It was nicer when broadcast would show us what the cast sees on the screen instead of getting cast reactions for something we can't see... we see they're just looking at a screen.

Edit: Only made note of it happening recently on occasion.

There we go again with the trophy hate. Seriously the same fuckin thing! I get its Achievement Hunters but why all the hate? Sad thing is I probably have more completed games and more games played with my trophies than they do with achievements :P

I agree with adam on searching for an MMO, I tried all the recent ones that came out Blade and Soul(NA) and Black Desert, both were really meh. The only MMO I think that's fun was Final Fantasy XIV, but not all my buddies have the time or money to sink in 15 bucks a month. I know we put in alot of time in Guild Wars 2, but the game doesn't really have a fun end game. Here's hoping a good MMO comes out of the woodworks in the near future.

I remember them mentioning it a couple time around its initial release, or even during its firs beta's, but it seems none of them have played it. I would have expected Gus or Ryan to have done so at some point but it seems they have not.

Yeah I remember them saying something about it now aswell, it's a shame really, as No Mans Sky which I haven't played yet just seems like an indie copy of another game that was in development for just as long that gave us the same sort of impression of un-countable worlds and meeting friends however Elite Dangerous actually delivered that from the start.
I'm hoping Gus or Ryan pick it up and maybe do some stuff with Lets Plays or Lets Watches.

The started the podcast saying they wouldn't spend the whole hour talking about No Man Sky, but 20 minutes in it's literally all they've talked about, with no sign of stoping anytime soon. It'd be one thing if it were some awesome amazing thing, but every single person I've heard talk about it just complains that there's not actually anything to do. It just seems like a tedious and boring "collect stuff and fly in space sometimes" simulator. I doubt I'll ever buy the game, so hearing about nothing but it for a second week is just ...ugh.

When Adam talked about the base building tethering you to small areas in the live stream, I had an idea of a way to prevent it. You can build more then one base as long as it's far enough away from an old one, and they're all linked sort of like the banks in WoW. It seems like it'll solve the problems that could come about from it.

The first 5 hours of NMS was pretty fun. Exploring and seeing awesome planets made me really enjoy the game.

That's around the time I realized that my next 5 hours would be no different than the last. The game feels dead an lonely and I am having a hard time finding reason to start it up again.

@dressthatpart if we're talking about a first person exploration game that allows you to get in your ship and fly from planet to planet, even ED:Horizons doesn't quite fill those shoes. Not saying there's anything wrong with exploring with a vehicle or anything like that, but the first person exploration > spaceship dynamic is still unique to NMS as far as I know.

    • Colossus1921 FIRST Member Star(s) Indication of membership status - One star is a FIRST member, two stars is Double Gold

@Gilby I agree with you that they aren't identical, but I feel like there are enough similarities that people who weren't huge fans of NMS may enjoy ED

    • dressthatpart

@Gilby ED is indeed limited in its own ways but as far as I can tell it delivers a deeper, more solid game in a lot of similar aspects compared to NMS like space travel, space combat, even the economy. Then it has things NMS doesn't like actually having multi-player where you can interact with other players and the complex political system. Plus its being added to all the time like the upcoming 2.2 update that adds small ship launched fighters available for large enough ships and other features.
Of course we'll see where each game goes in the future but currently I'm sticking with ED myself.

@dressthatpart oh i'm totally interested in checking out E.D. unfortunately I keep getting mixed messages saying that it's really dry, or that you have to pay to land on planets etc. But it looks gorgeous. Once they add the multiplayer stuff in where you can make a squad, I'll probably hop in.

    • Colossus1921 FIRST Member Star(s) Indication of membership status - One star is a FIRST member, two stars is Double Gold

@Gilby you can already join wings with your friends. There are occasionally some instancing issues, but they get worked out pretty quick. If you were talking about having multiple people in the same ship, that's supposed to be coming later this year (or maybe early next year because the dev is a little behind on their timeline). To land on planets, you have to buy the expansion pack, Horizons. There aren't micro-transactions every time you try to land on a planet.

There are micro-transactions in the game, but they're just for vanity items like paint-jobs, bobble-heads, and aesthetic changes to your ship.

Funny thing is there is a way in NMS to actually stack those trade commondities, and certain building materials. If you deconstruct a blue print, say a multi tool upgrade or a beam upgrade from a ship, at that Blue Print needs a trade commondity to build it, it will give you the trade item that you can stack up to 100. So for example since they were talking about vortex cubes, while I was ship hunting I decunstructed a broken gun on a new ship and I got a vortex cub that I could stack up to 100. I found a vortex cube planet and I sold a stack of 100 vortex cubes for about 2.5 million units and it only took me about 15 minutes.

