on the PS4. The Vita is a great system, people just need to try it in order to fall in love with it. Now they have taken away a big reason to try it.

The real question is do you think Tearaway is a good enough game that people would buy enough PS Vitas to offset the revenue Sony is going to get from putting it out on the PS4?

Personally, while I like Tearaway, I don't think it has the draw of something like Pokemon so I don't think it'd be great at pushing Vita units.

What do you guys mean? A max of level 20 in Destiny? There's video of level 29 characters floating around and beating up monsters. You can easily hit the level cap in a week or less if it was just 20. I'm not sure there IS a limit thus far.

They should go longer for weeks with big gaming news like, E3, Gamescon and the Paxs that have big announcements. The pacing of this one was way too quick. It felt like they were in a constant rush to get through stuff. I enjoy Burnie a lot on this and the podcast, he is great at slowing the pace down.

I agree with Gus...I feel bad for Bungie having to put up with so much pointless complaining.

Thing that I find scariest, out of the Destiny uproar, is the blurring line between Beta test, and Early Access.

    • SackDangles

I see...... so we are resorting to stating rumor and speculation as fact now?

Bungie, and Activision have released no official statement as to Destiny being released on PC, and have not responded to the rumors, so stating that is pointless to this discussion. They have stated that Console is the sole focus for the launch of Destiny, specifically the XBOX360, XB One, PS3 and PS4. The Mission Statement released by Bungie and Activision have stated that Destiny is a First Person Shooter and that it is not an MMO, so bringing up MMO's as a comparison is also pointless to this discussion.

A developer would care, because of Defiance. I love Defiance, but it was a flop in terms of money making and if it wasn't for the show, would have had far more difficulty taking off on Console. A 8-10 min Download everyday before getting into the game is detrimental to the Console experience, let alone when Bugs in the code cause the console to freeze, having to go through the memory to erase corrupted data, or in some cases, the game never ever boots again. ( OH and FYI Console Defiance, was originally slated for a 3-4 month DLC release timeframe, before Trion screwed the pooch and had to push it back 2 extra months )

I don't have a problem with your opinion, but I do have a problem with you accusing me of making excuses, without checking my facts, or actually paying attention to the advertising released by the developer and the publisher. Accusing people, while stating rumor and speculation as fact, undermines your credibility.

      H4- 3-4 month DLC release time.....BL/2- 3-4 month DLC release time....CoD Ghost- 3-4 month release time.....Titanfall- 3-4 month release time....Destiny- 3-4 month release time....CoD AW- 3-4 month release time.

All AAA FPS console titles within the last 2 years, and all release DLC within 4 months of release date.......That is a standard.

“comparing a PC based true MMO, to a Console based FPS with RPG elements pretending to be an MMO… released across two generations of console tech, is a bit unfair.â€
I disagree. Any PC game has to deal with tech that’s far more diverse than that. If I’m developing for consoles, I know exactly the hardware I’m dealing with, regardless of how many consoles I’m developing for. However, for PC, I have no idea and thus why anyone who develops for the PC usually spends a lot of time to come up with their minimum spec. So anything from the min spec to technology released the same day as the game is released has to be accounted for and optimized for. It’s way harder to develop for one massive target than for 4 specific targets.

“Let alone 2 of the most well known MMO's in the history of MMOdom, that came out before the industry standard was to develop DLC for quick release after launchâ€
Granted these are two of the more well known MMos, but that was for ease of research. If I had chosen only obscure titles you could’ve turned this around and said, “Well, that’s only true of those rare examplesâ€. Suffice to say, I don’t believe using those two is unfair and if you look at all the other released MMOs I don’t think those two examples are a misrepresentation. As for your second point, remember that it wasn’t much different for PCs and that broadband internet became accessible and utilized for PCs around the same time as consoles. Also, you used to have to go buy expansion discs for a PC game, not download them and those expansions usually were significant and infrequent in order to justify the cost of purchasing another disc. DLC (with the D in that acronym being quite literal) happened for PC games around the same time as consoles.

“Then there is the problem about install times, disk numbers, HD space, across 4 different consoles. Even if optimized for only one console, it would never reach the ability to do what could be done with a PC.â€
And yet Destiny is coming out for PC. If anything, they should be developing for PC and then reducing down for consoles and then optimizing each platform. Optimizing for a console and then porting to PC would be bad for anyone who purchased Destiny for the PC. It’s always easier to reduce than to add on to or up-res. Chances are that the current-gen versions were “developed" by automating mesh and texture reductions as well as animation and sound compression from the next-gen versions meaning that the “bulk†of the work for the PS3 and 360 would be disc optimization.
But just go to over the things you brought up: install times don’t matter, but install size does. Usually you need to fit a significant portion of your game into a 3-5GB file so once the user downloads that, they can start playing the game regardless of how long it might take to install all that data (let alone the rest of the game). However for a disc, this doesn’t matter. Disc numbers also don’t matter since almost every game these days is required to fit on one Blu-Ray disc. Otherwise, where and how to split is usually pretty obvious and not a big hold up (general code/assets go on both discs and the rest goes on whichever disc calls it). Finally, hard drive space is inconsequential. To put it another way, why would a developer care if you have enough hard drive space on your specific console if their game fits on the disc the publisher/console marker told them to make it fit on?

