Adventure games with really nonsensical puzzles... Grabriel Knight 3: Blood of the Sacred, Blood of the Damned. This one puzzle I won't ruin for anyone was just so stupid, eventually had to look up the solution and I just groaned.

I first played that back in my high school years and it's probably part of why I don't like survival horror as a genre to this day. Fortunately I started it on a Saturday, because I wasn't able to sleep until I finished it on Sunday, it creeped me out that badly.

It's on GOG for $6.00 if anyone's curious.

I have a question for next weeks post show: Have you ever played a game with some sort of moral choice that impacted you long after you put the game down?

For example, I still feel a bit of guilt about one of the choices I made while playing The Walking Dead Season 1, and I feel like the things that game made me think about really stuck with me.

Valiant Hearts' trailer was so good and so touching I can't play it because I can't take that emotional weight.

I always go back to any of the main series Halo games. The levels are small enough to just sit down, play for any length of time, and each one has that unique iconic moment.

My game I always go back to is The Last of Us. I've played the story at least thirty times and never get tired of it.

Playing Child of Light on hard difficulty was one of the best co-op experiences of my life. It looked interesting when it came out, but a description by someone who played on normal difficulty lowered my expectations and enthusiasm for it. I waited for a sale to get the game and ended up being incredibly impressed by everything about it (gameplay, art, music, etc)! While I doubt that the game would have stood out to me much on normal difficulty, the level of challenge on hard mode and depth to the battle system felt just right for my friend and me. I especially liked that it felt like quality teamwork where each person was accomplishing something and essential to success.

I have 4 fall back games for when the industry just isn't dropping anything that I want. Diablo3, StarCraft/SC2, League and Overwatch.D3 if I just want lazy dungeon crawling/item hunting. League and Overwatch for some competitiveness and StarCraft/Sc2 just for a great story that I love.

Love the Monkey Island series as well as the Phoenix Wright series. Good choices.

Along the lines of point and click games, I'll go back and play Broken Sword: Shadow of the Templars every now and then. The story of a US tourist getting caught up in an international conspiracy just hooked me and in turn sent me down a rabbit hole and got me into similar games (Runaway, So Blonde, Monkey Island, Secret Files)

If you're ever able to play Discworld, (based on Terry Pratchett's books) that's one of those games where bullshit puzzle solving was rampant.

I LOVE the Broken Sword games. I've played through them all multiple times on PC, and again when they were released as mobile apps. The Goat Puzzle from the first game is definitely up there as one of the most confusing puzzles I've ever encountered.

I helped back the Kickstarter for Broken Sword 5 and one of the rewards I was given was a goat USB. He's locked away in a drawer somewhere as punishment for that goddamn puzzle...

If I still had a working PlayStation, I'd go back to Romance of the Three Kingdoms 9 for the 30th time.

This probably is not the most nonsensical puzzle in gaming but it is the one that pissed me off the most. In Silent Hill 2 you come across a safe, and you need 2 keys and 2 combinations to open it. After traveling to hell and back over the course of several hours you finally can open the safe. When you open the safe you find … human hair. At which point you take the hair, combine it with a bent nail, and fish a key out of a drain. With that key, you can advance. Apparently, there is nothing else in that entire hospital you can combine to fish that key out. Not to mention, I have to wonder, who in the hell put that much effort into locking away some hair? Or better yet, whose hair was it? Did I use a holy relic to fish a key out of a drain?

Phoenix Wright is my favorite game series. I've gone back to it probably three times.