Re: NMS; I pretty much agree. It's an unfinished but interesting game with great potential, but in dire need of the rest of the stuff they promised. However, there are a number of things I think should be pointed out:

Dump most everything all the time. Keep the basics, like a stack of Plutonium and Thaumium, and the rare elements. Then, just gather what you need to make a specific recipe. There is no other use for that stuff than those few recipes, so it's just eating your room.

Finding drop pods is easy, and no: There aren't 2 or 3 per planet, it's more like 2 or 3 THOUSAND. Find a relatively flat and barren planet ( so it's easy to see things ), and just fly around. On average, you'll find one ever 30 seconds to a minute or so. ( Random does mean they are often clumped, and there are often dry spells. ) Max slots is 48 with the last purchase costing 350,000. The scanner stuff is only good for a bit, then seems to stop tracking new things. ( This happens with everything, such as ships. When you first check, you'll tend to get a lot, then less and less, often sending you back to where you have been. )

Ryan: There aren't really "tiers" in game, in that you can get any quality at any time. However, there is "Sigma", "Tau" and "Theta" for everything, and there are 2 ultra-rare "Omega" recipes. Then there's all of the products ( alloys, shield shards, etc. ) which are obtained from the factories and such. ( This is where you get Atlas Pass V2 and V3, both ultra-rare. V3 will open V1 and V2 doors, though oddly not V1 canisters. The only use for these really is the V1 station door with the exosuit upgrade. The contents in these rooms is currently trash, like carbon. )

Buildings are not randomly generated, just their location and which one. They have specific simple designs. I've never once found one without a door, or heard anything about it on Reddit for example.

( Adam started to mention this, but got side-tracked. ) Crashed ships is THE way to upgrade your ship. It's only 1 slot at a time, but it actually pays you to do it. Always break down everything you can on your ship to get half of the resources back. Then, just repair Launch Thruster and Pulse Drive. Resume looking for crashed ships. Depending on luck, you can get the max 48 slot ship in a few hours, or if you're like me and rather unlucky, 2 days:( Still, a 48 slot ship costs around 150 million, so even with a no sentinel, vortex cube planet with a station paying double...it would take 10 times as long to max out by buying. ( Downside is that's basically the only thing to spend money on. I constantly am just buying resources out of laziness, and my money is still going up without farming anything. )

Ash: Photon cannon auto-aims, so it's even easier than the Phase Beam. No need to point at the tracking triangle. ( Even when pointed right at the triangle, it will often miss due to the auto-aim. )

Adam: There absolutely is a trick to space combat. It's a lame one though. Just go full reverse. The AI will fly straight at you, and can usually be killed before they even hit you. ( Basically, because they are flying towards you and photon cannon has travel time, while you're flying away from them, you are in range a lot sooner than they are. Beam also has a lot shorter range than the Cannon, negating its hitscan. ) Also, there will be giant red rings indicating where an enemy is warping in, so you can ambush them instead of them ambushing you.

That thread on Reddit wasn't entirely accurate. Most of it was, but it was later updated to point out that a number of the things actually did make it in. It was just minor things though I believe. The major missing stuff does indeed appear to be missing. One questionable here though is the Portals. They can be found, but they aren't on. It's unknown if there is something that needs to be done to activate them, or if they just aren't ready yet. ( Specifically, where the portal would be in the structure, it just isn't there. )

Faction standing doesn't matter. It takes like a dozen increases or so to max out, and there's just the 3 factions. ( BTW: Special Partner makes more sense once you understand more about the Gek. They're a trading based species, so it's basically "Special Business Parter", and means you have maxed out with them. Vy'Keen are warriors, think Vikings. Korvax are sentient AI. )

Pirating freighters is easy. Space Sentinels have aggro issues, and don't get much stronger. It's just 1, 2, 3, then 4 ships, finally, 1 cruiser. The cruiser doesn't move, so it's easy to avoid if you can't take it head on. 4 ships is pretty weak. Add in that I was actually trying to purposefully get 5 stars and fight the cruiser...took me 3 tries, and on the 3rd time when the cruiser arrived: I shot at it for a second or so and it warped out and I lost my wanted level. I was actively trying to increase it, and still lost it!

There are 2 big issues with space pirating though: You can't scan cargo, so you have no idea if it's just another junk one, or something more valuable. Then, the cargo despawns REALLY fast. Like 15-20 seconds fast. I attacked a pod, turned and killed the 1 sentinel in a few shots, turned back, and the cargo vanished right in front of me.

