I agree with Ryan, racing for real is totally different from racing "remotely", but the only way I can justify my point is that I can watch a ton of underwater videos of sunken ships and giant Morey eels, but they are nothing compared to the real feel of being 200' deep. I guess the element of really being there, with all the dangerous stuff, and knowing you could die if you mess up are the factors that make it unique and irreplaceable.

I love my racing games, love racing in general. Racing is in my blood.

Sometimes racecars make right turns in a race.  Those race tracks are called road courses.  The race track in Watkins Glen NY is an example of theses road courses.

Adam, I love you forever for bringing up Star Citizen!  And if the Gamescom demo got you hyped, just wait until you see CitizenCon.  It's only a week away and they'll be showing off procedural planets V2 plus a full mission from Squadron 42 (which is supposed to release at the end of this year but sounds like it will be pushed until quarter one of next year).  With the major technical hurdles finally behind them, the hype train is definitely picking up steam.

I was playing Star Citizen on Monday and guess who showed up in my game? None other than GilbyRanger himself! Didn't get much of a chance to play, because he got frozen in place, but it was cool to chat!

If Destiny 2 isn't a continuation of the story and goes back in time or something like that, I'll probably skip it.

The comment Ryan makes about the camera on the head issue isn't really accurate that it has been solved before. While yes there has been a lot of FPS games, they are not true First person and they are more or less tricks and basic faximilies to make it appear it works. Most FPS have a camera at chest high and it's not even remotely connected to a body at all. The closest game to this system is ArmA. Where by the camera is related to the head and you can track what a person is doing and it is 100% accurate to what they are doing (excluding lag). You can even use Track IR to move the head and it'll react to that perfectly (depending on how senstitive you make in order to make it work for you).

In SC they have to make it work within the game as it's attached to a physical body and moves with it. The problem they actually addressed was allowing that to happen and also not cause that distortion of the camera shaking. The idea is that they want it to also match what people see while also not being a faux system. That the player on both ends see the same thing, so if you are behind cover as you can see everyone else will see that as well. So the system as a whole is a lot more complex within the system they are using and the game engine as they are using it.

The idea is that you are shown exactly as you are, so if your gun is pointing at something it will be literally doing that and the shots will be direct there. This will allow a far more realistic FPS experiance, with possibly lending itself an ability to counter someones actions via reading their movements and being able to avoid being shot as well. It is similar in that way in ArmA where you can read an opponent and understand where they are aiming and generally be able to tell if they are going to be on you or off as such. This will be shown more in 2.6 with the release of the Star Marine as well as the current FPS module as we have been shown of late.

I think The Patch would appreacite this video, where they annotate the button presses made in a single race. It'll give you a kind of better view on what goes on with a driver and their adjustments mid driving at speeds up to 200 mph.

    http://sploid.gizmodo.com/video-annotates-all-the-buttons-that-are-being-pressed-1787222377

Also as per Adam saying when will there be F1 without drivers in the cars. I think highly unlikely, as F1 is constantly enforcing rules to make the race more interesting and removing the engineered solutions teams come up with to be better and faster than the rest. The idea being they don't want it to be too stale for the viewers, which has happened before with a lot of the assists and lack of overtakes for example. They even implimented tyres that will wear faster than normal to ensure there are pitstops and efforts made for a driver to not just burn through their tyres without consequence.

The history of the F1 race is always about the balance of risky and interesting tracks. With high safety standards and also interesting races. They will most likely never want a race where there is no actual risk for drivers as that would remove a lot of the reason it's so interesting for many of us.

Also F1 was never made slower because it wasn't safe. They had far faster cars because they had way too many assists that made them practically unbeatable with other cars that didn't have their systems. It still happens now to a degree, and rules will always be made to keep it more towards driver skill than just a much better car that anyone can drive better than the rest of the paddock.

Increasingly loving The Patch. I found this to be an informative and entertaining episode. Adam has me thinking now about diving into Elite Dangerous and building a battle-station "for my pre-teen/teenage boys" (cough) in advance of Star Citizen. Even if it's December 2017, that's a long window of fun with Dangerous.

Agree with Ryan, never caught the driving bug, beyond a little Burnout Paradise smash-n-crash for fun.

The way towns could work in Destiny is exactly how the story unlocks exploration and, in Rise of Iron, a new outpost. You get to a certain part of the story where you can clear the enemies out of this area, which means you now have access to this town in the game, while in the story you're the ultra super special person who made its foundation possible.

Yeah, Saturn sounds impressive, especially considering it's a gas giant and when you got to gas dense enough to walk on, you'd be crushed by the pressure  and unable to see. Sounds like whoever wrote this doesn't even know what Saturn is.

Star Citizen is already awesome!! It's a slight learning curve, but the community is helpful generally, and that can get you over it quick. You'll run into some alpha issues, but overall it is still a better experience than some AAA titles I have played! Between 2.5 and the gamescom 3.0 demo, my faith has been restored! I'm so excited for the future of it!