“Destiny will also not compete against MMO titles. It will compete against FPS's, and therefore be subject to the same marketing and advertising practices that FPS get, and that is insanely quick DLC release times.â€
Would a fairer comparison be then to games like PlanetSide, Tribes, or Defiance? All of which are persistent online multiplayer FPSs that didn’t release DLC as quickly as Bungie is preparing to do for Destiny.

“I am not suggesting that it is in anyway right, just that the changes in the way the gaming industry, specifically console gaming, market and advertise require these actionsâ€
I think you are making excuses specifically for Destiny in order to get it to fit into your argument. I don’t think any of what they are doing is “required†nor does it warrant changes in marketing, advertising, etc… I think their game is lacking and this is their attempt at rectifying that without admitting that they lack content or compelling gameplay.

    • SackDangles

Ok, I think you misunderstood what I said about feeling that content is held back, not that it actually is. It's more like feeling someone is watching you, when no one is. I fully agree that there are no people behind the scenes wringing their hands together, twisting their staches, planning to pull content.... and if you want to get into a discussion over how better advertising and marketing could overcome this "feeling" I really welcome it, as I find marketing and advertising practices quite interesting, and something that could be better in the gaming industry.

I agree that it shouldn't be the case, but it is, and comparing a PC based true MMO, to a Console based FPS with RPG elements pretending to be an MMO, ( I do not buy that it is a real MMO, when Bungie talks about limiting player count in playspaces to a low number) released across two generations of console tech, is a bit unfair. Let alone 2 of the most well known MMO's in the history of MMOdom, that came out before the industry standard was to develop DLC for quick release after launch. Then there is the problem about install times, disk numbers, HD space, across 4 different consoles. Even if optimized for only one console, it would never reach the ability to do what could be done with a PC. Destiny will also not compete against MMO titles. It will compete against FPS's, and therefore be subject to the same marketing and advertising practices that FPS get, and that is insanely quick DLC release times.

I am not suggesting that it is in anyway right, just that the changes in the way the gaming industry, specifically console gaming, market and advertise require these actions. I am totally against the season pass idea, but if they are bundled in the LE's ( which seems to be SOP now ) then people have already purchased the pass with the LE, and now Bungie is obligated to let those consumers know what they are purchasing, or when it will be available to them.

      Just to clarify:
"sometimes a Dev purposely left content out for DLC draw"
This happens far less than you think. In other words, the term "sometimes" is an overstatement, but yes, this does happen.

"but I also feel that Destiny is a bit of a rare case, and needs quickly released DLC to keep people engaged in both the PvE and PvP elements of the game"
This should not be the case. A well built MMO, which is essentially what Destiny is, should have enough content to keep a player interested for a solid year if not longer. WoW came out in 2004 and didn't get an expansion until 2007 and EverQuest came out in March of 1999 and didn't get an expansion until a full year later in April of 2000. The fact that Destiny "needs" DLC that soon is not a good sign and a definite red flag.

"there's usually a chunk of time after the game is "finished" but before it ships where they can't add anything to the disc anyway, so they have some time to work on the DLC"
Kinda. I have no idea what you mean by "finished" since developers don't really use that term except when discussing a specific milestone. However, I think by "finished" you mean art and gameplay complete. After that date, which is usually shortly after you have an approved Beta build, you are usually just working on Certification submission so while you might have some artists and game designers freed up for DLC, the vast majority of your engineering/programming team will still be working on Certification and optimization. This is why usually your first DLC (and possibly the ones after it) is using the same code base as your original game because you have no engineering support to add truly new stuff or it takes a long time before DLC because no one was able to be freed up.

    • markopalumbo

I agree. And if I recall correctly, there's usually a chunk of time after the game is "finished" but before it ships where they can't add anything to the disc anyway, so they have some time to work on the DLC. Between that and the fact that the DLC is coming out three months after the game, I don't think this is too aggressive a DLC push. Besides, Bungie has built up some good will with me. I'm gonna give them the benefit of the doubt.

    • SackDangles

I also think Ryan is jumping the gun a bit with calling out the expansion. I agree fully with Meg about feeling that sometimes a Dev purposely left content out for DLC draw ( H4) , but I also feel that Destiny is a bit of a rare case, and needs quickly released DLC to keep people engaged in both the PvE and PvP elements of the game. If the Beta is anything to go by, people will probably max out by the end of Sept/Oct. If it's true that there is only one Raid at launch, Bungie is going to have to do something to keep the PvE elements from getting stale with the Hardcore Destiny players.

    • SackDangles

Yeah.....Sadly, many feel that the pre order, IS them paying for something, ( even though they don't have a product, and still have the ability to get the money back) therefore they ARE owed something.

Of course they don't look at the actual statements by Developers, or use reading comprehension. So when it is stated that people are "invited to emulate the final forms of their Guardians", some don't understand that emulate is not the same as create......Or that the only thing we were ever actually "promised" was a nameplate for playing at a specific time.

    • markopalumbo

The thing that bugs me is that people are complaining about something that didn't cost them any money. Like, I get it that they spent time on the game and want their progress to carry over, but this was a free thing that they're lucky to have gotten at all, and yet they complain that it wasn't good enough.
