I wasn't a fan of the gameplay in this one, so I played a little but never finished it. I can definitely see the appeal, though.

OH SHIT! The combat in this game is a variant on Grandia's Action Gauge. That's kinda interesting, and nice to see it branch out to more games.

I'm finding that my tastes differ from the patch crew. Personally the rhyming way of speaking was my favorite thing about Child of LIght, it made the whole game feel like a childrens story being told in a game which was great. The only drawback to it that I found was I couldn't stop trying to rhyme my own sentences afterwards...

I agree, I liked the whole rhyming thing, usually in games like these the story is kind of overwhelming and confusing. This game's story was delivered in a very slow paced and chill way and I think the rhyming had a lot to do with it. Plus it gave me a reason to read and actually care about the story, because in other games I just skip through, it helped having a different type of text (though I think it would be a lot better if it was voice acted)

I like that the firefly is the only one that talks normally in the part i'm at. I got the game free on xbox live

Also the point of her changing ages due to Stars/Moon was to convey a sense of Aurora growing up, the little girl lost and confused at the beginning into a rightful queen of an entire kingdom by the end of the game. I dunno, i just thought the symbolism was obvious

Aurora with major offence oculi reaps every single enemy in the game, It sadly trivialised everything but it FEELS SO GOOD TO ANNIHILATE EVERYTHING.

Here are a few games I would recommended:
    Alice: Madness Returns
    Dandelion:Wishes Brought to you
Nameless: The one you must recall
    Shikkoku no Sharnoth
    To the Moon
    Life is Strange

These are games I've played and totally recommend!

I loved the game and actually rather enjoyed the rhyming. I also had a blast with the combat system, though I actually didn't even realize you could switch Aurora out till late in the game and even then I still never swapped anyone with her. Something you guys didn't really bring up was the music, which was fantastic and really added to the game for me.

I did a playtest for this game for Ubisoft here in Montreal before it was released and I was addicted instantly. It's so beautiful, and plays well! I bought it as soon as it was released on 360. The puzzles are well-designed and the combat is fun! I recommend it to everyone!

    -Hand of Fate (steam)

Another couple of suggestions but you'd have to do them in order (so I guess add one to the mix and the second after the first has been played?)
    - Narcissu 1st
    - Narcissu 2nd
You really do have to play them in order and I promise that, despite them being Japanese and VNs, there is no sex (or gore), though I wouldn't warrent that they are necessarily child friendly (depending to your point of view).

    -Elegy For A Dead World
    -This War of Mine
-The Cave (That's sorta less depressing if you play it right, but also it would appeal to Ryan's on stage character I think.)

I was very disappointed in there review they didn't get most of the story or understand most of so the story so there review wasn't very accurate also they are but most of all I hate that they didn't like the ryming I highly enjoyed it. It added a very comical appeal or a actual good potec feel

I was disappointed that you guys never mentioned the story that was going on in the background of the game. If you collect certain notes in the world, the first half are poetry about the world, but the second half instead of titles have question marks and scribbles and are entirely about someone from modern time going into Lemuria in search of someone, and in one of the last messages talks about being followed by men with guns. So sad that no one even mentioned it or saw it, but oh well, can't get everything I suppose.

Anyway, if you're looking for games try The Fall and This War of Mine.

Still gonna throw in Mass Effect trilogy as a suggestion. Although you can really pick any of them, I guess the first one would give the best impression.

Once you found a rhythm to reading it, it's really entertaining.

I'd recommend Deemo as a game worth playing.

I'd like to see Broken Age, now that Act 2 is out. I'd wait until it's updated though, at the moment there's a nasty glitch that can render your save unplayable.... found out first-hand :'(

I liked this game a lot. The rhyming didn't really bother me at all...actually, the girl that didn't rhyme annoyed me. I know it was for humorous purposes, but I was not amused.
Does anyone know about the purpose of the locked doors? Many of the doors are locked in the towns; is this possible DLC?

(One last note: I'm not sure, but I thought sponsors didn't get ads. I had a midroll ad about doggie breath or something...I don't know if you can choose ads or anything, but the dog drinking/licking/eating sounds were super-gross in my headset. Ugh...it gave me the jibbilies. I'd recommend getting rid of that one if you can actually choose)

Continuing my trend of loving stuff that seems to be universally hated by everyone else (I actually like the Super Mario Brother's Movie) I myself actually loved their addition of the rhyming in the dialogue.

This entire game felt like an old children's book come to life, and the rhyming, while not Dr Suess, just fits far too well with the story for me to see any wrong in it! The words used to fit for the oddness may be odd and archaic, I understood them and felt they added just that much more on top of it all.

Child of Light is one of my favourite games! My strategy is to deck out each character with its own oculi combo of strengths and defenses rather than continually reequip two characters. This really helps maintain a party skill level rather than two very strong characters and a bunch of weak ones. That way, you always have someone prepared to fight each type of monster, and if someone is injured you can rotate party members and still have good fighters.

Since you've already played one of my favourite games, you might as well play the other one: OFF
Only play if you're prepared for heart break
OFF is a story-rich RPG puzzle game for PC. It's "open world" in the same sense that Child of Light is in that you can explore any part of the world you've unlocked at any time. It's an indie game with a strong fan base and has multiple endings (all with various levels of sadness). OFF isn't on Steam but can instead be downloaded for free here. I hope you guys'll check it out!
