Next week we're going to try a new segment that's kind of goofy called Pitch a Game. We're going to randomly select a couple elements and each try pitching game ideas that includes those elements.

If you want to throw in an element try:

      * A Character (or more general character trope)

      * Setting and/or time period

      * Random plot element

      * Villain

    • Welcome to Glitch Please

      Ashley The Know

At the end of last year we decided to sunset our gaming podcast, The Patch. It wasn't an easy decision because it's a podcast Rooster Teeth has been doing for years and we all enjoyed the opportunity to sit down and nerd out about games on a weekly basis, but it had become increasingly clear to us that it had lost its way a bit.

To some degree, that was difficult because when it started the premise was pretty simple: everyone says we talk about game on the RT Podcast too much so let's make a podcast just to talk about games. From there it kind of took on a life of its own and evolved, but was always pretty freeform. While that meant we could do what we wanted with it for the most part, it also meant there wasn't a structure to keep it consistent and it meandered into three or four different formats over the nearly 200 episodes of its run.

That's not great for a show or its audience. So we decided to make the hard call and start over.

And that's how Glitch Please was born. We want to take the best of The Patch but fit it into a structure that's more stable and consistent in how it operates. And also, if I'm being 100% honest, I would kill every show in the world if it meant it would come back with a set designed by Marcus LaPorte.

      sTgkvDO.png

Glitch Please should look familiar in a lot of ways. @gus, @Ryan, and myself will still be talking about games every week. This first episode is just us because we're still tightening up the details, but we'll have guests from Rooster Teeth and beyond as well.

What's changed is that we're thinking of our conversation in terms of segments and topics that fit together. Some of the segments will cycle from week to week, but this way it's planned out in advance and we won't fall into the gravity well of any one thing *cough*VR*cough* for months at a time. Or, even if we do discuss it pretty frequently, it won't be the ONLY thing we have time for... and we'll have timestamps so you can skip it.

Oh, and we're killing the hour time limit in favor of discussing things as long as we feel they need to be discussed. That might mean we have some long episodes around e3, and some short ones around game droughts, and hopefully you guys are cool with that variance because we think it will be better for the content.

This is still the pilot phase. It's all subject to change if some of our theories don't pan out, so stick with us. We want your feedback to see what's working, what can be further improved, what you'd like to see... basically, everything. We want to make a show that we love to do and that you love to watch.

Comments on individual episodes is awesome, but so is show-wide feedback. To facilitate that I've created a new group here on the site to collect thoughts, ideas, comments/questions for a mailbag, fan art we can show off, and as many nudes of Gus as the internet can handle.

    • Neko Atsume Movie Gets a Trailer

      Ashley The Know

Neko Atsume has been a mobile gaming phenomenon... if you choose to classify it as a proper game, that is. It launched in 2014 and grew to such rousing heights that it even got the stamp of approval from @gus Sorola. So what's a successful game about feeding stray cats to do? Become a movie, of course!

Since that's kind of a thin premise for a film (not that it's stopping the emoji movie), the movie's narrative will focus on a depressed writer suffering writer's block, who becomes even more depressed when cats won't stick around... until he leaves food out for them.

In case you're still wondering how this will bear up in cinematic form, there's now a teaser trailer!

In the sequel a concerned neighbor probably comes by and finds a dead writer who's been gnawed on by a bunch of cats. Then it becomes a murder mystery about pigeons, because why not? It worked for Hatoful Boyfriend.

    • Amazon Greenlights Series Based on Good Omens

      Ashley The Know

Fans of Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett will be familiar with their collaborative novel, Good Omens, based on the premise: What if an infant Anti-christ got switched with a normal kid?

The book was published in 1990 by the two authors and features the antics of the angel Aziraphale and the demon Crowley, who've grown comfortable and don't really want the world to end, as well as the Four Horsepersons of the Apocalypse. Toss in a son of Satan who's growing up with the wrong family, in the wrong village, his best friends, and an ability to reshape reality based, and you're in for a lot of good fun.

      dYkhfCb.png

Amazon agrees, and has greenlit a series of six episodes based on the work for release in 2018. Gaiman adapted the book for the screen and will serve as showrunner on the project. Of the series, he said:

"Almost 30 years ago, Terry Pratchett and I wrote the funniest novel we could about the end of the world, populated with angels and demons… Three decades later, it’s going to make it to the screen. I can’t think of anyone we’d rather make it with than BBC Studios, and I just wish Sir Terry were alive to see it."

Terry Pratchett, co-author on the original novel, passed away in 2015 following a battle with Alzheimer's disease.

