This is a really old video, but to anyone who is just now watching it... don't. Turn back now while you still have the chance.

I never, ever wanted to play that game, and this video just reaffirmed my suspicions. Just, the whole idea behind it seems really wrong to me...

I mean, I'm all for "everybody needs love", but a dating game based SOLELY around people with various handicaps as a major personality point for each character? Come on now, people are more than their disabilities...

@daft_inquisitor: They describe their personalities in this video ("moody", "friendly", "spunky"). Obviously the game is not solely about their disabilities.

Gotta say, Usually I agree with Ryan on his opinion about games. But not this time. KS is a wonderful VN, if not one of the best and I highly recommend it. You will feel feels that you didn't know you could feel. You will cry like you haven't cried in ages. Also, Lilly is Best Girl!

Not gonna lie, very upset about how this review was handled. I understand the frustration with the walls of text and whatnot, but this is a visual novel, they really should've expected this stuff.

This game is one of very few examples of disabilities portrayed well in a game. All the disabilities of each girl are handled with tact and grace, which is especially surprising considering this game came from 4chan.

Another problem I have is that none of the group actually finished the game, or even one of the paths. One of them even said that it takes way too long to get to the sexual stuff. That bothers me, because that is not what Katawa Shoujo is about at all. The game focuses much more on actual romance than doing the nasty, and it's bullshit that none of the people here couldn't set aside their typical mindset towards these kinds of games for long enough to see Katawa Shoujo for what it actually is.

All in all, heavily disappointed in how RT handled this one. Not impressed at all, and not likely to watch more of this series if none of the reviewers are willing to put genre stereotypes aside.

I believe that RoosterTeeth gives good, true reviews to games.
However, I cannot agree with their decision about Katawa Shoujo, only partly due to the mispronunciations.
Katawa Shoujo is a game about emotions, but it takes time, time that pays off when you triumphantly yell a happy ending or cry at a sad one. It is not perverted and is tactful about disabilities.
I loved this game and all my friends loved this game, I recommend it if you haven't played it. You can also disable any content you don't want.
Finally, Katawa Shoujo is a Visual Novel, and they are not treating it as one; you need to read all the way to the end to judge it. Gus, Ashley and Ryan are sitting down, playing a couple hours and assuming they have the full experience.

Very Japan premise on this one.

I understand the time restraints of they have but I hoped they would have at least finished the visual novel before judging it so harshly like "it's time you will never get back." Then again, this is a game club; a visual novel is hardly a game and I shouldn't have expected them to sit through something that long with no interaction. Thank you for trying.

yo, this is pretty old. but just watched it.
About the problem Meg had with skipping. Most of these games, Visual Novels, tend to prevent skip unless you've already been through the scene. So to skip every scene would require you to have completed every scene. Naturally, you can still just skip the scene's u HAVE seen, then grind through the one's you havn't.

I love Katawa Shoujo, really enjoyed the store that was there with each girl. Oddly one of the few games that I have tried to complete in it's fullest. A little disappointed that Meg, Ryan and Gus reviewed it since they really aren't into anime/manga/etc that it's tied closely with. But it was still funny to see them discuss it.

I played it and I would have to say Meg saying that Hanako would take a quite a bit is true in some sense but it is really rewarding, I recommend that you do play that Hanako path because it is a really touching experience. Also I would have to agree with Luke that's under me that Kerry or some others would have been a better choice to do this review

also first visual novel ive played and for a game from 4chan its suprisingly tactful about disabilities and safe for work, its not creepy like 90% of visual novels are.... very >.> weird in that way anime is sometimes and pervy, katawa shoujo is NOT that

only NSFW thing in katawa shoujo are the short (luckily) akward sex scenes you can set to skip in the settings anyway, so safe for teens if you have that setting on

i love katawa shoujo, just ignore ryan you just have to treat it as a choose your own adventure with cute art and romance, they actually treat the subject of disabilities with tact and some of the story paths can get pretty deep

its adorable and sad and though there are some SUPER akward sex scenes in there you can go into settings to skip them and its a better game without them

its free and its more like reading a story with a few choices, though ryan complains that the choices are spread out a lot of visual novels HAVE NO CHOICES its just an visual novel LIKE THE NAME FOR THE GENRE really though thats a hard thing to miss.....the name of the genre is visual novel and thats pretty much what they are, the fact the katawa shoujo has any choices at all is a huge plus, and it does actually have a lot of them like the flowchart shows

and the skip function only skips stuff you have already played through so if you want to do another playthrough and choose different paths you dont have to play parts youve already played

something i wish more games had, not only visual novels but lots of rpgs should just let you skip all cutscenes and dialog youve already seen on a second or third playthrough when trying to get all the story arcs

this game probably would have been better reviewed by kerry and miles and some of the younger roosterteethians, pretty much anyone who has persona or pokemon in the office should have been there for this game

i actually quite liked this visual novel considerign it was the first i played. Misha is not a route or atleast wa not when i played. if you go the shizune route you take a sign language class. The heartattack basicly kick started your arythmia which is why you have to take it easy or die and the death route in basicly suicide cause you get drunk with the crazy blind guy who is your neighbour and he comes onto you and you fall of the roof haha. Not everyones cuppa tea and the rin route is super long and the most abstract but i still like it :D
