You know it's Pok-E-mon and not Pok-EH-mon, right? I remember when some douche pointed that out to me in the most annoying way. I told him to go 'fuch' himself.

    FF1 is 1, 2 is 4, 3 is 6. Or if you're a normal person, you'll call them by the real numbers.

I got a physical copy and it only took 30mins or less to download everything for FFXV.

Not that I ever cared about that kind of stuff, but I feel like getting a sweater designed to be ugly would be cheating for the whole ugly sweater thing. Nevermind that the whole "so bad it's good" thing only works when it's unintentional. When something is actually trying to be so bad that it's good, it just ends up being god awful, abomination unto nature level shit. Thankskilling 3 comes to mind there...

    1. I love how Ryan turned into Joel when talking about his modem.

    2. I downloaded FF XV on 2 separate PS4 consoles and the game downloaded alongside its day one patch. In fact, PS4 automatically queues and downloads all patches for all games you have currently installed as long as you have it turned on. I think if you have your PS4 "activated" and have PS+ subscription, it may also do this in stand-by mode... but I don't so can't check.

Also, if your initial download was only 6GB, you have just downloaded the "ready to play!" part of the game to pass the time while downloading the rest. That part of the game is literally the area from the demo and fighting lvl 7 goblins until the end of time. A total waste of time.

I'm not trying to discard your bad experience Ashley, but since you have the ability to speak "to the people", I want to point out that yours was an isolated incident rather than a general, widespread problem. We're light-years ahead of PS3 PSN problems. When things like this happen, it sucks, but with layering and variable quality of network connections + network traffic, it is still to be expected these days, and might be for a while.

    3. Open world breaks the game a little bit. I'm in chapter 3, 8 hours in and I'm about to update my sword to Noct's Ultima Blade. I mean, sure you don't have to do that... but you can, you know? Engine Blade lvl. 3 is already super powerful and you can get it very soon after going on the ferry.

I feel like Ryan is a little unfair about the internet situation. They were able to offer someone to come out within 1-2 days from calling in? That's great! So many companies wouldn't have an available slot until a week or more to come out to check. It's pretty standard as well that you need to be present at your house when you have a tech head out. This is because they usually want to check both the inside connection and the outside connection. In addition to that, there are liability reasons for why you would not want the tech there when the owner/house member wasn't present (for example, being accused later of stealing something or damaging something).

So I do get why Ryan is frustrated, but I think he is being a little unfair to the company about it. If it's such a big issue, he should ask a friend if he could borrow a modem for a few hours to test -that will let him know if the issue is the modem or signal (kind of, there's more to the troubleshooting than just those two but it can help narrow things down).

English is one of the few languages where i has the sound we're used to. In most romanizations (Japanese in this instance), the i sound you're used to is a combination of a and i. A (as in father) and I (the long ee sound) ...so it makes sense for his name to be pronounced like that.

His name also pairs with Yuna's names. Their names are supposed to be references to the Okinawan words for Sun and Moon. Tidus is derived from Tida. (Which is his Japanese name). So Tidus (Tee-dus) would be a close approximation to the original pronunciation of his name.

Tidus is Teeda in Japanese though.

I got a physical copy of FF15 on ps4 day 1, had to do the day 1 patch, but it only took between 30-40 minutes. I'm certain that my internet is not as good as Ashley's or Rooster Teeth's. So I really don't know what happened with their copies. Maybe it was a digital thing only?

FF13 is one of the stronger entries guys. Stop dismissing it as 'eh, at least it was pretty'

That is both dumb and unfair.

EDIT: OH, NOW you are insulting it! Oh that's REAL nice. XC

It was strong because it was the only main series FF game last gen. I personally love the story, but the gameplay makes it nearly unbearable. You have to constantly grind wherever you are and can do nothing but press A in combat for the first several hours. The main battle mechanics aren't even introduced until halfway through the third chapter.

I didnt know that the ff Games in US were different from what were in Japan. All I know is the FF games I played all said 1,2,3 and 7. So I guess based on what ashly said I played ff1,4,5 and 7.

Not all in the US. Only if you played them on NES/SNES and/or Wii. If you played them on PS1, Windows, iOS (Which it sounds like, from your other comment), Gameboy, or DS, they were 1, 2, and 3. And the one known as FF3 is actually FF6, not 5.

They spent so much time talking about FF XV and it's combat system I was really surprised that they didn't mention Xenoblade Chronicles. It had the real-time aspect as well as excellent control of your other team members. Not just that, but it's due for another entry and would be a great title for the Switch to flex some power for.

Its like this episode was made out of things that would frustrate a 15-year old me - people being so confused about the FF numbering system, Charter fucking up my Internet, and waiting for hours as UO would apply patch after patch on a fresh install.

I do hope that Ryan calls into Off Topic tomorrow while he is burying the tech in his backyard.  I think it'd be worth a chuckle.

You know I really am liking Matt being on the podcast, mostly since he shares the same point of view on somethings since we're twenty something year olds. And don't worry Matt I watch the Vampire Diares too. Show got better when they left the twilighty first season and focused more on supernatural lore afterwards and the heart ripping helped too.

open world and hack and slashey combat was the smartest mistake they ever made, it might be a good game its just not really a final fantasy game.

There's more to Final Fantasy than the combat. Each one is vastly different. You can't say the combat isn't like Final Fantasy because Final Fantasy has done just about every other sort of combat, even down to third-person shooters.

Ryan, if you make an RT Life video about you waiting for the Spectrum/TWC guy to show up, you're technically not missing work. Though, I wouldn't recommend recording the part where you kill and bury the guy...

Not a fan of the aesthetic of FF15, but everything I've heard about it makes me want to play. And I've actually pulled the eject on Wath_Dogs on 2 even though I liked 1. Because I hate everything about 2's story.

Final Fantasy 1 is always FF1. 2, 3, and 5 weren't released on NES/SNES outside Japan so FF4 was 2, and FF6 was 3. That ONLY goes for Nintendo CONSOLES. It's correct on Gameboy and DS, and all later consoles including PS1, iOS, and PC.

After 7's release they ported the first 6 to PS1 in dual packs, except 3 was replaced with Chrono Trigger in North America. Origins: FF1+2, Chronicles: 4 and Chrono Trigger, and Anthology: 5+6. I believe Europe got FF3+4 in Chronicles. The real FF3 was not released in North America until the 3D remake for DS and PC, if I remember correctly.

And in Japanese Tidus is TEE-dah. I still say it's TIE-dus and the Japanese pronunciation shouldn't affect it, otherwise FF7 would be about Kuraudo Sutoraifu tracking down Sephiross. But Rinoa was supposed to be named Lenore but Rinoa sounds way more epic, so that argument is invalid. I've just settled for naming him Titus at the beginning of the game.

Thank you, the very first thing I did after the first three minutes of the podcast was pause it and go to comment explaining the FF numbering system. 1-6, are available as GBA ports, except 3, which was on the DS. Played all of them, loved most.
