Regarding only multiplayer: Battlefield started as a only multiplayer game. It had campaign mode, but that was nothing. Just multiplayer in a single player experience. Titanfall does something similar. And up to Battlefield 2142, the best BF multiplayer game in my opinion, which also featured awesome mechs and revolutionized the multiplayer experience for me, there was no campaign. Bad Company campaign I couöd understand. But the BF3 and BF4 campaign are totally useless, a waste of time and effort. They put in campaign and give us a multiplayer ful of bugs and stuff that doesnt work. BF2142 was almost perfect. Awesome squadsystem and the fore mentioned mechs were awesome, like in Titanfall. I don't see it mentioned everywhere, what I don't understand. Titanfall is imo the game BF2142 could have been turned into, if the idea was further developed. And I love Titanfall for what it is worth.

Weighing in on the Titanfall Single/Multiplayer Discussion, Team Fortress 2 was released with just multiplayer and since the release they have not only added game modes, but they introduced a good back story through the comics and Meet the Team videos, there still isn't and probably won't ever be a single player campaign, but adding plot worked for Valve, and maybe it will work for EA/Respawn on the X-BoxOne and PS4

I'm a little surprised that some of the "bigger players" at RT have never heard of/seen HAWP. While HAWP being gut wrenching hilarious, they bring up good points on the gaming industry (character/game development and sexism in games to name a couple). Anthony's old "Rev Rant" videos are also worth watching. To anyone that has never heard of or seen HAWP I suggest you start ASAP.

had to go finally check out twitch plays pokemon cause this pcast was the 5th time, different source, hearing about it.
not gonna lie, having fun with it, but then too, I'm all for different ways of playing a game.
This is like a new age ouija board where you're spamming commands asking yourself "am I moving it?" when it starts going your way

Ashley 343 didn't ruin halo when they got control from bungi also story dlc that adds to the end of a story makes it hard to make a sequel for the people that don't buy dlc without huge plot gaps

I prefer DLC like borderlands 2, where it has it's own story, kind of a "side quest" feel, rather than being tagged onto the end of the game. It makes it so you can play it at any point throughout the game, and doesn't feel forced in like some stry based DLC

Perhaps the Space Nazis on the moon had enough time up there to build the transforms and they're all linked with Bioshock Infinite through some convoluted multiverse conspiracy theory...

With the talk of FTL and hearing about Gus' excitement for some games, I'd like to see someone at RT play some Dark Souls 2. I mean if no one there is interested in it then obviously its no big deal but I think it'd be interesting to see how the people at the office feel about it since the first game got almost no sort of coverage besides Rage Quit. I could see some cool achievement or strategy videos from AH coming from it and I think it'd be funny to hear their stories about how frustrating or bull it was to get it.

"Something that doesn't necessarily speak well for the future of Bioshock."
Why would this be any different than when 343 took over Halo from Bungie, Capcom made a few handheld Zelda games, Treyarch made the Black Ops series (as well as some other COD games), The Chinese Room made the second Amnesia game, etc...?

Bioshock 2 was fine. From a technical, gameplay, and artistic perspective it was just as good as the original. The multiplayer might've been a misstep, but, personally, I think the "horde" mode in Infinite was equally so. As for story, that's much more subjective and I'm not going to argue it because I wasn't a fan of the story of either Bioshock 1 or 2. All I could say was that I thought the story was and was told equally "well" in both games. And it's not like 2K has a tradition of ruining franchises or having bad studios. Sure, sometimes sequels suck, but then sometimes sequels made by the same developer suck too. In short, I don't believe there is any good reason to think that it'll all fall to pot when a new developer steps in.

Bioshock 2 was great. I still don't get why you guys keep dogging it so much. It's sad to see Irrational close, but I don't see it as a bad thing for the series as long as it's with a team that maintains that same style and feel the franchise is known for.

Also, I had already had my eye on The Order of 1886, but Gus' description just made it all the more enticing. :P

At any rate, and although this is probably entirely subjective, a game is played, as opposed to watched, not because of the world or the story writing, but because of the actual mechanics. Bioshock 1 and Infinite's mechanics were weak compared to Bioshock 2, and if a game's mechanics are not a high point, then why even buy it or play it? Did you ever play Mario? Pretty bad and generic story, but people still like it, right? It's because of the mechanics. The gameplay.

How about early FPS's? Quake, Unreal? Story wasn't a focus. Yet people still enjoyed it because of the solid shooting (in a FPS), not the story. Again, this might be entirely subjective. Not everyone plays games for the exact same reasons. But there's one thing that ALL gamers have in common, and that is that the game they're playing is fun to PLAY, not watch.

But it was that inverted theme that made it such a great addition to the first one. The first game told a story about Andrew Ryan (objectivism) and Rapture's elite, while the second game had to do with Sophia Lamb (collectivism) and Rapture's people. I say people because most of the characters in Bioshock 2 really do seem like real people who would exist in Rapture and not just serve as a mouthpiece for some kind of ideology like in 1 and Infinite. Not that I had any problems with that in either of those games, but it was refreshing to have characters here who gave very real and human perspectives to this world, like Augustus Sinclair and Grace Holloway, who didn't sound like they were giving philosophy lectures.

In this case, the collectivist theme is used as a means to shed light on the poor and desperate of Rapture who despite Ryan's claims of a ideal society still wound up wound up at the bottom. With Ryan out of the picture, you can see why these people would turn their loyalty to a mother figure such as Lamb after all that had happened.

But what the story really is about, which sets it apart from 1 and Infinite, is that it's a much more personal story that's essentially about a father and his daughter. It's about a seemingly inconsequential character created from this environment and how his actions, either through mercy or malice, would go on to influence his daughter and determine what final legacy Rapture would leave for the world. It's different, but I don't see how all of this could be bad or lazy.

Tell you what. I know you probably have alot of other games on your plate as it is, but I still recommend giving Bioshock 2 another chance because it defiantly has alot more to offer than what you give it credit for. That along with Minerva's Den: easily one of the best DLCs of last gen.

My personal gripe with Bioshock 2 was that the narrative felt lazy. The gameplay was actually an improvement...it felt a bit tighter. But the story annoyed me to the point that I never finished it.

Bioshock was a big game for me, narratively, with its response to philosophies like Ayn Rand's objectivism. I mean, I only read Atlas Shrugged BECAUSE of that game (and was insufferable for about a week before I snapped out of it). Then in Bioshock 2, instead of exploring something new, they just said "well, since last time we explored absolute capitalism, if we do a complete 180 and just do socialism and our job's done! That's close enough to new, right?!"

Maybe it turned a corner at some point, but I was so disappointed I didn't bother seeing it out to that point.