The show is being co-produced with Narrativia, the production company founded in 2012 by Pratchett with his daughter, Rhianna Pratchett, who recently announced she was stepping away from writing on the Tomb Raider videogame franchise.

      avKqTP3.jpg

Previous attempts at adapting Good Omens for the screen have been made. Notably, Terry Gilliam was working on a movie in 2002, with Johnny Depp and Robin Williams rumored to be attached for the roles of Crowley and Aziraphale, respectively, but it stalled in the funding phase.

On Thursday, Nintendo will officially reveal (again? more?) the Nintendo Switch. The company is expected to share the new console's tech specs, launch lineup of games, price, date(s), and other details during the event.

So, what do you say we take this relationship to the next level and watch the event together?

The Know/Rooster Teeth will livestream Nintendo's broadcast along with our own commentary, highlighting comments from the community (use #knowswitch on Twitter!), and probably drinking. It's late at night. That makes drinking practically a requirement. Apologies in advance to all the sober people dealing with mornings on the other side of the world.

    • First Look at Mute

      Ashley The Know

Since he finished work on the Warcraft movie, Moon director Duncan Jones has been working on a Sci-Fi Noir Thriller called Mute that brings Alexander Skarsgård (True Blood), Paul Rudd (Ant-Man), and Justin Theroux (Parks and Recreation) together on-screen (and it's also rumored to feature Moon's Sam Rockwell), and now we've got a first look at the movie's distinctly Blade Runner style visuals.

      eWRCFas.jpg

      DkLx1AS.jpg

      dyRPOxy.jpg

The film follows Leo (Skarsgård), a mute bartender who sets out to find his girlfriend when she goes missing in near-future Berlin. According to the official premise:

Set in the near-future, Leo (Alexander Skarsgård) is a bartender living in the pulsing city of Berlin.  Because of a childhood accident, Leo lost the ability to speak and the only good thing in his life is his beautiful girlfriend Naadirah (Seyneb Saleh). When she vanishes without a trace, Leo's search for her takes him deep into the city's seedy underbelly.  A pair of wise-cracking American surgeons (Paul Rudd and Justin Theroux) are the only recurring clue and Leo is forced to take on this teeming underworld in order to find his love.

The movie is due out later this year on streaming service Netflix.

    • Sterling K. Brown Joins Black Panther

      Ashley The Know

Black Panther is already shaping up to feature a star-studded cast, with Martin Freeman (The Hobbit, Sherlock), Forest Whitaker (Arrival, Rogue One), Michael B. Jordan (Creed), Lupita Nyong'o (12 Years a Slave, Star Wars: The Force Awakens), Chadwick Boseman (Captain America: Civil War, 42), Danai Gurira (The Walking Dead), Angela Bassett (Malcolm X, American Horror Story), Daniel Kaluuya (Sicario), Florence Kasumba (Captain America: Civil War), Letitia Wright (Urban Hymn), and Winston Duke (Person of Interest) already onboard, with Andy Serkis also rumored to be involved.

Now joining the lineup is People v. O.J. Simpson star Sterling K. Brown in the role of N'Jobu, a figure from protagonist T'Challa's (Chadwick Boseman) past.

      grN0hEY.png

Brown won an Emmy for his work on People v. O.J. Simpson, was nominated for SAG and NAACP awards, and is up for a Golden Globe this weekend. He currently stars in the TV series This Is Us, and has previously appeared in Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, Army Wives, Person of Interest, Supernatural, Starved, Third Watch, and dozens of other shows and movies.

Black Panther made his first appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Captain America: Civil War, and his standalone film is scheduled for release on February 16, 2018.

    • Buffy the Vampire Slayer Reboot: NO; Charmed Reboot: YES

      Ashley The Know

Apparently, if Full House can do it, any '90s show could be making a comeback. Two of the shows under scrutiny for similar returns are Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1997-2003) and Charmed (1998-2006), but we won't see both cult favorites return to TV.

Buffy actress Sarah Michelle Gellar shot down the idea that Buffy could make a comeback in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter:

I have always believed that what was so unique about the show was the use of horrors of those formative years. With high school and college as a backdrop, we were able to address racism, identity, bullying, guilt, death, first love and heartbreak using the demons as metaphors for the demons we all experience. I am not sure how that translates into adulthood, although I am sure it could. The burden of saving the world a lot always weighed heavily on her, so for her sake, I hope she is somewhere on a beautiful beach located far away from any Hellmouth.

It's worth noting that the show was created by Joss Whedon, who's lately been elbows-deep in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, though he did take time out to create a new adaptation of Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing. Most recently, for television, he created and executive produced Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. for Marvel. It's unknown whether he'd have the time to oversee a new era of Buffy, and whether the series would have the same appeal without him.

Gellar's response also approaches the revival concept as an ongoing story in the same universe with the same characters as the original series, similar to the recent Gilmore Girls Revival. An alternative would be to reboot the universe with a new cast.