Adam: There's more like 20 things, in something like 9 types, falling in the 4 categories. They definitely need to work on this though.

Minecraft launched at the same price it is today. It might have been cheaper before it actually launched, but that was the beta/preorder phases. ( That listed for years. ) That's still less than half what NMS is though. If they'd even gone just $50, it would have been a big difference. $60 though puts it up against AAA blockbuster titles with 500+ people working on it. Imagine 15 people building a car in their backyard, then charging $350,000+. Of course it's going to be compared to a Lamborghini, or Ferrari, etc.

Ryan: There's still a number of goals. Getting to the center, maxing out ship, maxing out exosuit, maxing out multi-tool and finished all of the Journey milestones.

Massive pro-tip: Upgrades of the same category have an adjacency bonus. Ideally, you take your highest quality one, and surround it by the lower ones. Also, dump the boltcaster entirely. Laser beam rocks, and boltcaster takes up a ton of upgrade slots. Also, railshot is also a very powerful beam upgrade.

Final pro-tip: If you break down something that has an item that is not stackable, it will create a stackable version of it. Such as vortex cubes stacking to 100:)

Wow, that ended up being a lot bigger of a wall of text than I realized. I'll attempt to TL;DR it:)

      1. Resources are really vendor trash.
      2. Drop Pods: Just fly around to find dozens.
      3. Ryan: I'll bet you're still missing plenty.
      4. Builgings not random.
      5. To upgrade ship, use crashed ships not buying.
      6. Photon Cannon auto aims.
      7. Space battles: Just reverse.
      8. Faction standing: You're all maxed.
      9. Pirating: Easy but not worth it.
      10. Price: Too damn high!
      11. Ryan: There are more goals to go.
      12. Upgrades have adjacency bonus.
      13. Break down items to get stackable versions.

The weird part about Lightning modelling isn't that its a fictional character. I mean, that's a little weird, but fictional characters modeling something isn't dumber than girl-you've-never-heard-of modeling something and just as fictional in how well it fits you. What's weird is.... is there any aspect of Lightning's character that says she'd be looking to model stylish clothes? We're talking about someone who basically went to medieval armor in the second game. Put her next to a car, or holding a gun, or recruiting for some profession or something along those lines, makes total sense. But style?

Also, fish is Italian slang for penis, so that's even more hilarious.

The new Metal Gear game is basically going to be a survival horror game with zombies? And people seem to be losing their shit over this. This isn't the first time that the MGS series has taken a hard right turn, remember Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance? And are zombies really that much of a stretch, considering this game has had vampires, zombie-like parasite soldier, flaming super humans and mind-control limbs? Don't get me wrong, this title doesn't get me excited, MGS games generally do nothing for me but fans shouldn't be this upset that their series has taken another turn off the rails.

This is the third Metal Gear game to not involve Kojima. That's true. But even being logically connected to the story, Snake's Revenge and Revengeance did terribly. Suck out everything that makes it Metal Gear except the most mainstream motif, and I don't see how it can be counted as part of the series.

I think the problem most Metal Gear fans have with this new game is that it's clearly a lazy attempt by Konami to repair their image or lure scorned fans back.

The zombies do not bother me. New gameplay doesn’t really bother me (after all, I played Metal Gear Acid). What bothers me is that this game has nothing to do with Metal Gear. Why call it Metal Gear at all? It is kind of like how Alone in the Dark fans were upset over Alone in the Dark Illumination, a co-op game where you try and light everything up (so you are neither alone, nor in the dark).

Frankly, it is disrespectful. This just seems like a cash grab with the Metal Gear label. The anger probably would have been muted if Konami had not had a history of pulling this kind of shit. They have destroyed the trust and goodwill of their fans and now we are lashing out … with negative YouTube comments and downvotes. I think they will survive. They just will not get a sale from me.

Do I think this is a cash grab; absolutely. Do I think this game is really a Metal Gear game; no. I am just saying this isn't the first time the series took a hard turn off the traditional rails which is what most fans of the series I know seem to be complaining about.

Ashley is wrong about Augments and it is a logical fallacy to equate augs to guns. Some augments are for purely practical and helpful purposes. Lose a leg, get a new one! It’d be like discriminating against people with prosthetic limbs and forcing them to live separate from everyone else.

The funniest thing to me is that a lot of the discrimination comes from “normal” people and many retaliatory strikes carried out by augments are exactly that. People afraid and oppressed lashing out. Like bullying someone and then when they finally hit back saying “You see what this crazy person did to me?”
