Ori and the Blind Forest came out of nowhere and blew me away. The art style is incredible, platforming was on-point, the story was emotionally-grabbing, and it's the one game that has compelled me to buy the soundtrack since Halo 2. Man, that music is great

I just want to say I'm a huge Halo and Star Wars nerd and I loved Halo 5 and Battlefront 3, but Tales from the Borderlands was DEFINITELY my favorite game this year and I'm not even a big Borderlands fan.

    Suggestion: Osu!
It's kind of a new take on rythm based games, that might be the ultimate easy to learn hard to master game.

    Suggestion: Evoland 2

It's a game that, as it progresses, progresses through different genres and stages in gaming history, from 8-bit RPG to Diablo style gameplay to RTS games. The first and second game aren't connected by story at all.

Oh, this feels really weird, how they laugh at "noise rock".

It's a real, pretty interesting genre, the most famous example of which in the US is probably Sonic Youth.

I don't know much about the game, but in terms of Japanese noise rock groups, Boris is a good one to listen to.

why? because you play a cat girl who is a bounty hunter, also it's a platformer.

My indie game of the year has got to be Undertale.

Thankfully, I played it way before the fandom started to pop up, so I was able to ignore all of the spoilers, and enjoy what was probably one of the freshest experiences I've ever had.

My second place would be Mibibli's Quest, which is old, but it was just recently Greenlitted! You guys have got to put that game in the cylinder when it officially releases on Steam... just don't let Gus get anywhere close to it, please.

The Clannad VN released in English on Steam back in November, and it would be a great game for Game Club.

I want them to play it since I was in the kickstarter (or was it indigogo?). But I can see it being too long for a week of play like most VN games. But that or Steins Gate would be interesting if they had more than a week.
I think they need a separate selection for when they have more than a week between Game Clubs that's filled with all VN games.
Something like 9 doors 9 hours 9 people or Virtue's Last Reward might work well for a single week though.

Holy shit, someone else who knows what Clannad is! I was super excited that it came out since I had the old school full voice version that I had to play on a clunky Windows XP and didn't get to play it on my regular laptop. But I now I use a Mac and Clannad can only be played on Windows....
