Ha I never noticed how superficial Meg is. Every time someone is mentioned she comments on their looks. Always positive though which is a nice thing I guess.

I really wouldn't say Bethesda has a track record of amazing Fallout DLC. In my opinion the best Fallout 3 DLC is still worse than the worst Fallout New Vegas DLC.

I used to respect Ryan, then he said Fallout 3 was better than New Vegas. smh

Fallout 3 was better if you didn't really know anything but that, it only had small connections to the previous games while still existing in the world. You wouldn't know the Maxon kid buried deep in the Citadel was related to the guy from the Brotherhood out West, but it didn't effect your playthrough. Same with the Tree in green grotto place....to most people without a history it's just a tree that has a face...to people with a history, well it was a damn moving questline with a very beloved character.

New Vegas was better for people who had a deep connection to the previous games, since it takes place out West and draws factions and some characters/relatives to characters from those games, and has more of a classic Fallout flavour. I guess I liked New Vegas better because of the fact that it had ALOT of people behind it that had a hand in the original games...and more of a connection with the West Coast Wastes.

On a mechanics basis, Fallout New Vegas was way better. It was deeper with weapons and ammunition, crafting and the Karma/Faction system was better than Fallout 3. Fallout 3 just became too easy once you hit the higher levels and had nearly every perk in the game and Max Stats.

On DLC, I liked New Vegas' better...Old World Blues is still the best piece of DLC I've played, by far. The writing, direction and feel of it was just so goddamned brilliant; it brought the Science! aspect of Fallout into focus and showed how different that universes concepts of science and such were different to ours....it was such a 50s Pulp vibe, and I loved it more than any other piece.

Fallout 3s was hit and miss. Point Lookout was the highpoint, Broken Steel was just pandering to the Oblivion players who whined that a game actually had an ending (despite how dodgy it was). Mothership Zeta was really meh, and The Pitt and Operation Anchorage were really average as well.

I loved Fallout, bought it like 3 times....but yeah, New Vegas was so much better....completely and utterly let down by an engine that had been dead for like 3 years. Put it in Fallout 4's engine and it would so goddamned amazing.

    Unions suck, period.

Any productions that I am working on at the present and in the future will not be doing things with any guild (voice actors, actors, writers ...). I'm pretty sure that the big studio could decide to be part of that, but a lot of them will look in-house for sure. You really think that out of the hundreds of people who work on AAA title, no one can do voice acting?

Gotta say the weapon mods and some of the new perks were cool in New Vegas however that seems to be the only reason i really play that game, the story was super boring and the game just felt hollow.

So where is all this extra Actor Pay coming from? EA, Activision, Sony etc aren't just going to eat extra loses. Its just going to passed on to gamers. Higher game prices or less acting. Would You pay $180 for Call of Duty with Mr.North in a SP you may not play. The fact is The game devs may want to increase the compensation as do the actors do. But the Largest Gaming Corporations are solely driven to make a Profit for their Shareholders higher actor cost means less profit. Gamers also don't have the attachments to a voice as The patch is projecting they connected to Characters. MSGV is fine without David Hayter. Splinter Cell fine without Michael Ironsides, Destiny fine without DinkelBot.

Hi Ashley Jenkins, Meg Turney and Ryan Haywood. I don't know if anyone else has commented on this but Fallout New Vegas is Incredible. I do know what Ryan was talking about, I made the mistake with Fallout 3, and missed everything outside the story and it ruined the game. But once i got back into 3 it was Just as good as New Vegas. New Vegas to me was much larger, so much so at points i decide not to seek out side stories, and just finish the main story. The DLC of both games are incredible.

Hold on a moment. If I understand this correctly, does that SAG also (want to) require for instance Lindsay Jones to get into the guild if she wanted to voiceact for RWBY Grimm Eclipse? Or isnt it that ridiculous?

    • TubaMatt Musician

That rule only applies to SAG-AFTRA productions. I'm not sure whether or not RWBY Grimm Eclipse falls into that category. Also, if what Meg mentioned is true, Lindsay would be able to work a couple SAG-AFTRA gigs before the guild pushes her to join or stop taking said gigs. There may be a deduction or two from paychecks to cover "dues", but that'd probably be it.

Ryan and Meg are like a close Brother and Sister. Anyway when playing Destiny: Taken King I did the First Xur engrams and got all year 1 stuff. Just this morning I bought Hawkmoon Year 2 from Xur, then got a primary weapon Exotic engram and got Year 1 Hawkmoon. So even after the update yesterday it is still prevalent.

    • CloneTrooper

Yeah....those weapon engrams were Legacy Engrams, they specifically give you Year 1 weapons, and not Year 2 ones. You were never gonna get anything new from them.

Exotic Engrams will always be prone to more double up than the others because the loot pool is so small anyway for them that you're more likely to get doubles

Tip from a production point of view. Try to refer to what you're talking about by name more often. I missed a word and for three minutes, 12:00 - 15:00 I had no idea you were talking about Hitman, because you only referred to the game as "it" and really didn't give many hints as to what "it" was other than a video game.

  • MoMisteries

I have to say, this was one of the most disappointing Patches I've seen. I get that there isn't much video game news, but even then, when they talked about things that are currently relevant, like Destiny, they really made it evident that they didn't know what they were talking about.

