Can I ask somethingl? Ryan, Meg, Ashley, Gus, I really do like this podcast. For me, it's always good to know about the video game industry from different perspectives, which is what this podcast brings. And I do love how you incorporate the trademark Rooster Teeth humor, since, well, this is Rooster Teeth.

However, sometimes I feel as though you guys don't always give enough input on certain topics of discussion, like if something ethically ambiguous happens with a developer or a business model, you will talk about it, but I feel as though you won't always give it the most serious or insightful attention or deserves. This isn't a slam on your knowledge of the games industry; you all are very experienced and know quite a lot. But I always notice that most of these conversations just devolve into " This happened, we all generally agree in our thoughts, end discussion or make snarky and witty comments".

Again, I don't hate the show, and you four gel so well. But I just wanted to ask as a fan if perhaps you could in future podcasts give more thoughts on what you think on certain aspects of the games industry and culture, and about its short & long term effects and how it places in our society. I think it's important that people hear these ideas.

    Thanks, guys. Keep it up!

The idea behind Primal is intriguing, but the Far Cry Name tacked on to the title is a little unnecessary to me.

I also thought of something else related to the teleportation system. People that used it all the time would shorten their telomeres on their DNA, bringing on cellular degradation at a faster rate than usual. It's literally forcing all your cells to copy themselves, whether it's really time to or not. Sure, it'd be a great way to save time, but even if you cloned perfectly every time, you'd still age abnormally fast. I don't know if the trade-off would be worth it.

In Star Trek there is a temp data buffer that holds a person's pattern as computer code. The cells are not copying themselves. Your body is being destroyed at the beginning of teleport and re-assembled atom by atom at the end. Therefore no cellular degradation is occurring. (sidenote) In Destiny your "Ghost" appears to have a permanent pattern at hand... Allowing you die and respawn without any problem.

Hearing Gus talk about his thoughts on teleportation and cloning and stuff makes me think he'd really enjoy SOMA, since it does a really solid job examining the implications of creating multiple 'you's. The Patch should just play it anyway because it's such an insightful game

The other thing to remember about the Destiny Microtransactions is that you dont purchase the emotes with real money, you have to by "Silver", which you then use to purchase the emotes....and whatever else they end up selling.

I think that's where they can make more money than just $40 expansions...because more people might buy $10 - $15 worth of currency, once there's more things to buy, and they will end up spending the $40 they would've on an expansion on cosmetic and vanity items...and most likely, more than that over the course of the next year.

If they bring Ships, Shaders, Emblems, Sparrows as well....then have packs with each of the things in them....then it will definitely get people to purchase "Silver" packs to get stuff.

I mean people, including me, bought shit for their Xbox Avatars....they'll definitely do it for game characters they're investing so much time in. Bungie just need to make sure that if they do bring in the other things to the store, that they balance it out with new Ships, Shaders, Emblems etc that are obtainable through the RNG system for free so there is a balance and people don't feel like they HAVE to buy Silver to get cool cosmetic stuff.

Goddammit Ryan stop saying each letter in FOB! Pronounce it like a word.

No one in the military does that and it makes you sound like a tool and a kunt.

A few things. a fob is something like a passkey, a car remote, or those dumb "club cards" you get at the store. An FOB is an acronym and is acceptably said F-O-B as well as "fob." Name-calling and profanity have no place here. Go to YouTube if you want to be angry about inconsequential things.

Paleontologist DO NOT STUDY EARLY HUMANS, Archaeologist DO STUDY EARLY HUMANS.

Get your facts correct. As an accademic I take great insult when people use the wrong field of study to describe either.

You are correct, although the fact that you made one grammatical/phrasing mistake and three spelling mistakes in a three-sentence comment makes me somewhat skeptical of your claim to academic credentials.

As a palaeontologist I don't actually care. The lines between the two get a bit muddy when we're talking about human fossils and their lives/ecology. I guess in the context of quivers and weaponry, it is technically archaeology (or anthropology), but honestly it's nice to have it talked about at all rather than being grumpy gatekeepers of our science fields to non-scientists. It's like how the Jurassic films are starting points for palaeo: it's not entirely accurate (especially JW, my god) but it's a great jumping off point to say "hey, you know what's really cool? THIS AWESOME FACTOID". Taking "great insult" (and taking the elitist academic standpoint) is not the way to get people to listen to you.

I feel like the word "microtransactions" has become so negative that we automatically assume that it'll be a game-killer whenever they are implemented.

In this case, I don't think it's a bad thing--if it's handled properly. Right now, Bungie/Activision is saying that all purchasable items will be cosmetic, and that the proceeds will translate into free DLC so that everyone can enjoy all the content (and the social/community aspect will be stronger). I was listening to a popular Destiny streamer while engram farming a couple days ago, and many of the people in the chat (obviously Destiny players as well) seemed on board with this particular iteration of microtransactions. Shaders, emotes, ship shaders, maybe the chance to change character appearance--like a new Awoken face-tattoo, or a few cool hairdos--all sound like good ideas. I'd pay a buck or two for some ship shaders--all these new blueprint ships are poop-brown (perhaps awaiting your purchasable color application).

That being said, the second they add purchasable currency other than Glimmer (motes or Strange coins), it will break the game, absolutely ruin the Destiny community, and drive the game into an early grave--indeed, what is the game in its purest form? It's the quest for better loot that brings us back. Please don't use this as a gateway to "pay-to win," Bungie...don't you dare.

    • CloneTrooper

As long as it stays Cosmetic, it will be win-win for everyone. Bungie knows this, and its the better option for the revenue stream that Activision so desperately want from all their games.....I've bought avatar gear for my Xbox avatar in the past, and I'll definitely buy ships, shaders, emotes, emblems if they're good.

Like everything, Microtransactions can be good or bad. As long as they dont effect the meta or balance, and arent required to progress, then its all about player choice.

The only problem with all of it is the Destiny community gets salty as fuck about every little thing possible these days. Just look at the whole Sleeper Simulant thing....they're blaming Bungie for the fact they all went nuts and went down the rabbit hole, all by themselves.
