The reason that people are probably reacting to homosexuality like that is that's how Japanese culture is, as seen in the Viceland's show Gaycation episode in Japan.

There are a lot of mobile games that would work great for this format: Device 6, The Room, A Dark Room, Year Walk (haven't played, but heard good things), and maybe Monument Valley, though that's quite a bit lighter on narrative.

I would definitely suggest playing Narcissu. Amazing and beautiful story.

Another suggestion would be Higurashi. I love this franchise. It has tons of jokes and hilarious sections, but every game has a sudden turnaround and becomes chilling. It has a brilliant plot for those who figure it out.

I don't know if it's been suggested before for the Game Club, but my favorite visual novel of all time is Amnesia: Memories. I really like how hard it can be to get all the endings. It's a little sappy sometimes, but I like it so much more than any other one I've played.

Her Story! I played it and it's a good game. I can't wait for next week's game club. Btw, make your own deductions on what the story is, don't google what actually happened. You won't get the right answer from there.

Hope you guys can play 80 Days for Game Club sometime. You play as the valet of an English gentleman, in a steampunk version of 1872, who has wagered he can circumnavigate the world in just eighty days and have to manage their whole trip around the globe. Found the game quite interesting and would like to hear your opinions on it.

They could try visual novels with game play elements like Aselia the Eternal and Seinarukana, which are about 30-50 long games, though they aren't out on steam yet, but should by the next gameclub. There is also Yumina the Ethereal if they want gameplay and sex scenes.

If they want something suspenseful, they should try Higurashi which is on steam, or if they are willing to english patch things, Umineko and Rose Gun Days are great too, their patch (Witch Hunt) alsohas the blessing of the author.

This game caters to a niche audience ... And I was lucky enough to be a part of it ^^

As for Visual Novel suggestions to change Ryan's mind about them, I feel most people have covered to obvious ones like Steins Gate, Clanned, Danganronpa, etc.
So I'll suggest something to undoubtedly doom him if it ever comes out in english.

    Uma Musume!

(Okay, so probably never going to get an English release, I know...

As much as I'd love for them to play a great Visual Novel I can't really think of any that they'd all agree on. Fate/stay night is the closest i can think but there's also huge walls of text that fill the screen in that VN frequently because it's a super old VN. again I'd love to see it but i'm doubting it would happen

I'd like to see these guys play The Banner Saga. With the sequel soon to be released I'd like to know what they think of it. I know turn-based strategy isn't for everyone but they seem to enjoy branching options and I think Gus and Ryan would appreciate the tactics since they enjoy X-Com

please play danganronpa. it'll wash the taste of all the other visual novels out of your mouth. Even Ryan will like it.

Id like to see them play Fate Stay Night. At the very least give them a Vis Novel that pretty much everyone agrees is very good.

I think that Game Club should be fortnightly rather than monthly. It's just so long between episodes now that it's over too quickly.

Another thing is that it doesn't seem as though they are making use of the month. This episode implied strongly that few if anyone actually got to the end of the game or didn't start playing until a few days beforehand. This wouldn't bother me as much if they didn't cite the extra time to finish games as a major reason for the monthly release.

I can appreciate that there is only so much time and you don't want every episode of The Patch to be "What have you been playing this week?", "Game Club game...", but I think with a fortnightly release you get the extra time to play, cover more games and I get to watch these great discussions more often.

I bought this game as my first time trying to experience the visual novel genre. This story made little sense. The whole primes of the game was admirable, at best. I don't know if it was a direct translation, but it felt like every panel at the school with the ghosts had the word "roof" in it. Like they were beating this shit out you with the game title. I get it. Ghosts are on the roof. Knock it the hell off

There are much better VNs out there. I would recommend Clannad or IF My Heart Had Wings(If you get that one from Steam, look into the patch to add in the removed scenes and dialogue).

I can understand why they don't like VNs, Though i wonder if Ryan would like the Fate/stay night VN, seeing as it became an anime... multiple times.

Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc is a really good example of a visual novel done right in my opinion. While linear, it's a story that actually works and is really good. Plus it has some really cool gameplay in it. I would totally recommend it for game club.

    ***EDIT***

Forgot to add it's available on steam now, not just the PS VITA.

How many times are they going to play a romance visual novel before they get the hint? Their complaints are mostly the same every time. Lots of clicking and not much else. I know it is random to an extent which game they play, but Meg put it in right? They can play whatever they want, it’s their show, but if they have to play a visual novel then wouldn’t it behoove them to play a more action oriented one? I have been reading Fate/Stay Night and that seems more up their alley (even though it is a pain in the ass to find and the world building is massive). I am sure there are others that are easier to find (I am not really into visual novels).

    • Majere616

Seriously, if they don't like playing visual novels they should just stop playing them instead of repeatedly playing them and then complaining about the defining characteristics of the genre.

So this is releasing at a different time from the patch now? Just watched The Patch on YouTube and this isn't even up for sponsors?