Also, the "I'm not advocating Unions" comment after advocating for unions for 10 minutes really lost me. That a person can record an afternoon's worth of lines, then get a massive payout because the game was successful is disgusting, in my honest opinion. there needs to be some refinement. I'm also the person with the opinion that people in entertainment make way too much as it is, when compared to teachers, plumers, electricians, and other people who make everyday life possible.

    • CloneTrooper

      Hahaha wow. Yeah....no.

The entertainment industry is like a microchosm of real life....those actors that earn millions of dollars...they're like the 1% of Wall Street/Entrepreneurs/CEOs etc. The majority of actors make barely enough to get by and sometimes dont know where the next paycheck is coming from.

And also, its not always an afternoons work.....Fallout has like 110,000 lines of Dialogue and alot of it the main characters because they are voiced now. Destiny showed that there is talent behind what these people do. Dinklage is a great actor, but he fell flat for whatever reason...then you look at Nathan Fillion who knocked it out of the park with what little he had, and then in Taken King....made the character even better.

Look at Nolan North who went and re-recorded a whole games worth of dialogue for Ghost in Destiny, on top of all the new stuff. These guys bring the characters to life....otherwise they'd all be mute and everything would be dialogue bubble based. They deserve more of a share of the profit pie.

Workers need protection and appropriate compensation, people seem to be concerned that compensation may not be appropriate or un-balanced, that's an unreasonable concern to suddenly dismiss the idea that compensation is required. i'm sure companies that are evil *cough* EA *cough* Konami *cough* would not want to compensate if they didn't have to, but other companies would see compensation as a sign of success. I wouldn't be surprised if Valve or bethesda or the other cool guys supports discussion on this topic. hypothetically, if i had a company i'd hope i would get to the point that i would be able to compensate my assets, a union dictates the correct approach to that end. I'm certain Nolan North has a the means to have legal representation during his contract negotiations. whereas a 19 year old waiter does not. If a game reaches the classification dictated as "a block buster game" then compensation is due. Now I agree with Ryan that it may not be as straight forward as traditional media entertainment, like screen. Production of an indie game can be ad-hoc, so sudden success could burden the creators in a way where compensating workers requires support, it should be if an indie class game reaches "block buster" the union should provide support for ALL parties. That's why SAG receives fees, to provide, not to profit... in theory anyway.

Voice Actors should have their own union. They could call it the Voice Actors Guild, or VAG for short. On second thought, maybe they should stick with SAG.

49:28 "I'm not avocating for unions"

Sorry Meg, your argument over the past 10 minutes says otherwise. There's a reason why most anime voice acting is done in non-union states. When SAG (screen actors guild) gets it's hands into stuff that isn't live action movies or tv, the production companies most of the time just move shop. The only problem with that is a lot of the US game devs are in California which is the heart of SAG.

It's the legacy exotic engram in Destiny that is more likely to give you items you don't already have, not the regular one

    • CloneTrooper

Regular Year 2 ones were doing it as well, it was all over the Bungie forums. I bought like 10 engrams first week and had alot of doubles of Helm of Inmost Light and Saint-14 from them, because they were in my inventory I then got more of them from the engrams.

The problem is that the Exotic Loot pool is so small as well, so you're more likely to get doubles anyway

Regarding the voice actor union dispute: How much of the cost of the additional accommodations will be foisted upon consumers? I highly doubt AAA game publishers will give up their ridiculously bloated marketing budgets to provide the proper compensation for VAs and will instead place the burden upon us to purchase microtransactions or ridiculous DLC to foot the bill

    • Burnt2Shreds Metal Gear

I'm not really sure what my comment included to warrant me being declared a noob. I'm just considering how the current big-name game developers and publishers heavily defend the current status-quo of the heavily-marketed big-budget AAA $60-price-tag game and what they would do to keep that way while at the same time providing the compensation that voice actors are asking for.

Bioshock 2 was still a great game besides just Minerva's Den. For me, it had a more personal story, better developed characters, and improved gameplay over the first game. Not only that, but it added to the mythos of Rapture in a very positive way. Also, the game had a 87 on Metacritic so I don't see how that makes it unanimously bad. Weakest in the series perhaps, but a bad game automatically?

Also, I noticed Ashely didn't like Bioshock 2 for "exploring a different philosophy" and yet that's exactly what Infinite did albeit with a different setting. At least in 2 the characters felt more human rather than simply being a personification of a particular ideology, which was the case for the majority of characters of 1 and Infinite.

I strongly agree with everything you just said. While the team behind it wasn't Ken Levine's (I feel like he's been a bit idolized as of late), they managed to improve upon so many of the the original game's mechanics and added new ones as well. The story was damn respectable, and I loved the ARG that they had for the game beforehand called Something in The Sea. Mark Meltzer was a cool character and the way they added him to the game was brilliant

If the Hitman Silent Assassin mission is the one I'm thinking of then you don't shoot randomly you listen to Diana who gives you clues like he doesn't drink or he smokes or he's bald which enables you to work out who the target is. In my opinion the new Hitman with lots of options sounds exactly like the Hitman series (excluding Absolution, the less said about that the better) and nothing like Assassin's Creed (admittedly I've only played Black Flag, which I understand with the pirateyness is a little different to the rest of the series).

All the brilliant setting ideas you have for Bioshock (which sound awesome, don't get me wrong) don't actually mean anything to me unless the story is there and, with that story, the social commentary and breakdown. What Ken Levine was spectacular at doing was not just game design, but looking at extremist ideologies and picking them apart.