...Which is the approach The CW appears to be taking with Charmed.

The network has ordered a pilot script for a new pseudo-prequel reimagining of the '90s series from the team behind Jane the Virgin, following a new cast, a new location in New England, and a new era of 1976.

It's unknown if there would be any connection to the original series, beyond a shared name for one of the 3 characters, Paige.

Tina: African American. Whip-smart, Tina is one dissertation (and one dissertation advisor) away from a PhD. She can be reserved, even standoffish, in uncomfortable situations, but she picks up on
everything and she’s definitely making quick, accurate judgments about you.
Paige: Caucasian Cheerful, curvy, wholesome and as all-American as the apple pie she can’t wait to serve to the husband she has yet to marry. Paige’s main goal in life is to marry a rich doctor and be a wife and mother.
Annie: Caucasian. Intense, smart, and quick to anger. She dresses neutrally, though she could give two s–ts if you like her outfit, so stop wondering what “neutral” means. But under that tough façade, well… there is a fragility. A person desperate to be loved, and love.

What are your thoughts on reviving your favorite past shows? Would you prefer a full reboot? Revival, Gilmore Girls style? Or would you prefer your favorite shows of the past stay in the past?

PS - If the Charmed casting team are Rooster Teeth fans, I'd make an excellent Charmed One. Just saying.

Watched the Try Hard podcast (that you were on):  I was excited for WonderWoman too... but the only parts of the WW trailer I enjoyed were the fight scenes. And in BvS the fight scenes of Batman fighting all those goons was good. The plot still fell through.

Do you think the trailer shows enough story aspect to be enjoyed outside the fight scenes?

This might be an issue I'm having, rather than the site, but it's been a while since I've seen a new The Know video here. The last one I can see is 'More games WORSE on Playstation 4 Pro', but I can see on the youtube channel there have been at least three videos posted after that. I don't even know if the scheduling or upload is something you deal with, but I figured I'd hit you up in case it was something that needed to be looked into.

      Thanks :)

Yeah the first time I noticed this was when Mica was rocking Black Cat on Always Open and they showed a clip of a Know video shot that day. It's not on the site, but it is on YouTube however. There have been a couple updates here and there that haven't shown up on The Know's Recent Updates. I brought it up on 'Is this Xbox Scorpio VR?', but have just been clicking over to YouTube to check on any I may have missed. Hope it gets resolved somehow.

Thanks for keeping us in the know, Ash!

Just a heads up, you missed out on the one of the other big names attached to the CSGO scandal. Josh Beaver also known as Twitch.tv/JoshOG is listed as the Secretary. A quick Reddit search shows he has deleted VODS where he was answering questions from angry followers until he went into Sub Only Mode and then offline shortly after. Josh was KNOWN for being on CSGOLotto all the time and making RIDICULOUS bets and winning a lot of the times.

The last name on the list is another COD YouTuber, while not as famous, he was making Gambling videos as well and constantly promoting the site. same as the others and deserves the same punishments.

Just listened to the Patch #125. Y'all talked about the Sci Fi clones/ teleporting. I'll check out Altered Carbon as soon as finish The Battle, Alter World Book 5.

One of my favorite properties to adjust this was Borderlands 2. The New U station says, "Greetings, clone of the recently deceased!" or "Hyperion suggests that you do not think about the fact that this is only a digital reconstruction of your original body, which died the first time you respawned. Do NOT think about this!" after a respawn. It was a heavy moment in such a tongue in cheek game the first time I heard those.

Keep up the good work. Cheers!

The New Destiny DLC seems oddly similar to extortion. "Hey we made more content for this game you seem to like a lot, if you buy it you get tons of neat stuff but if you don't we will take away some of what you already have". Compare to; "Hey this is a nice shop, sure would be bad if somebody came in and trashed the place, we do live in a bad neighborhood after all. You know for a price we could make sure that doesn't happen, or we could make sure that it does happen, your choice."

I just caught up on The Patch finally, and heard you guys were playing Crypt of the Necrodancer this week. I love this game, so I'm super excited to see you guys are playing it. I did want to give a word of advice, though, and I apologize if this has already been forwarded to you guys: definitely try it on the dance pad, but start out and learn the basics using a keyboard or controller. There's definitely a learning curve to the game just to get into the groove of it, and trying to climb that while using the dance pad can ruin the experience for you. Get your legs under you first (no pun intended), and once you get a handle on the mechanics of it move on to your dancing shoes smiley1.gif

Regardless, I hope you guys enjoy it at least half as much as I do!

Hi and welcome to the site! Unfortunately Rooster Teeth does not have a physical store front (you can find all their merchandise here on their online store. They do have booths/store products at conventions they attend however. As for tours, given the hectic nature of their production schedules, they do not offer tours of their studios.