For example, some of the things available now in Star Citizen are:

Warping to, and eva-ing into massive com array satellites to restore the uplink, after fighting off the pirate ships who hijacked it.

Helping a stellar cartographer by finding beacons, assisting distress calls, evas to recover ship black boxes.

Investigating an abandoned shipping hub to find evidence that was covered up in its destruction.

Just in general chilling with a bunch of people as excited for the game as you are.

Becoming a pirate so you spawn at the secret pirate base and can buy a head scarf and graphic tshirts. Pirate missions, but I haven't stayed a pirate long enough to play them.

Hacking the system and fighting for your life against other players so you can stop being a pirate.

Tons of organic gameplay, from gmod murder or TTT inside a giant space station or starship (Starfarer Gemini) Sharing cool ships you or others have, getting to explore or watch people explore or use your ships.

Dogfights in space (There is an armistice zone around the starting station so there won't be griefers up the chuff, so you have to warp or fly away to fight.)

This isn't even touching on the Arena Commander section, which has organized competitive gametypes for ship to ship and soon FPS (Soon being October) These include:

      Racing

      Co op fighting alien ships

      Team Deathmatch

      Battle Royale

      Space football

It's by no means perfect, but as someone who backed on kickstarter and followed every step, lost faith when the first, glitchy alpha came out, nearly walked away, then came back, I can tell you: This game is space Skyrim, what I wanted Destiny to be, what people complained NMS wasn't, and it's the most beautiful game I have ever seen. Even in alpha!

Love Star Citizen, been a fan since I seen the intial video. Bought an Aurora right off the bat, and have been loving all the PU updates ever since. With that said 2.6 due soon and 3.0 eta around December. Would be great to get a RT grouping in SC.

In order to not crash an F1 car, you have to go really fast. The downforce is what keeps the car planted and gives it traction. If you don't go fast enough, you have no downforce. No downforce means not traction. No traction means that your are hitting a wall.

Yeah, personally just not into the game despite my friends being into it, but personally i think anything that encourages actually getting to know people through games is awesome. That's why i love RT and twitch, that's why people loved WOW. That can be the best thing about games.

There's no key in F1 cars, the mechanics have mobile starter motors for the grid, or pit lane in a red flag situation, the driver doesn't really do anything to get the car started, except maybe press a button/pull the clutch, you'd be screwed if you found one at the side of the road with no power, you'd get nowhere fast.

For Mercedes, there are over 2000 different settings, not all of them work together though.

Saying we should have remote racing is like saying we should have robots be matadors and have robot bulls pitted against them. I'm against bullfighting, I think it's barbaric, and I think NFL and racing is dangerous too. But that's what makes them entertaining and if you take away the danger there's no point.

So, for the WoW raid lfr system, basically it's reduced difficulty to the point where getting a few tards in your group doesn't even really matter.  When I last played it was "faceroll" difficulty.  The tradeoff is the gear drops were lower item level compared to normal difficulty.  Essentially, lfr let people experience the raide without needing to be in a dedicated raiding guild, while it let those in dedicated raiding guilds to have bigger challenges with better rewards.  I could see a similar system in Destiny 2 working as well.  Raid matchmaking would put you in a version of the raid that would be difficult to fail, but if you went in with an actual group(the current only way to do it), it would be much harder but with better rewards.

Doesn't mean that it will happen, but it's not completely out of the question.

Forza Horizon 3 on PC does support a racing wheel... I am using a Logitech G29, and it has also worked on Forza Motorsports 6 Apex for the PC.

it doesnt support all the wheels that any self respecting pc racing game supports though. for example the fanatec cswv2 which is THE forza branded official wheel. and it doesnt effing work. it still doesnt work in apex either.

If they had released multiple games on the PC already I would agree with you, but Forza Horizon 3 is their first full release on PC. I wouldn't necessarily call Apex a full PC release, its more like a demo to me and wheel support only came out less than a month ago. Hopefully we'll see more wheel support added through updates for your CSW V2 but for now I understand the small list. Forza Motorsports 7, if it also comes to PC, should and needs to have more wheels supported on release as its more of the "Sim-racer" in the series.

Google translate confirms it is pronounced "Fort-za"

    • TheAdmiester

I believe it's Italian for "force" so it makes sense that it has a harder Z like in Pizza, but just saying "Forza" is a lot easier IMO.

EDIT: And it turns out they had that exact discussion right at the start, lol.

    • DavidtheWavid FIRST Member Star(s) Indication of membership status - One star is a FIRST member, two stars is Double Gold

It annoys me to no end when people mispronounce Italian, considering every irregularity in the language is present in borrowed words and brand names like Pizza, Lasagna, and Gucci. So why anyone would ignore the G (Y sound when next to an N) in Gnocchi is just beyond me.

That being said, it really doesn't make sense the the Z in Piza is a soft Z, while it's a hard Z in Forza. Maybe a spelling change over time?