All that being said, their convention, RTX, will be in early August this year where all the Cast and Crew will be there, along with a physical store of their products. Here is some information about the convention.

Hey, would it be possible for The Know to tone it down with the click-bait article titles? I might be alone in this but I actively dodge anything from buzzfeed and similar links from my friend and on other websites all the time because I feel that bad journalism needs to try to trick you into reading articles. I know that there are tons of books out there and studies showing that this type of advertising works, but I don't think that The Know needs to resort to every video being a question aimed at making a viewer think they are under attack. "Google vs Your Phone?!" ...really? If that is what The Know wants to be then that is okay. Not the end of the world. Just... I was hoping for journalism from people I trust without all the bullshit. Unfortunately the Know might not be able to survive without playing with the same rules as the top-10 articles which seem to spam facebook these days, I just hoped it would.

I have a book recommendation for you, since you seem to love books to an obsessive degree; like any self-respective reader should be. Try checking out the Mistborn series by Brandon Sanderson. Its a fantasy series that takes place in another universe, following the theme of "What happens if the hero of a story turned into a tyrant after saving the world?" The main character is a female badass that I think you might enjoy. A game is set to be released for it as well, coming out in the fall of next year.

Keeping with the Japanese game theme, what if you guys played Yandere Simulator? It's not exactly a full game right now, so I'm not sure if you guys would actually want to do that, but I just thought I'd suggest it if you were interested!

Also would you consider playing any Nintendo games, specifically Zelda games?

      Hey Ashley!

Sorry to put this in your personal comments but I didn't know where else to write it. I'd like to put forward a suggestion for what was my personal Game of the Year, Child of Light. I loved everything about this game from the superb visual style to the innovative battle mechanics to the absolutely beautiful soundtrack. I connected with this game on an emotional level unlike any other game I played this year. It rekindled that childhood-like imagination within me that made me want to explore and interact with this amazing world that I'd been put into in pure "Alice in Wonderland"esque style. Sure, some of the rhyming did feel like a bit of a stretch and the battles were too simple on lower difficulties; but I can look past those flaws because of the sheer amount of charm the game has and the joy that it brings me.

So whilst I know that you won't agree with this because you probably didn't play it or enjoy it as much as I did, but a game this good needs at least a mention in discussions for GOTY even if it doesn't get nominated. Although you'll probably never actually read this, at least I can say I tried. Love The Know, The Patch and pretty much everything you all produce and I hope you have a nice day :)

This is in reference to the latest and the next Patch. Probably should have mentioned that earlier.

I was listening to the patch and heard that you didn't know much about the Dragon Age history, I was actually the same way before I started the second game. The Dragon Age Keep has a video that plays that will show you the actions of the previous games, as well as allow you to make decisions about that worlds history. Just watch the video, changing things when you want, and you'll pretty much learn all you need to know; with few exceptions of course when it comes to the lore. Either way, hope you enjoy the game, it is a lot of fun; despite the glitches here and there.

Heard you mentioning the Litany of Fear from Dune on the CAH stream: incidentally, Jeph Jacques (the awesome dude who draws www.questionablecontent.net and www.alicegrove.com ) actually has the Litany as a tattoo. Dude has crammed so many Dune jokes into his comics.

Listening to The Patch, and I heard you talk about the button mashing.. .If I hadn't see this for myself, I would have logged it under the 'yeah right' mentality. However one of my friends is a button masher on almost any game.. On Spider-Man 2, he somehow started to webswing, shit a web ball and did a web zip past the web ball and had it pass him as he landed... How he did that, I have never found out... and he was like, 'How'd I do that.' Your story about not being able to replicate moves reminded me of that moment.

The Know It All is my new favourite thing. I love being able to play one video to get snippets of everything, and then i can pick and choose the topics i want to watch the full video on. Thanks for linking to all of the full videos, makes my life so much easier. You and Meg are awesome! smiley12.gif

Any plans to talk about the massive Kotaku controversy and how it relates to gaming journalism?

Thought I'd mention that the link to The Know at the top of the page doesn't show up on the Store or RTX sites the way it does on RT and AH. Not sure if this is intentional, I just thought I'd tell you.

Just to say on the last patch I got yo back over the whole jif gif thing, if there's one constant with internet comments it's that there's always people trying to prove others wrong and just being wrong

I don't mean to be a dick, but I think the Patch #64 has an incorrect annotation on the home page of the website, it says, "Gus makes his return on The Patch #63." I may have misunderstood it, and if so sorry for the inconvenience.

Why aren't you guys at the know covering the story about Watch_Dogs for the PC being limited by Ubisoft?
I'd really like to see you write a story about it!
